This movie is really underrated. Have you seen the early British Hitchcock movies? You can also see this theme of police irresponsibility early in his careers in films like The Lodger and Blackmail (and many more really). Hitchcock was scared of the police since he was very young, when his father, to punish him for a misbehaving, had him locked for three minutes in a police cell. The Wrong Man is based on true events but I think Hitchcock was interesting in this story because he knew that his fears were not irrational, in the real world innocent men (and women) are convicted and jailed all the time.

Magnificent film, one of my favorite Hitchcock movies. The Wrong Man is so terrifying because it is so real: it could happen to any of us.

I would easily mark this as the most disturbing Hitchcock movie out there. There's no violence or gore or really any classic Hitchcock staples here, just mismanagement by the police and a truckload of implications. There's a different feel to this movie, it just makes you incredibly uncomfortable though the whole thing, the whole thing just feels completely hopeless.

I saw the film without reading much about it --- it is a great critique of t America --- its fragile prosperity and the treatment by police to get a suspect at any cost.
