I've been listening to Metallica since the release of Ride the Lightning in the early 80s, so I've been listening to Enter Sandman since it's been released. I absolutely LOVE this version, even more so than the original. I love how it's not a straight cover like others have done on the Blacklist album but they made it their own, and then at the end, pay homage to the original. EPIC!!!!
This version was written and recorded in a week to meet the deadline to be included on the Metallica Blacklist album celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Black album. They did it as a collaboration with Alessia Cara, Canadian singer/songwriter, and use just a little of her vocals for the oh, oh, oh parts on a backing track when they do it live. Note that the white Explorer guitar that Dany is playing was a gift to her presented mid-show last summer by Lzzy Hale when they were touring together. Lzzy had help finding just the right guitar for Dany and the guitar techs set it up with her strings and such before Lzzy came out on stage during a set, knelt and presented the guitar to Dany. The Warning has kicked off their 2023 world tour and have a few more US dates this month before joining Muse again, this time in the UK. They played 4 shows with Muse in Mexico this past January did so well together that Muse invited them to open 4 shows in the UK and one in France for them. The Warning have announced multiple dates in Europe from Spain to Poland including some of the larger rock festivals. They are getting used to touring as they did over 100 shows across 5 countries last year in North and South America.
I find these young ladies very talented. I cut my musical chops in the sixties and seventies with bands, the younger generations call "classic 😁", like Zeppelin, AC/DC, ZZ Top, Queen, Pink Floyd, Heart and many, many others. I'm impressed! It's cool seeing Dany playing the guitar Lzzy Hale gave her when they toured together. A couple of others that are cool are "Money" and "Evolve".
Probably repeating others, but you need to work your way through their back catalogue, especially their Muse/Hysteria school gig cover, and the entirety of Queen of the Murder Scene live tracks at CDMX. These ladies breathe new life into modern music, taking it back a few steps and most perfectly so. The collective Warning energy is infectious. :D
If Metallica gave them the seal of approval and then the song appears as the first track on the Metallica Blacklist album, it's no wonder that there are many of us that are head over heels for it. Thanks for the great reaction, Becky! Don't stop here!
It's fair to say that the Blacklist saves the best for first, but the reason for the placement was surely that Enter Sandman was the first on the Black Album and "Alessia Cara and The Warning" was first in alphabetical order.
All the footage they've released from this Teatro Metropolitan concert is epic. The best of the lot, IMHO, is one I don't understand because I don't speak Spanish - Martirio
You are most certainly right - prefer this version hands down! Maybe we've heard the original too much but this was a masterpiece! The harmonizing, layered buildup toward the end was incredible. They just get better and better . . . their new song "More" . . . Wow!
They made this version for Alessia Cara (Canadian POP and R&B artist). (Watch official video). The Alessia version is on the METALICA'S 30TH ANIVERSARY BLACK LIST ALBUM. This was during the pandemic and limited time. Alessia in Canada and TW, in Mexico. TW put this together in 7 days. Wrote and produced. They will be in Europe from the end of May thru June 2023. Opening up for the Muse and other shows.
Great Reaction Becky! After listening to Metallica's version so many times, this version has breathed new life into this old song! I think it's better too! When they sent this version to Metallica to be put on their Blacklist Album, I can just imagine that when Metallica listened to it they got a big smile on their face. They are the kind of guys that appreciate when someone works hard on doing a cover of one of their songs and don't just play it the way the original was recorded.
