The Winchesters Pilot Episode Review 

quite literraly EVERYTHING about their parents was explained enough you get to know who johns dad was who marrys dad was and how they met. I dont like this shown mainly since it wasnt needed at all and it kinda stomps over everything about dean and sams parents that was said in supernatural.

One of the unique features of SN was the ability not to get caught up in political correctness. In 2015 when liberals were passing the marriage act, most shows started making lead characters homosexual but SN did not. They had a random huntress as a lesbian appear in maybe 2 episodes and that was it. The idea of “being binary” is highly devisive. The time line the Winchesters portray makes it even more unlikely that a flagrant homosexual would be accepted by a Marine and 2 young women. This is a political move by the shows producers that will end up terminating the show early on.

I kind of had a feeling that they would make John know about monsters in this show before he married Mary instead of you know after Mary dies but I was surprised at the speed of the episode. John knew about monsters in 8 minutes of the show starting! My old theory was that by the first epsiode end he would see a monster and mary would save him and that would lead to a cliffhanger to episode 2 but I guess not. To be fair I liked the characters. I like the actor who plays John and that he behaved like Sam and Mary behaved like Dean. The other characters dont like them yet but they are ok.

I thought it was just okay too..some things pissed me off. I grew up on supernatural

I get the feeling this is going to end up involving time travel, alternate universe or memory erasure

I went into as its own show not connected with SPN and found it very boring; the weird-voiced demons are easy to defeat and the rubber suit monster was embarreassing and also looks easy to defeat. The chemistry lacking between the two leads. Dean's part makes no sense and doesn't add to the plot. I noped out after the pilot, by itself nothing about it grabs my attention. As a spinoff, nothing about it reminds me of the SPN I've loved for 15 years.

It's a pilot, with the usual pilot problems. And the timeline issues have already been started to be PART of the plot, rather than a plot hole (that should come through by ep 13). On a whole I liked the cast and filming and the overall vibe. It was cheesy and campy and fun while still having a serious edge. I'm curious to see how it goes.

The John hunting before Mary dies is an easy fix. Sometime in the near future when they are finally pregnant with Dean, Mary decides she wants them to quit hunting for good this time and have a normal life and they do until yellow eyes kills Mary and infects Sam with demon blood. And the rest is history and ties in well with the continuity of the Winchesters story line. I mean can you Imagine if we had to wait 3-4 seasons before we saw John do any type of action? It would be a boring show and there would be no need for the character at all. I for one like the vibe of the show and look forward to seeing how it progresses.

I hope kept watching because for me the mystery of what’s happening kept me watching. I hope you do more reviews on the Winchesters. I like hearing your opinions

My honest opinion is it's a bit Scooby doo ish. Even the van and friends.

As far as time frame I have 2 theories. 1) the period of time when Sam was at Stanford and dean was doing some solo hunts. 2) after Dean dies bet before Sam dies and deans driving around heaven The license plate on baby would be correct for both times

I liked it more than I thought would. I understand there is the John hunting issue but I am willing to wait until they explain it. I like the way the actor is portraying John. And the guy favors Jared. If Jensen and Daneel are involved I am hopeful. Hard to know how to fit in the new Men of Letters hangout though.

I think John and Mary will have a huge memory loss but Cupid had a hand in bringing the two back together in the end. Sometimes lost memories can be recovered after death.

Idk about judging it about everything not being explained yet it’s literally the beginning of the show 😂. Jensen already addressed that of course they are gonna make it make sense we just don’t know yet cause the show just came out lol idk just a weird thing to try to critique. Its not perfect tho it was ok for me I’ll still give it another look next week and continue unless I just don’t like it

My first thought was maybe Johns father somehow clued John in the past to know of things much sooner. Via time travel. ( unless the note was written before he time travel, can’t remember: if so, then perhaps some kind of time anomaly altered the course of events) I remember johns father traveled into the future/ current day. I mean it was mentioned that if they return for supernatural (and i think they will) that this might be the direction there going. I mean…I thought this could be a “reboot” considering it retcons Johns knowledge of the supernatural world. I had my concerns and not knowing how i feel them possibly rebooting supernatural but now I’m kinda interested. That is if they are going the route of “we threw John a bone and it changed the timeline thus changing the supernatural timeline” then. I think I’m down. Then again maybe it’ll be like some have suggested that John and marry get their memories whipped. I hope not personally, I prefer the idea of time travel shenanigans.

Traveling back and forth from Vancouver every week was hard on Jared and Jensen, who wanted to spend more time with their families. So, it makes sense that Jensen would want to film The Winchesters closer to home. Why John is hunting, them finding out about the Men of Letters, where Dean is (and Sam) will all be revealed in episode 13. Nothing in the original series will change (John still won't know about hunting until afterMary dies, etc, etc). It's a mystery that will unfold. You want the monsters to be a bigger threat... we find out at the end of the ep that there's monsters that want to wipe them out of existence. I liked the ep a lot.

