30:52 is exactly what is happening. In gw2 base game, you are not the hero. You are talented recruit 8457. Trahern is the hero. That changes after the base game though.
@marthdaeglin well, Aurene is more like a Deus Ex Machina, and Braham technically is the protagonist for up to HoT, but after that is the Commander and Rytlock's show, then he becomes a recurring character while almost fucking everything up in Icebrood Saga.
Can’t wait to hear what you have to say for Zaitain. He was a great disappointment even at launch, and that was when you were forced to be in a party to even complete the final quest. Mordimoth was a vast improvement imo, especially if you’re playing a salad person.

Hey Roze, love your videos about GW2. The thing you said about an underwater vehicle, actualy there's a mount called skimmer and when you get it there's an achievment that allows you to use it underwater. The movement speed of the mount underwater is a bit slower then on surface but that's the option for faster travel underwater.
I dare to say, your description of the connection between nc soft and arenanet, is perfectly accurate. fun fact: there WAS a pvp map where you could fight underwater at the launch of the game. but it was removed pretty quickly, because the classes were very unbalanced... (and anet was also lazy i guess)
It's not that they were lazy really. The story of Guild Wars 2 is saturated with over-ambition with relation to their available resources. Remember that they were trying to do live service updates with persistent changes to the world every few weeks at that point. It was way too much even without the prospect of redesigning or rebalancing the broken mess of underwater PvP. Mesmers did 5 stacks of Confusion on auto-attack and just deleted everyone. Anet have literally never had the capacity to do all the things they wanted to but they STILL try to do too much - SotO could have been a 2-3 expac storyline but they jammed it into one year of content and it feels so much more shallow than the rest of the game...

The solution for me was to specify this in the LFG party creator. And yell at those that got in and STILL RUSHED. Like, really offensively call them out and either vote a kick or leave and start another party if they don't comply or leave themselves.
Underwater combat was abandoned shortly after the game came out. There was even an underwater pvp map and the middle of the WvW borderland maps had underwater combat.
Roze, mate, anything, and I mean ANYTHING you say about the Zhaitan Fight goes double for me. And I've done it twice. Second time wasn't so bad as I main Reaper so I was used to spamming "1". But it gets better. Thank Hell, it gets better!
17:30 you mention wanting to walk/run faster in water. It's possible to use a swim speed infusion which you can buy off the tP or get for free by killing a few krait and opening a chest and that'll make underwater movement significantly better. I don't know the engineer's underwater weapons all that well, but a number of them also have movement abilities that make underwater movement more enjoyable. However, a lot of this is also generally addressed these days via the skimmer mount since it can be used both above and below water. (I know it's not pertinent to your leveling experience, but I figured I'd point it out regardless.) @Roze Resyndicated
Ah yes, the Zhaitan Fight i think we all know what you're going to say about it and i'm prety sure we all are going to agree with it. Imagine being this all powerfull dragon that is so powerfull it's considered to be a force of nature, and you end up defeating it by shooting fucking fireworks to it's face a bunch of time.
@@dewilton7712 The problem isn't that they thought it was impossible to defeat them initially, the issue is how underwealming the fight is. This is the first dragon we fight, it was suposed to be a grand and epic fight, and instead the fight ends up being just get on the cannons and press 1 a bunch of times. Not only that but you're required to do a dungeon, in fact the Zhaitan fight is the only required dungeon you have to do in the entire game as far as the main quests goes, which means that while the rest of the story is soloable, you're forced to party up for this final quest, or atleast you had to back in the day when i used to play, so you might get in a situation where you can't finish the storyline if you can't find 3 other players to run it with you.

