It is nice to see that the canvases do have a voice and will use it to support their artist if it was something they were genuinely happy with.

I would hate being a canvas on this show. I've seen too many canvases walk out loving their tattoo, then getting voted into the bottom. Even if it's a not-so-great tattoo, the person wearing it is who matters, and so many of them leave excited then come back with the wind gone from their sails.

Yeah but on the same token this is a competition where they are going to be judged so I don't see a problem.... It could also be looked at like layman going to buy a car and being happy what they walked away with versus a mechanic going and buying a car and really knowing what's up. yeah the layman may be happy with what they walked away with but if a mechanic saw what the laymen paid and walked away with he'd say you got ripped the f*** off. same thing with the tattoo you may be happy with it but it can still looks like s*** to some ppl. but hey it's a free country if you're okay walking around with s*** tattooed on you more power to you. 🤨🤭😉

Picasso's drawing was the best of this video, and it's an amazing drawing. Those judges are trash, like you said they don't like different art styles (and also not enough feminine tattoos on women...) I hope that the next seasons elect different judges who know how to judge tattoos properly, or at least that have an open mind to different ideas and styles

I really like his style to.. artistically it’s really cool but technically there is room for improvement because the line work is messy and the color is not even

Me too. That was one of the worst tattoo of all the seasons not just season 7. It was the angle of the face that made it truly awful. Made her look like an alien. Also I would be super angry if someone tattooed their girlfriend on me.

At least Corey's canvas can grow her hair out. What is that guy going to do about that awful piece on his chest? They showed favoritism for St. Marq. The fact that he set the challenge, in his dark style, while being so experienced and botched it (in part bc he couldn't tattoo someone who wasn't pale white) screams that he should go home

If you set a challenge based on something that’s supposed to be your specialty and then end up in the bottom, you should go home, no deliberation needed. You just proved that everybody else in the competition is better than you at the thing that you’re best at.

Saint Mark's was terrible, but Corey's face looked botched to me

That and Ashley getting shit for daring to not know what her canvas' bike should look like, when the canvas had the chance to look at the sketch and stencil before the lines went on. That's not her fault, that's on the canvas.

Yah gotta respect the realize they’re in a competition but end of the day the client has to wear that for life.

Well if some people can do even more artistry and much better technically applied tattoos in the same amount of time it’s the point of the time limit to make the competition more of a competition than just a loligagging show

The only challenge that has time as a friend is the very end or the final challenge.

I agree with the time thing but you can't really do 2 day tattoo. As soon as you finnish a session the skin is bloody, swollen and in pain. It also starts to heal directly after and the first night heal is always gunky and gross so you can't go back in the next day it's not safe for the client its actually dangerous. Most art is wait a minimum of 3 weeks before finishing a tattoo off so it can heal and no risk of infection. Most people who sign up for a 12hr tattoo are in for the long run and very few people can do that.

I thought the time limit didn't really happen it was just for the show itself, when Dave Navarro says what ever time there wasn't even people in the room. But I could be mistaken.

Yea! As you know when tattoo artist have their own parlor they aren't going to be working to please judges their working to make them and their client happy.

Ignoring the crap cut-and-paste composition, Alex's mask looks flat as hell. Like it would only fit on someone's face after, they ran head-first into a brick wall and smashed their nose back into their skull.

It's not because they dont look better than the rest. Chris didnt follow to challenge as well as the others

You have to follow the rules of the challenge. They're testing specific areas of tattooing each week, and if you're doing contrast day but not showing contrast, you're going home. I definitely think they nitpicked it too much, but Chris didn't even try to meet the challenge he was given.

Yeah... I have to constantly remind myself that at the end of the day, it's reality TV. It's not a legitimately fair competition.

@@LoveLee_Dreamer I think the issue is that the judges on this show are inconsistent about the criteria for their eliminations . Sometimes their eliminations are based specifically on not following that specific challenge, sometimes they just pick the tattoo thay they didn't care for that actually followed the challenge, and sometimes they go by the artist's "report cards" instead of focusing on the actual piece they're judging at that time.

@@bonniehowell9206 thatd the same issue I brought up in a comment on another video. The judges are totally & completely inconsistent and biased towards whichever decision yields the best result. It’s obvious when they praise somebody for doing something and then penalize another artist for the exact same technique. It’s mind boggling.

The worst part is that dude can never add to it it’s just this big dumb badly drawn tattoo on his back. Maybe a great cover up artist can do something over it covering his whole back. I’ve seen it done on this other tattoo artist YT channel mr.Reyes ink now that guy can tattoo

It doesn't pop as much as the other tattoos. So in comparison, it looks muted. However, people wrongly assume that just because something isn't bold, that it lacks detail. In reality, the tattoo was very detailed.