Yeah, it does feel rushed. True, John isn't suppose to be hunting so early. I saw that too. But it's just the beginning.

And know there is a new evil that wants to destroy all supernatural beings

Gotta watch it still but I’m a hardcore supernatural fan and I know Jensen wanted a spin off but a little too soon same year that season 15 finale This would be great to new supernatural viewers who didn’t know the ENTIRE PREMISE OF THE SHOW is Mary’s death and John becoming a Hunter for revenge even in the excellent throw backs in supernatural season 4 and 5 are awesome so I don’t see me becoming a fan. Although I loved this pilot as a pilot_which is supposed to have you wanting to comeback for answers to questions ect.... I will stop watching if they bring back old tired SPN characters like cas or trickster or any of those. I want this show to stand on its own two feet and be a show that just happens to be a spn prequel For some reason Danneel has a hardon for collins/misha so its is not looking good for me to have this show on my must watch list like I have Big Sky

I didn't like it. It was hard to finish.

I love the fast pace... it doesn't even feel like it's an hour long... it goes by so fast. It's great.

Not going to nip pic the timelines and just try enjoy the show, thought it was good.

God help me I didn't hate it! 🙄 If it did nothing else I will be spending Christmas to New Year's re-watching all of Supernatural from season 1 thru!

I loved it. No way dude is it reminiscent of the last 5 seasons of spn. The lighting is fantastic. I guess you missed the part where John said he was given the letter from someone he didn't know who vanished right after. Could that have been Dean? or someone capable of time travel? Was it Henry? we don't know. Jensen said all answers to you so called canon buffs (which is laughable since Dabb totally tore apart all canon established in SPN in his seasons so anything can be done or changed by god.)will be told in episode 13.

So far I like the first episode so I will continue to watch the show the first episode is nice but not as great as supernatural first episode

It is what it is. Just like supernatural it is not a serious show. Supernatural had a bit of a rocky start too. Let the series develop a little further.

Just watched the first episode, & continuity aside; the astetic is well shot/the effects were at least "effective"/+ I enjoyed most of the main characters.... especially; Bianca Kajlich(hot @ any age). The only true negatives that I found: 1. The zombie beginning(so 2015). 2. The camera filtering is so "rusty" & yeah;I get it's set in the early seventies. 3. An aside/ the issue I have with many programs released in the last decade.... the diversity initiative (not aligned with Topeka, Kansas circa 1972).... but that's the PC world we live in🤨. As a whole: definitely worth further viewing + the young actors' portrayal of Mary & John were above passable. On a 5* scale.... I'd give it 3 1/2*. Hope it gets better & lives up to the greatness of Supernatural Seasons 1 - 5!

Just started episode one. Dreadful. The usual diversity nonsense: yawn, tiny strong female character tougher than any man. And the usual tick box preaching characters showing no regard to story telling. No care or understanding of the year 72 - gosh, the clothes, accents, and idioms are all wrong. A spasmodic, if not schizoid, piece of writing. Horrible, convenient exposition. It's taken me ages to watch episode one. I'm writing this as a break from the last fifteen minutes. Terrible so far. Let's see what episode two brings....

That girl who plays Mary is impossible to take seriously. Am I supposed to believe a tiny thing like that can punch harder than someone 12 times her size?

Here we go again. If they somehow could bring ketch back it be dope. Maybe time travel.

Like a woker and cornier Riverdale with nostalgic Supernatural terms thrown around in a fast paced storyline that explains very little on character development logic. Doesn’t look very promising for its Pilot episode already 😬

It's a garbage show....and I was incredibly disappointed.

In the future, the bad guys are *much* tougher.

7:19 Absolutely not. I can’t bring myself to watch this. The premise alone irritates me, and I don’t want to tune into a show and hate watching it. And this is old news that I recently discovered. So apparently the reason supernatural went on as long as it did was b/c of Mark Pedowitz: he was the CEO & Chairman of the CW, who recently just left his position. That alone should worry SPN fans who are really interested in this show. And the way that Nexstar is moving, I don’t see this show surviving.

The pilot was bad and not in a good way. The script was all over the place. Worst yet here we are looking for our missing dad again give me a break. This felt like a poor mans Scooby-Doo cartoon ripoff. It's a perfect fit for modern CW.

Why couldnt they just leave SPN die like it should have? NO, They had to destroy it even more. Not even going to watch this garbage! Plus I dont think its going to get pass the first season! David Zazlav the new savior of entertainment will see the numbers drop and Cancel it! Keep it up Zazlav.