At 68, I'm a life-long rocker who loves many genres of music. The Warning are right up there with the best in the business when it comes to killing their on stage performances. They are still incredibly young, yet so, so professional. This is a band that will be around for as long as they want to be. Their own, original material is amazing. The second TED Talk they did at the University of Nevada about six years ago is where they really showed us their inevitable path. "When I'm Alone" and "Survive" from that concert are worth a listen, along with a comparison to the versions of them at this 08/2022 Teatro Metropolitan CDMX concert. I haven't been this entertained by a rock band in this century. Fall down their rabbit hole of amazing songs and I think you'll be amazed. Lyrically, they write far beyond their years. Technically, as performers, they are scary good. Their songs, *More* and *Evolve,* performed on the MTV Video Music Awards Extended Stage, were recorded in ONE TAKE EACH. They were granted three takes for each, but just killed both of them on the first try. The MTV folks were blown away, just like most of the audience. *More* is a song about obsessive attraction, sung with a tasty bit of pop eye candy, but *Evolve* is an important statement of personal empowerment. Both are worth a listen. This band is exceptional.
They cannot only shred their instruments (and how they shred!), they also sing harmonies totally perfectly! They are best live! Thanks for your reaction!
Their original cover that went over very well was done by young girls who were getting good at their craft of becoming musicians. This new cover is being done by young ladies who have arrived and are now masters of their craft of being musicians. The Warning is making music a thing again in this household, we admire them and hope they continue on and receive all the accolades their wonderful music should bring them. Love your reviews/reactions, well done.
You're ready for TW's other "Live at Teatro Metropolitan CDMX" videos. The Warning. There is too much talent, virtuosity, beauty, charisma, power, creativity, the desire to be, kindness, support, inspiration, synergy, etc. All of it in a small 3 piece pack (apparently only 3, because behind it there is a great family support) which is very small... But with nuclear content!! And if this were a commodity, and it could be done, I would buy all the possible stock shares of the brand on the stock market. I would do the best business, with the greatest projection and that will give me the best dividends. It's a super safe bet!! TW have a huge list of songs of the best musical and artistic level, complete and rounded, both in their lyrics and in their instrumentation. In addition, they are 3 young women who are each one of the best as human beings and have the impetus to "devour" the world. You put this combination of pure talent and energy on stage and you get: The Warning An unmissable bet!! Your next reaction to TW should be: "Disciple - Live at Teatro Metropólitan CDMX" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xxkPTKyiSqY.html or… "Animosity Live at Teatro Metropólitan CDMX" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K8VPX-diRl4.html both are original songs like 40 others and more that they have created. And all with "TW" quality, which means: lirycs, instrumentation and performance with the highest quality exposure, because beyond the musicality emitted by the instruments, masterfully executed... Or the stupendous voices, each day more mature and better... Of the deep lyrics, inspired by his innate genius... And the paraphernalia of the "show", which achieves its goal... It's inescapable that this moves you from the depths of your emotions when you observe what the girls are doing in their performance. It's more than a pleasure to see how Pau (and her sisters) really enjoys what she does, which seems to be a game that amuses her so much that she gives herself up, contributing all her emotions and, at the same time, allows herself to be the receptacle of everything that can transmit what's happening to her. happening around you, transforming everything into a virtuous circle of unsurpassed quality. Well, surely only surmountable by themselves. And they've so much mastered what they're doing that they only have to give themselves completely, passionately (as Latinoamericans know how to do), to what they like to do best and most, in a way in which they've fun and fully enjoy it. For this and many more things TW will conquer the world of rock!! INEVITABLE Thank you for reacting to TW and your opinion. More TW, please!! Greetings from México.
What’s particularly amazing is that they make this song sound so good with 1 less guitar! Dani says she plays “ Lythm” guitar as she is actually playing both Lead and Rhythm. Similarly, Ale is not just playing the base line, but also picking up some Rhythm guitar duties. The Warning fans (Russia) put together a synced up side by side comparison of Metallica and The Warning both playing the Metallica song, Atlas Rise. They are almost indistinguishable, even though The Warning has no Rhythm guitar. The biggest difference is the voices ( Three women vs James Hetfield- different vibe)
I have to admit, I am not a Metallica fan, and I was sick of this song, until this version came along. A lullaby where Alessia very sweetly puts you to bed, then Dany rouses the troups, shares a little prayer, and the angel chorus comes to sing you to sleep, then Boom, the hammer drops. I think of this very much as the female version of the tale. So good. Delicate, powerful, soothing, strong, gentle, fierce-all at the same time. Thanks for doing this version. They are sooo good live. This entire show is amazing.
