I reckon most of them probably haven't even touched a drink before in their lives. Raw recruits were probably only in their late teens early twenties. You can get wasted on a very small amount of booze if you don't consume it regularly.

@@dams6829 ha must be, the Royal Navy had rum rations up to the 1970s. Bascially you got given the equivilant to 3 shots of rum 95.5 proof / 54.6% ABV, Equivilant to about 4-5 shots of vodka a day. Senior sailors (petty officer and above) had it neat, whereas other ranks had it mixed with water.

It was 1967 a couple of days before Christmas myself and two jeep loads of my friends decided to steal a Christmas tree around Tudo st Saigon. we put the tree in the jeep and rushed back to our compound in Cholon being chased by Vietnamese police. we beat the police to the compound drove thru locked the gate and we had a Christmas tree. Our major really looked pissed for about two minutes and then he was gone.

I don’t know if eggnog is sold in Europe and Asia but if it isn’t then all I can say is I’m sorry for your loss ‘cause the stuff is amazing Also: of course Samuel becomes a Texan. I think you don't need to worry about europe. If you can trust wikipedia this stuff originates in europe. One dutchmen claimed that europeans who tried Abacate in what is now Brazil develloped it by subtituting avocados by eggs. (Avocados weren't sourceable in europe). And then theres the stuff Mexicans know as rompope which is said to be introduced to them by the spanish and made in Mexico since the 1700's.

Former Brit now living in Florida. I'd never had eggnog till my future husband introduced me to it, and even now it's basically limited to the Starbucks yearly offering. Just a shame it doesn't really come in a form that keeps well in postage or baggage.

I live right across the river from West Point and never knew this story! The cadets probably got the barrels of alcohol from my town, Cold Spring, as to my knowledge the ferry for cadets went (and still goes) straight across the river to here.

Thanx Indy great video. A year after high school we had a New Years party at our friends house . It was a 3 vacume cleaner party . We broke 3 machines cleaning up the aftermath early the next morning . Don's mother was maaad ! we always used the Hoover scale after that to rate the wildness of a party . " it was the 70s man " 5 years later we Did another one at another friends Parents house on New years which left a Large Crater in the frozen ground from a Midnight Fireworks event .

Eggnog riots! Who knew? I’ve been to a couple of Christmas parties where someone got drunk enough to fall down and break furniture, but that seems pretty tame compared to these West Point frolics.

Based on the video, stating that some of the ex-troublemakers managed to bounce back to high positions later illustrated the nature of social stratification at that time. Once a person managed to get into well-off circles, he was largely on safe ground. He might be down for a while but not out.

My wildest Christmas party? I'd say Dec. 24 1968 Osan AFB. C Fight and Tiger Flight 6314 Security Police SQ, had a small....soirée, to celebrate and that many of us were so SHORT we had to look up to see down. The exact details are somewhat hazy, I do recall Midshift Law Enforcement (the guys with the White Hats) the 1st Sgt, and Squadron CO putting in an appearance. A Good time was had by all.

God Jul - vi (Astrid, Indy och Spartacus) firade igår med familj, vänner och Svenskt julbord, men in Bayern - Indy och Spartacus lagade mat i åtta timmar - Jansons, köttbullar efter gammalt recept (Sparty's mormor), Julskinka, tre sorters sill, vegetariska alternativ, sakta rostad rost beaf (två timmar i ugnen), Västerbotten, knäcke, Julmust, tre sorter vin och mer. Idag gör Spartacus (som varje år) Amerikanskt Julbord - 10kg, Stuffed Turkey, tre sorters potatismos, sötpotatis, massor med brunsås, grönsaker, och selleri puree. Kort och gott - vi äter oss genom Julen ;-)

Secretely (as humanly possible and not by choice) suffering acute opiate withdrawal around a large portion of my friends and relatives, and trying to maintain as though everything was ordinary. Trust me, no amount of booze, and or Christmas cheer, eased the physical aspects. I did my best, and managed to pull it off, without making it shitty for everyone else. Though, I would have much preferred a drunken riot.
