So to follow up on that "I wish the backstories you chose stay with you until the lvl 80 story" One path actually DOES do that! Its the Norn story choice about the heirloom that was given away in an unfair challenge that was rigged. You end up meeting the ancestor whos heirloom you ended up losing (which spoilers is your ancestor as well, I believe his name is Romke) during the lvl 80 story with Trahearne and apparently there was more to be heard when it came to that story choice itself but Anet decided to update the game and make the interaction less obvious on who you were talking to (You only find out hes your Ancestor towards the end of the mission where you talk with him and he says he hopes you take better care of the map than the heirloom). I wish all stories did that because when i found out he was the ancestor I was genuinely happy and surprised they brought the backstory back one more time.
I am defs part of the former camp, only wanna play GW2. Something about my completionist aspect draws me to it. What I love most about the game is the combat/team composition/build crafting side of things, and that your efficiency in combat directly correlates with skill level/experience. There's no skip on the 'git gud' train, and because there's no vertical progression, your progression feels extremely meaningful when you master a hard mechanic or rotation or whatever.
Hey, hey. Your Genshin Impact quota is both simultaneously underestimated and overestimated. Youre looking at 300$ to to 100% get the character. Now bear in mind this is not the full version of said character, this is only step 1 of 7. You need 6 more copies of them, so hey schmuck you better get to pulling the lever. So bad luck you’re looking at 2100$ to get a fully upgraded character. Now you want to FULLY max them? Well you’re gonna need the weapon now, start spinning buddy same price per 10. So you’re only looking at about 4000$ to finish a character assuming bad luck. And people wonder why I refuse to spend a dime on Hoyo games.
So logistically I think the pivot from making DokeV and Crimson Desert an MMO to something else hinges more on the fact that Pearl Abyss already runs and operates two MMOs technically since Black Desert and Black Desert Mobile are two separate games. I would NEVER trust a company that runs more than 2 MMOs. Pearl Abyss for their standard Asian faults I actually think are making the correct choice with both of those games.
Yeah, I'm still waiting for a more modern and mechanically deeper MMO to grab me. The biggest reasons I come back is, that GW2s combat feels very good compared to other MMOs and it still has the least BS, even tho it piles up and now reached a very annoying lvl compared to 12 years ago. It's almost unfortunate how no MMO in 12 years didn't has at least less BS than GW2 has even today. I was really disappointed, when NW was total shit in almost every aspect, since a souls-like combat system in a MMO sounds very cool. I like the MP part in any FromSoftware souls game, including PvP part. Another problem is, that I'm really not a big fan of subs, because I always feel like I would waste money, if I don't play it, so Ashes of Creation is a no go for me, but their node system is really cool and I hope it inspires other MMOs. It is very similar to what GW2s dynamic event system was promised to be. It is still one of the biggest things I miss from what GW2s initial ideas and design. It promised back than, that those are long chain events actually changes the map and give NPCs etc. You can even see remnants of this idea in some short event chains in Kryta, Gendarran Fields in the village of Cornucopian Fields or Ascalon, Plains of Ashford in the camp of Decimus Stones, where you even unlock a camp with a WP after successfully completing the events. From what I’m told is what they were making was too similar to other games on the market, so they went back to the drawing board. So I’m not really optimistic

I play GW2 hoping for great story and ultimately being disappointed every time. Nostalgia refuses to let me admit that maybe GW was just never that epic in the first place. I really wish with their new expansion cadence they’d do a mostly-story expansion with a few QoL things. And then the next year mostly-systems with a lighter story. I just want to fuckin care about the lore man please. 😢 PS also because fuck WoW and having to be in raiding guilds to get imaginary points to roll a dice and bid against teammates for an item that drops 1/10 kills.
lore never was that great but I thought it was really cool back in 2014 when they started with the Living World, really felt like live progression and everyone theorized about Scarlett and Mordy I'm in the same boat as you though, my older brother and me are playing GW franchise since its inception, so we're always checking in and often end up a little disappointed. End of Dragons was kinda cool for me personally but I know many didn't like it that much. SotO was just hot garbage, truly the Shadowlands moment of GW2. I just hope they won't massacre GW1 lore in Janthir Wilds with the titans and stuff.
