I had a psychotic episode in my early twenties and it's terrifying as phuk even when you know it's not real.

The scariest part of losing my mind was losing the logical part of my brain. Deep down I knew it was unlikely that there was a bear in my front room, when you totally lose your mind the logic goes and at that time I couldn't think someone must of come into my house with a bear and not woke the dog up and.....bla bla bla. Just knew I was going to die. shit gets real crazy when you cannot reason that the invisible car is not real. Hallucinations are ok if you know there hallucinations, if you dont they are terrifying

I totally agree as well. See had Master’s degree is social work. But was having trouble getting a job as well as unable to keep the job she had. 🚩 A lot of us go into the field of social work or psychology because we can empathize/relate on some level. That’s what makes us quite good at what we do. My heart does go out to her and her family for their loss. Very possible she was struggling with undiagnosed mental illness and/or started to “self-medicate” due to her being unaware/resistant of what was happening to herself. Her loved ones may have saw signs, but were in denial. Mental illness still carries such a stigma.

But she is also a millennial who graduated into a crashed economy and severe cutbacks in government-sponsored programs. If she was a web developer unable to keep a job I would agree more. But then there may be more openings for social workers than I’m aware of. We certainly need more, but my understanding was that there often just aren’t the resources to pay them. Would love to be corrected if I’m wrong.

hmm i doubt this assesment would hold true in the ever more precarious job markets of the last 20 years.

I was wondering about that laugh myself,I thought it sounded almost contemptuous,I think she must've been in a heightened state of fear and paranoia when she left her apartment,although I'm inclined to believe that she may have perished from hypothermia,due to the freezing night temperatures,and lack of warm clothing,terribly sad story.

That’s what I said, I think I’m pretty sane and I talk to my dogs all the time. I can tell my dog casually to “go to bed,” or “go lay down.” Just like I would tell a human and he will do what I say. Lol

It could easily have been the roommate watching TV or a video on her phone or something. Or even just “holy cow my crazy roommate called the cops!” Instead of “hey, you need help.” Sad sigh.

I know a guy diagnosed in his 40's. No one had seen any sign of it till about 3 years prior....

My ex had a psychotic break when he was 35. I knew him since he was 18, he had no history of mental illness at all. It is in his genes though as his mother is bipolar. He was able to hide it from everyone but me for 3 years, he just kept getting worse & refused treatment. He refused to see a Dr. but when I told a Dr. his symptoms he said it sounded like psychosis, which can mimic certain schizophrenic symptoms. He believed I called an organization on him & that me and all his family/friends were involved. He thought he was being followed everywhere he went, that there were cameras/microphones in the house etc. It was literally a nightmare. He started getting increasingly more manic, aggressive & violent. He started saying he was going to kill the neighbors because he thought they were the “headquarters”. I was so scared he was going to hurt or kill someone. I tried to get help from police but they didn’t do shit. Finally a few months ago he pulled a gun in my face threatening to kill me if I didn’t “give him names”, I managed to run to the neighbors, he came out shooting multiple times then banged on their door screaming & eventually left in his vehicle. Police finally arrested him about 45 minutes later. He was so not in reality that he didn’t even think police were there for him, he literally thought he’d done nothing wrong. I’m signing an affidavit for him to get treatment & medication because he’s extremely mentally ill & really needs help. He was not himself at all, it’s really cruel how mental illness can come out of nowhere & completely destroy someone and those close to them.

It can also be brought on by drugs. I know she didn't have any drugs in her system, but even using drugs in the past can cause these sorts of psychotic breaks years down the line.

I think this explanation sounds very plausible especially considering there didn't appear to be anything that obviously caused her death, as you might expect if she'd met with foul play. Her dog was back at the apartment though, I think Mike said, so does that mean she went out in the wet weather again, in those same clothes, later w/o her dog and then just took off? Seems a bit odd but anything's possible.

People can become extremely vulnerable during psychotic breaks. I am close to two separate people who were diagnosed schizophrenic, and both of them are lucky to still be alive. My friend was Rped, beaten and had tens of thousands of dollars swindled from her online. This is 100% due to the sad reality that people with schizophrenia will lose all trust for loved ones while suddenly deciding that they have deep connections with complete strangers because “both of them like music” or something trivial like that. I’ve got a long list to take care of. I just need to trick her into giving me the password for her instagram account.

The only reason I would say otherwise is because we heard laughing in the clip - but I guess that could be a TV show?