New sub. If you were impressed by this you have no idea what The Warning has in store for you. You should check out Dust To Dust live for Pau singing lead or on Disciple they share lead. Their new song MORE drops tomarrow the 12th. Same night I see them live coincidentally.
I've seen someone say recently that this is not a cover of Enter Sandman as much as it is an upgrade. If someone had told me before I knew who they were that three sisters from Mexico barely into their 20s would rewrite Metallica and perform THE defining version of this song I would have laugh myself silly. Now that I've been thoroughly Warned it doesn't surprise me in the least. These ladies have become my favorite band and that's quite a statement. Love everything they've done. Badass indeed!!! ❤❤❤
I love this version. Usually fun to see a band take a song and make it their own. I won't say I like one over the other. I've seen Metallica play it live several times. I going to have to say like equally. 6 songs from this show have been released so far. You've now done 2. the other 4 are Disciple, Choke, Animosity, And Martirio(one of the 2 Spanish language songs).
You are not alone, most of TWA (The Warning Army) prefer this version over Metallica's. Only 6 days until I see The Warning in New Orleans!! Will be my third time seeing them and I have videos of my first two times on my channel. 2023 is THE year for my favorite rock band and for my favorite vocalist, Angelina Jordan. I highly recommend checking out Angelina who, in my opinion, is the best singer story teller of my 64 years. Simply search on RU-vid "Angelina Jordan every song" and chose ANY of her 191 songs to be amazed.
The drummer is one of the main vocalists, indeed. Try these two live songs where she takes the lead: "Disciple" live: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Wo0odllVq8g.html The sisters trade off on lead vocal (including drummer, Pau) and harmonies "Dust to Dust": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TeIbG8nkOiU.html Pau the drummer frontlines the opening of the concept album with this tune.
Heh heh, I doubt anyone would get offended over preferring The Warning's version over Metallica's. I literally HATED that song after hearing it 50 thousand times in the year or 2 after the Black album came out. When they signed on for this with Alessia Cara, the official word from James Hetfield was, 'Take the songs from the Black Album and turn them upside down, inside out or backwards, but do them in your own style' ...and The Warning did exactly that! Incidentally, this is actually the first track on Metallica's 30th Anniversary Blacklist Album.😄👍
Great reaction. You should do a couple The Warning songs where the drummer sings lead vocals. "Black Holes, The End, Dust to Dust, 23, and The Revanant". She is fantastic too.
I said the same thing! I like this more than the original too! I'm afraid I'm gonna get struck by lightning! 😂😂😂 But really Im 63 and have heard the original probably thousands of times. So a fresh approach makes it new again. And they ended it paying homage to the original. Pure genious. Pure gold.
Another young lady for you to check out. Diana Ankudinova, born in Russia in may 2023. Start with her earlier songs. If you get a chance google her childhood story.
I am certainly no expert... But they are just 3. And to me it feels like a lot of backing track is happening... especially with guitars. But please correct me if I'm wrong.
The first one from when they were kids is a proper cover, like most other bands would try to do. Impressive enough, but this, this is different, a re-casting, a re-arrangement, into a different thing entirely. Like it's been rehabbed for modern audiences or something. Anyway, yeah, I won't say I love it more than the original, but equally, yeah, I'll go that far.
As someone who listened to this song back when it first came out, I've gotta say this is the best cover of it I've ever heard. Now to say which is better, this or the original, is like comparing apples and oranges... two totally different musical styles.
Don’t worry, EVERYONE likes this version better than the original. Even us ancient gen-Xers who love the original & bought the black album on its release date on something called a Compact Disc 🫣