I always thought he was a perfectionist, and 6 hours was never enough for him...and that's what got into his head.

Ashley’s art always sucked and the fact that she was bottom 3 for the third time was just too much.

Yeah, but the anatomy was really weird. The eyes were crooked, the one leg disappeared into nowhere, and the other ended in a really weird foot that looked like a kid's drawing. The arm in the foreground looks like her elbow would need to be hyperextended to achieve the pose she has. Because of the way the top of the outfit hits, it looks like the character's breasts are drastically different shapes and sizes. I know breasts aren't identical, but it's like one DD cup and one b cup the way it's drawn. The concept and design were cool, the execution was pretty rough.

The fact of the matter is though, her tattoo has horrifically bad anatomy and anatomy is not only a key element of a "superhero" tattoo but any tattoo involving a person. It really shows off her amateur skills and that she's a lazy artist. Because learning to draw people is one of the easiest art skills to practice. There are endless resources and references online. And life drawing classes, where you draw a naked model with other artists, are some of the easiest classes to find and attend as well. They're very cheap and usually run every week. And the design and application are hardly great either. The superhero costume is as bland a design as possible. And there's nothing particularly incredible about painting a cupcake on the character's butt, for instance. The colour saturation is not that great either.

She was horrible and always at the bottom. If they let her stay she would have ruined numerous ppls body with her horrible tattoos and be at the bottom every time it would of been a waste to let her stay

@@JL-rx7ou she's done all of my tattoos and all of my daughter's tattoos and they've all come out perfect! There's a lot of crap going on behind the scenes. That being said, I'd never go on ink master and get a tattoo from anyone.

@@steppy3736 I can only go by what I see on ink master and what she produced while there, me I’d love to be a “canvas” but not one in the beginning of the season. It would have to be the last round or be a master “canvas” and get a free full sleeve,back or chest and stomach tattoo by the most talented artists there. The tattoos that some of these ppl got were absolutely amazing big pieces. Clean Rock One’s full chest stomach and part hip tattoo was huge and amazing but the one I’d really like to of gotten is the black and grey realism back piece or the color dragon back piece done by old town ink artists DJ Tambe and Bubba Irwin. They legit got a 20-30k tattoo for free and the bragging rights to a winning piece

I agree. He had some clean lines and good color saturation but that's like it. Picassos art is so creative and detailed, and it flows nicely.

I would rather have some wobbly lines than a god awful design. If you look at great art through history, a perfect line is literally never the priority

Roland is a one trick pony in Polynesian work. It still baffles me the judges/producers allowed him to go as far as he did in the competition, so many people got screwed with awful work from him. I know the canvases volunteer and take the risk by getting free tattoos from the show, but it was just wrong to allow Roland to keep tattooing people.

Those three are the worst artists to have ever appeared on the show.

Cleen is overrated, honestly. There were so many better artists on this show and some people seem to think he's great. That tattoo wasn't the worst one ever but it definitely was really bad.

@@glopop5282 He did blackface on three separate occasions that we know of. In these instances, he painted his entire body brown, often donning an Afro wig. In one case, he dressed as a racist caricature of a black Superman-like character with an “N” instead of an “S” emblazoned on his chest. In another, he was dressed as a basketball player. Photos are available on TMZ if you search “Oliver Peck blackface.” The photos are pretty shocking. In this case, I can’t say I’m sorry he was cancelled. Racism in the tattoo industry is already a huge issue; to have the judge of a renowned competition like Ink Master behaving in this way only perpetuates it.

Tbh I don't find problem with it in this specific context. These people aren't clients, rather volunteers but that doesn't roll off the tongue as well. And a majority of the time there's no focus on the person at all, the entire show is focused on the art produced no matter who it's on for whatever reason. When referring to them, canvas is really what suits best.

I actually think her tattoos are better than some they had win, especially since every single one had anatomy issues. I didnt like the bike, but its not her fault since her canvas didnt bring in a direct reference and didn't give her pointers as the expert. Her anatomy is legitimately not as bad as some of the guys. Even then, Picasso's is completely his style. Those who try to be anotomical and failed harder than them should have been gone, not Picasso.

What’s even weirder are the clips where you can hear him speak, but he’s not on screen.

The judges come from a traditionalistic viewpoint where having a solid outline is the most important. However, one can see from many art styles outside of tattooing, that outlines are not always necessary to produce aesthetically-pleasing and readable art.

He's technically competent but tbh I don't find any of his work beautiful - he's just not a great artist. I'd always prefer an aesthetically pleasing tattoo with minor linework issues over something ugly but smoothly applied.