@@TangibleGoods it could be people outside the building.. you can hear people from inside a home u know xD anyway it is very sad.. i was unlucky enough to have a lot experience with people with mental disorders.. people to close to my heart..the roommate didnt have experience with it so she just tried to convince her that its not real.. thats what i was doing in the start.. :S in such cases you just need to go with it and keep an eye on them untill it comes back to normal.. if it comes back to normal

My son is 22 and we only found out he was BiPolar 2 years ago. It is a Miracle he is alive because of things that happened during times he went off his meds, which he hates. As a parent it is terrifying.

The average onset of symptoms is late 20's to early 30's for women, and anyone who has dealt or worked with people that suffer from it, the change in someone's mental state can happen in minutes. Everything in the 9/11 call points to her having a psychotic break, and if her roommate is still there with her, I don't doubt that she finally got fed up with her roomie acting nutso and decided to just wash her hands of it.

I know this comment is 3 months old, but I wanted to say I experienced the same with my mother. She never took medication and wouldn't acknowledge that she had a problem because everything was just so real to her. She was incredibly offended when anyone even suggested she seek help. It was an incredibly difficult time until she passed...listening to Kayelyn really triggered some of those horrible memories.

I’m a nurse and I’ve seen this exact thing play out over and over it was a schizophrenic break the initial episode can be the most terrifying many people die from their first break in these exact circumstances walking miles in snow, running into traffic etc

Imagine realizing you are suffering the early stages, knowing your brain is breaking, and nobody will help. That is up there with scary.

I had an occurrence like that. It was terrifying but I was lucid enough to know something was very wrong. It actually did feel as though my brain was breaking. It lasted over a week, that's all I could recall anyway. It sounds ridiculous but I kept feeling as though someone was closely following me... closer than following actually. Kind of like a monkey on my back, literally. It was everywhere and it kept telling me how to kill myself. Every object I passed, even a spoon, this figure would tell me I should pick it up and how to kill myself with it. I couldn't even pass by a napkin, it was so disturbing but I knew it wasn't real. I tried staying in my room and not talking to anyone in my house but it didn't help. I finally ended up telling my husband what was going on while breaking down in tears. I thought I'd be locked up in the asylum till it closed it's doors & left me behind. It was beyond bizarre there's no words to describe the horror I felt. I didn't get the best help either because I still don't know what happened. I was just given meds and the dr raised an eyebrow. That's it. I'm ok now, it hasn't happened again. I don't wish it on anyone.

Yeah, it becomes really dramatic in a desert environment. A crick can become a fast flowing river very quickly. The Jordan river gets very narrow in places and if the water raises up fast enough those areas can flow very fast. If the conditions were right she could have floated through most of those spots on the river.

So.. the roommate came walking out of the last place the she was seen to be in and no one questions this...? why was the roommate not looked into as a suspect? her roommate was the last one to see her at all… like there has to be more to her story.

Pretty much exactly what I was thinking on all points. Police can be extremely lazy. Frightened woman makes 911 call but nothing seems out of the ordinary and the next day she's out in the rain barefoot talking to her dog so of course she's crazy and probably just wandered off. No need for further action.

Hopefully the police ruled her out as a suspect but it seems the police and the media went off on a tangent that Louder was depressed or deranged. It still doesn't explain how she was found five miles away in a body of water connected to the creek behind the condo. But then again the dog was found in the condo so why would she be back at the creek? Anyway, a sad story that will probably never be definitively solved.

That happened to my friends son. Smart, successful. Went to work one day a different man. Very schizophrenic for a few years now.

Schizophrenia normally kicks in late teens early twenties. Often people have no symptoms before then, and usually improves in late 20s early 30s.

Had a close friend that had a mental “snap” he got up in the early morning grabbed a knife and attempted to go into my church. He’s never been the same, got diagnosed with schizophrenia, he was always a quiet guy but would never hurt anyone. He’s 24 now.

But what if they are!! no one believes you cause they all think it's psychosis then your murdered but made to look like suicide and every one blames mental health

Obviously if you’re delusional or paranoid you’ll speak to a psychiatrist and they can usually identify if it’s real or not. They can tell if you’re sane or not. I spoke to a psychiatrist for 2 hours when I was delusional and that’s when they assess the situation. But I totally understand what you mean.

@@paulginger8359 Exactly the issue: once people know you have any mental health problems nothing that comes out of your mouth is ever taken seriously again. Case in point: I have social anxiety disorder. I went to see a doctor for bronchitis - which I get every year - and he indirectly called me hysterical and told me I had asthma. It took me another two months of other doctors reading his notes to actually get someone to take a listen to my lungs.