@@legeul All of the boss fights are underwhelming in their own way. They all stand there and let you smack them in their face or foot. Instead of stepping on you or swallowing you whole.
- Underwater combat was indeed basically abandoned soon after launch. There is exactly one underwater fractal and everyone hates it because it slow. And its slow because while the on-land combat was constantly updated (and powercrept of course), underwater skills were rarely if ever touched, and at best newly added skills were given an underwater version. This creates a funny situation when players whose newer skills work underwater can outdps the entire rest of the party who are using vanilla skills. Best example of that is Reaper spec because his reaper shroud works underwater and just uses land skills with minimal changes. - Bots are a weird topic in this game. Very few people do it, but those who do usually have dozens if not hundreds of accounts, because Anet frequently gives out keys for the base game in different promotional events. So such a botter can sign up for whatever thing is happening and get dozens of new full (not f2p) accounts going instantly. And while open world afk farming is barely profitable for a typical player, if you have a billion accounts leeching the meta event, it adds up. There are also events and world bosses with extremely rare drops (various infusions, collection items, invisible boots, etc) which are meant to be the jackpot drops and fetch thousands of gold on tp. So by having more accounts, you increase your chances of getting something valuable. Such accounts were also used for login reward farming, until it was switched to the new system we have now. On a side note, literally in the last patch Anet finally added afk detection that kicks players that leech events, but I bet it can still be circumvented somehow. - The reason you see nobody outside of bank and TP in the cities is two-fold - there aint much to do after you explored all of it, and there are "VIP lounges" that you can buy access to (thankfully not a subscription lol), where all the same services are packed tighter together. These are where all the veterans hang out.
With regards to underwater, I have to start with "you're not wrong." There are only three weapons and each class only gets two of them at most. However, you mentioned wanting missiles, as an engineer your harpoon fires missiles. But yeah, they very much abandoned underwater so fast, and so many people wish they hadn't.
The part about Zhaitan I didn't like is when he perched on the mountain thing. It looked like there was going to be another phase to the fight but instead they ended it there.
17:10 There are ways to make you move faster underwater. Swim Speed Infusions for when you are not mounted, and the Skimmer with full masteries when you are mounted.
10:10 well, still didn't know for sure, the closest confirmation we got was his name got mentioned in the unsealed document. It's an email about disproving the allegation
don't know if anyone mentioned it before but the weapon skills were originally unlocked differently than it is now. When gw2 first launched, the weapons skills basically had its own individual experience bar esstientally. for example, kill enemies with the weapon skill one and with each hit and kill would unlock skill 2. use either skill 1 or 2 on an enemy to unlock weapon skill 3 and etc. You had to do this with every weapon individually per character. This system was changed at the same time they changed the story to being every 10 levels in the base game.
Forgal's Voice actor was the Original Ben 10 Grandfather Voice actor I thought that was impressive that they got someone well known so early in the game.... Tybalt is better than Forgal....
Regarding Underwater Combat & Movement. It sadly had been abandoned pretty shortly after launch, which is very noticeable in the strength of some classes underwater whrn compared to others, as well as the general lack of water based content past the base game. However there is a specific item that lets you move faster underwater. There's a vendor in Lion's Arch, west of the lobster, that allows you to buy an exotic rebreather that can hold an infusion (similar to ascended gear) and here you can input a swimspeed infusion (farmable by killing krait and opening the ornate chests underwater). Swimspeed infusion can be increased in level and there is also an account wide one that you can level and alot into your character via that merchant. Great video. I'm still hoping for a water rework

Things is about Caithe hairstyle and look, there was Sylvari rework. Previously, before release of game they looked like green elves with some leaves and twigs, not literally plant people.
The dumbest, most toxic thing about GW2 dungeon and LFG design is a new player can make an LFG group to experience the new exciting thing they unlocked, get matched with 4 speed running tryhards, and then get kicked by them when they try to watch the cutscenes. The LFG needs attention at this point regardless of how bad an investment of dev time that might seem... People afk farm/bot because even basic materials from trash mobs have enough gold value to add up. That wouldn't be enough in and of itself, but when the game lets you convert gold to premium currency, a couple of hours in a really good spot whilst watching a film on 2nd monitor can literally buy you a whole Living World story chapter or new gemstore skin...
You're totally right about underwater combat being both cool and extremely limited.... They haven't even really touched it since the game launched. It is sad how this cool thing is just there wasting away. Maybe if we get a water expansion but I doubt that'll happen unless they really really run out of ideas.
consumerism, that's all we can blame for our habit to rush things ...it's not even efficiency anymore, it's just consumerism and the fear of missing out... i had a blast doing and redoing the same game, at snail pace, 10years ago when i was around 20yo, in borderlands1, just because i was surrounded by great peoples not eager to rush things, we were enjoying exploration even for the 15time...
Don’t know if anyone already said but they took the underwater PvP map out! Had a sunken pirate boat in and one capture point was underwater plus had vet sharks near the point too (it wasn’t all underwater).
Most people (including me), don't like underwater combat because it's so clunky. I don't know if there is a way to fix this. Btw I played Aion too and, true, the 3d flying felt better iirc.

It took me WAY too long to figure out what the "elder dragons" were when I started playing the game. I was running around doing events and hearts and shit with no clue how anything fit together. It's like anime where the first half of the series is introducing the characters with no plot and the second half is all plot with no character development. Except in this case it's 10-30 hours of introducing the races and ∞ hours of plot with no character development. I avoid Lion's Arch unless the story forces me there. I don't know anything LA has that I can't get elsewhere. Roze: Yoko Ono Muk: Let me spend 20 minutes explaining that joke. Balancing between criticizing a good (but not great) thing and praising a flawed (but not bad) thing is so hard, especially on the internet where anything you say is taken any possible way. As a viewer it's so easy to turn on the DPS part of my brain and look for a simple "Good" or "Bad" rating in any review.
Aight, about the FF14 thing as a FF14 player: usually the ONLY time you get kicked from a party in a dungeon is if you are a genuine asshole that refuses to listen to anything and doesnt communicate. in my over 4 years of playing, I have only had that happen once. Now, granted, if you go into the more difficult content, kicking happens a lot more frequently, but a lot less people actually do stuff like Savage or Ultimate, so its more a matter of running into the same assholes repeatedly.
Gotta agree about the personal story shouldn't merge so early. It's super neat but it's gone way too soon. Even the faction you choose is completely pointless almost immediately. IT really should and could be better
So I did see an area in core tyria for roller beetle racing. BUT its in such an obscure location in the lower to mid level maps, it made NO sense to me.