I also have a theory that what if both things are true? Shoeless girl in the middle of an episode, taken advantage of by some river troll with a history of violence. Possibly not, but being that she was in such a vulnerable (and secluded) position during a rare rainstorm (no witnesses) doesn't seem all that implausible. Also...Utah. No offense Utah but you guys have a LOT of missing people.

She clearly wasn’t bothered by the other people in the house (if there was any) and maybe she was running away from her roommate the in the woods.. her roommate came down the same path she ran from.. her roommate was the last one to see her at all… like there has to be more to her story.

I used to be a dispatcher and had an almost identical experience. A woman called 911 claiming she came home and saw a person laying under her clothing in her bedroom. She would not listen to me to leave the house while police came, she decided to stay in the room and kept telling this person to leave. I couldn't hear any response from a second party in the room. Police arrive and I can hear them speaking while she was on the phone with me still. The officer checks the whole house as well as under the clothing, he states "ma'am, there's nobody here. The doors are locked." She keeps stating "don't you see the man!? He's right here! Look, he's looking right at me!" Nobody was in the apartment. She had mental health issues and called multiple times that day for the same problem. I haven't finished the video yet, but that 911 really brings back memories of my experience.

It's possible to do that, and it be a symptom of schizophrenia. If she thinks the dog is talking back, for instance. I talk to my cats, and my snake too. But I'm never in any doubt about them understanding what I'm saying.

Agreed. I lived with someone who was fine 3 weeks out of the month and would behave strangely the rest of the time. This girl I lived with had a prescription of Xanax, which she would finish a week into having it. She would hear voices, argue with this person, talk through the wall, set up cameras, write notes in the wall (which later she believed were this intruder), and always it was the same "lady". So yes, I agree. Signs of mental illness can come ang go in people, sometimes these people appearing completely healthy and other times sick.

I have to agree. That long 911 call at the beginning just screamed of it. Talking to a roommate who is all of a sudden not there, hearing strange and random voices, inability at times to answer basic questions about the reality around her.

If you really were in the medical field, I believe you should be able to write above a third grade level. You know, with punctuation and stuff...

Maybe Carole was gas-lighting her to sound insane. I don't know. But at least, they should have taken the idea into consideration. Or maybe they did, and she was ruled out. @@somita9849 I lived in the area when this happened. They always treated it like a missing persons case. The police pretty much refused to see it as anything else. It was heartbreaking.

My best guess is also sudden onset of schizophrenia, it sounds exactly like it. It can happen so fast. There is also people who hears voices but without mental illness, only I think in her case its not that, shes so scared and confused. I wish she could have realized whats going on and get help, she knew the symptoms as a social worker. Sadly its probably really hard to recognize it in yourself. Sad case.

If you live alone then you never get used to it, but one way to cope is be armed, be trained, and tell yourself it just the ice maker or the dishwasher.....after having cleared every room

Thank you for this comment. My ex husband had the same illness and he was so convinced that he was being followed. The only thing is that she may have been been attacked/ assaulted/killed while she was in the mentally ill state.

I had one too when i was 23 i thought there were cameras in the lights in my house. Never got on any medications it happened so suddenly. I thought my loved ones were saying things they weren't.

Yeah definitely sounds like psychosis... the roommate should've contacted her family when she noticed Kayelynn was hallucinating and acting strange.

@@helpis0ntheway I doubt it was psychosis. Also, there is absolutely no evidence in this video to prove that. That is what the authorities have lead you to believe because they have no idea how she died so that is what the narrator has suggested - however, it is incredibly naive of the authorities to suggest so. What they should have done is brought in outside help, officers and professionals trained in criminal psychology, body language, interrogation.

Unfortunately na LOT of people think we're crazy for talking to pets. I live alone with four cats. If I DIDN'T talk to them somedays I wouldn't talk at all.

I’m similarly going through something like that now with my boyfriend & children’s father. We’ve been together 20 years & until about 3 years ago he had never shown any signs of mental illness. 3 years ago he first started acting manic, paranoid & delusional believing there was a conspiracy against him and that he was being followed & our house & electric devices were hacked/bugged. This psychotic break happened while I was pregnant with our second child. In the years since he’s become increasingly worse & constantly accusing me of being involved with an organization behind his back. He’s starting to get dangerous & violent, he’s very erratic, irrational & frantic. I don’t know what to do anymore. His Mother filed paperwork to have him admitted on a psych hold but they told me it would only be 3 days. He’s very intelligent & good at acting normal in front of other people so I know he would be let out & would just come back here & be even angrier & do who knows what. He’s threatened me multiple times. He’s blaming me for everything & why “they” won’t leave him alone. I know he won’t take medication & get treatment unless forced. I’m at my wits end & scared, I don’t know what to do.

@@hollyroxy25 it's not an easy thing for anyone to go thru. If theres one thing I could suggest it would be for you to listen to yourself and do what your intuition is begging you to do. To leave someone you love isn't easy. For your sake and that of your children and your husband, would be for you to leave and file for sole custody in family court. Ask the judge to give him a mental health evaluation. Judge will question you as to why, and all you have to do is tell him. My ex was very clever and good at hiding it. That only lasted until she did the evaluation over the course of 3 days. Nobody can fool that. Find a counselor you like and talk to them. Idk how old your children are but if they are old enough to talk, they should also have alone time with the counselor. Push for sole custody even if it's temporary. Your main focus now needs to be you and your children. You will sink with him if you don't get away. Things will only get worsev if you don't take care of yourself. It's mentally taxing on a level that most have no idea unless they been there. My ex accused me of being crazy telling me to see a Dr because whatever I was claiming to see her do, she claimed didn't happen. I was being gaslit and at that time I knew nothing of it. I thought I was going crazy and actually sought out treatment only to have my Dr reassure me I wasn't. Leaving him doesn't mean you don't love him. It means you love him enough to let him go knowing you can love him no matter where you are in this world. Leaving might be hard to even think about let alone do. More often than not, doing the right thing for yourself and everyone around you takes tremendous courage. After I healed from all that I wanted to help others. Your physician may have suggestions. I'm so very sorry for your whole family. I know it's very hard, but please make your and your children's safety your top priority. Even if that means not taking care of your boyfriend right now, your and your kids' safety must come first. Trust your gut regarding that. Sending you my very best. She defo sounds paranoid but it doesn't automatically mean mental illness, healthy people can temporarily go psychotic as a response to a traumatic event, it's called brief reactive psychosis

@@Shininanigans Yes, same here. I've seen my schizophrenic relative behave the exact same way many times. It's truly tragic that emergency responders didn't take this woman for a mandatory psych hold after her phone calls (and after her roommate said she believed Kayelynn was delusional). She would still be alive today if they had. Sadly, first responders (police in particular) have shit training when it comes to mental health calls in the US.

Could there be a familial link? With that fact along with how she spoke about needing to take the signs seriously, like she had more deep insight than just saying something to say something. :/

Schizophrenia seems to be the logical explanation but foul play in Lams case and in this one is extremely probable and leads me to believe the culprits behind the killings manipulated them in one way or another

@@SubliminalMessagesTV they did a drug screening and she had a bunch of meds in her system. That plus a guy proved that getting up to the water tanks on the roof wouldnt be impossible and she had a history of liking rooftops. :( A really sad preventable death on the part of the hotel, they should have locked the tanks and roof access.

@Kitten Lyric Her being on prescription meds, and people were aware she had bi-polar, combined with her love of rooftops and how easy it was to get into this tanks (you could close the lids) makes this pretty open and shut for Lam's case. No evidence that someone else did it except conspiracy theories.

It’s not so much the stigma yet the inability to realize you need help and how to recognize the signs and symptoms. The stigma is real as well, not disagreeing with you completely.

the background laughing/conversation could have been the roommate on her phone. She could have even had her phone on speaker while getting ready in the morning. She might not have realized her roommate was on the phone with 911 and so was going about getting ready. Came out, heard her roommate freaking out and tried to calm her down. I highly doubt it was the first time she started freaking out and the roommate has probably dealt with her a number of times already. 🤷‍♀️

I could NEVER be a 911 operator! I just don't have the patience! It was frustrating (for me) the way she didn't seem to answer his questions directly...Like, he can't help unless he has all the answers...

I thought she may have had the TV on, but on her own phone also makes sense. Especially if she had said something like “it sounds like Kayelyn is freaking out” and the person on the phone is the one who said “go in there.” I was surprised there were no interviews or longer statements from the roommate.

also has no one ever had an animated conversation with themselves over something when no one was around. The amount of little moments people can look at out of context could diagnose anyone with a mental illness. I think sometimes that's just called being a person.

The dog stops and looks back in that direction, Kaelyen turns to it and shrugs, showing she's asking what it's doing, then she bends over to call it to her, then when it doesn't come she gestures back down the path as if she was asking the dog if it wanted to go back over there.

You can't affirm that because you weren't there. Nobody was. Nobody knows what really was happening.