They really need to revamp the core story since idk its the core game and brings in more players wanting. It literally only needs some polish. Redo the Zhaitan fight. Redo a few quests. There are small metas that literally take 30 minutes and you barely do ANYTHING, its literally 40 seconds between spawns of 2-3 enemies at a time. and they die fast. There is NO reason for that.

So roze has created 8 characters and hasn't encountered a single beetle race. The beetle race is an activity which is marked as a person with a yellow cape holding a stick icon on the map. Maybe he doesn't interact with them because he thinks it's a jump puzzle or non-combat events. And the only reason I'm pointing this out is because the first expansion's maps are littered, LITTERED, with these activities and maybe he won't interact with them. Hope he does in the future.
Underwater combat definitely added to the GW2 experience, but they never expanded on it. And I doubt they ever will. I guess underwater combat added too much complexity to their development process to keep up. In the past, they even went so far and removed most to all underwater combat in PvP amd WvW.
I think the GW2 and FFXIV communities can probably both relate with regards to their stories. I hated almost every moment playing through ARR in FFXIV, but the last quest of the 2.X content and all of Heavensward was very enjoyable, and I had that "ahhh, this is why people like this game" moment (the combat was still not for me). GW2's story is fairly similar, so I while I agree that the base game's story isn't great outside of a few memorable moments (mostly nostalgic for veterans of the game at this point, though) and I would love to see it reworked, it feels pretty standard now for MMO devs to just abandon the base game's story and focus on expansion content because the playerbase will just tell newbies "it gets better in expansions, don't worry."
1:02:00 lets find them a*holes I would always let ppl watch the cutscenes when they are new I even had a whole guild dedicated to help new and retunring players back when I was playing activly. I am sry you had to deal with ppl like that q.q what can help is make groups in the lfg where you already say you want to watch the cutscenes!
They are skritt. My guild based around these tiny nasty theifs. I use asura fot a specific reason. When fighting zergs or small roams they r harder to hit. I have the smalling tonic for a bit less targeting.
Hey Roze. Regarding the bots in events. Some events and mobs have that so called jackpot items with a 0.0000000001% drop chance which sell for thousands or tens of thousands of gold. Since most if not all of them can only be done/looted once per day per account, the bot armies rise for that extra chance to get filthy rich. If by any chance you loot an item that says "infusion", check the trading post before vendoring it for a couple of silver. Not all of them are rare/expensive mind you, but 100% worth the seconds to check
not only are there only 3 underwater weapons, anet gave up on them long time ago, they deleted underwater pvp bcs they couldnt balance the normal fights in the first place .... their underwater scenery is amazing, its has so much potential but even when we fought literal water dragon we were fighting him on a tower high in the air rather then underwater
they excel at map design, but after the first expansion they do not use that to their advantage ... unfortunately GW2 is just cut content after cut content ... they stopped dungeons, raids, underwater systems, living world story, changing the expansions system numerous times, the story was never the best, but it was kinda ok, they cant develop their expansions fully, all the boss fights that come out are horribly bugged to the point where you cant finish them, time after time, then they fix the main issues and leave it so they wouldnt break it more, so ppl learn to play around bugs after
honestly crazy that people are getting mad about you taking dungeons slow on STORY MODE lmao, you dont even get dungeon currency for running these. ive been really enjoying running dungeons slowly and as intended with my friends who just started playing this month. ive personally had no problems pugging story but i also specifically put in my lfg description that ill be watching cutscenes. the way i see it, if they have a problem, they can host their own party and go in explorable mode where they might actually get something worth their time lol

This has been a fun journey to follow along with. I've been playing and following Guild Wars since the beta of the original game. Guild Wars 2 is mechanically a very good game, but in terms of story and lore they butchered almost everything interesting that was set up in the first game and the Ghosts of Ascalon book.
32:50 mounts aren't base game, why would you expect to see paid content that in a zone that was developed many years before, sure it would be cool if they brought some races into the base game but I don't think it's right to assume races in the base maps that's barely been touched edit: during yearly events i'm pretty sure each one has at least 1 race so at least people find out during those times
You are certainly entitled to impose restrictions on yourself. However like the "book series" your self imposed restrictions are the only thing stopping you from skipping to the good living world. Skipping to do rollerbeetle or w/e else you might rather be doing in the game.
My point is to focus on core because it's such a stark contrast to the rest of the game. Also much easier and neater to do a video on each game segment in its entirety
gw2 starting story is what? 10 years old? i doubt they change it at this point... it's kind of a story that gets better at each steps. a story that makes a simple nobody character, into a god fighting captain... the base story is freaking epic but everybody gets it wrong. or don't get it at all xD