I don't like virtical progression games. It's just funny number goes up. It's a bad illusion of power. My legendary weapons and ascended equipment in GW2 were journeys to acquire. No matter when I come back to the game my equipment isn't suddenly and arbitrarily invalidated because the devs decided funny number needed to go up again
Partially true. Reasons: - It's a good casual game to always come back to. - enjoy your accomplishments since it's horizontal progression. - miss the Mounts or Skins or dye (best customizations our there for me) - easy to find Lots of people and feel like an mmo. - easy to get back into pvp - enjoy meta events. - continue meaningful progression. - Gw2 is a game I always come back to, regardless of what I go to play. I feel with less things to do in other games. I just finished story in Ff14, and find nothing good to do anymore. Everything I want is either too hard or tedious to get so whatever, back to Gw2.
The "respects your time" thing is important to me. I played FF14 for years and years before i ran out of things i wanted to do. All the new stuff? Takes like a handful of hours to complete, and then im bored again. Everyone in that bloody community tells me how great it is that they respect our time enough to not make any grinds. But i WANT something that takes time and effort that isn't savage raids. 😔 Im working on some cool Legendaries in GW2. Its ridiculously time consuming, but in the end you get a really cool weapon that will be end game relevant forever. For multiple characters because you can copy them if your alt can use it too.
@@Tessa_Ru Exactly, you CAN grind and it WILL feel worth it, but you don't have to. Only thing I didn't really like recently was obtaining the Obsidian Armor. Yes it's entirely optional, yes raid armor would have been more time efficient but I still wanted the Obsidian armor. And maaaan, was it a slog. So boring, killing the same 5 enemy types (that are just reskins from previous expacs) over and over again. And yet, I just recently finished my 6th legendary weapon, and instantly started the 7th one LOL It's just fun as fuck to choose your own goals, calculate your best path to get it and then work on it for weeks (or months when I'm playing less), slowly chipping away.
Many people have said it, but i like the fact that GW2, simply, respects your time, from the moment you buy it, just respects your time, you're never left behind, you don't have the constant urge to keep playing it because you paid a fee and the invisible guillotine of the 30 days sub is dangling over your head awaiting to chop your access off, there's always people to do something, the fact that you don't need a pc from the NASA to run it is a huge bonus, the fact that they decided to make it Steam Deck/Linux compatible and don't try to frame or toxicly pursue people using other operative systems is also a huge bonus, i still remember years ago when valve released the first version of Proton and people asked Bungie if they would either make a linux version (which THEY DID MAKE, but it was only for Stadia), or make the game Proton compatible so we could play on linux, and the statement they released basically resumed as: we are assholes, we think linux is piracy and should be removed from the face of the earth. I'm happy that Arenanet isn't a sect of assholes and they simply keep looking ahead without shitting on the past or the present.
Well... Yeah... The thing about gw2 that cathes me the most is the horizontal progression. I never feel left behind, what I do always feels like it's worth my time and I don't have to feel bad about not progressing with something that will be rendered meaningless next patch. Unless another horizontal MMO comes out *cough* riot MMO *cough* , I will "stay dormant" in gw2. Or at least till next expansion...
Sometimes I command older/less popular/less frequented meta events, or I do full dungeon runs the whole day if time allows it. Or I do fractal progression runs for noobs on T1-T3. All just for the fun of it and because the community is chill and everyone appreciates that someone is taking time out of their day. I could just do Daily Fractals & CMs, weekly raid wings, weekly Strike CMs & daily meta train (the usual ones) for maximum profit all day, but sometimes you just wanna dick around and help that guy who picked up the game 4 months prior to get that Rollerbeetle, y'know?
Guild wars is the only game Ik that’s an active MMO that genuinely respects your time with a future ahead. OSRS is the only other title I can actually stomach and isn’t a gear grind just to stay relevant. Any other title I touch is simply out of curiosity and usually it falls short of expectations
GW2 offers different game play. I know i am not up to raids or pvp ..i can choose to work my game and achieve end game nirvana..my game is bout being happy and helping others.
The Wild West is hard to make an MMO around and keep alive without a twist. Crafting/Sandbox is a recipe for 3 months of playerbase and then dead but Gw2's Event/ Meta model would be great if a Wilf West mmo game out tied with a spin like Elvin Cowboys fighting Jellyfish or something, and Giant Wombats are the mounts with the first expansion being centered around Tremors.

Stay away from Requiem (originally Requiem Bloodymare then Requiem Memento Mori for its second season and Requiem Rise of the reaver) The game failed deleted everyone's accounts & toons then relaunched as the original game (Bloodymare) as Requiem Desiderium Mortis. Its pay to win mmorpg with this shady slot machine reinforcement schism to enhance armors and weapons rewarding cash users most. In fact stay away from any game that has ties to Gravity.
The only good Sandbox MMO I’ve played ever was Star Wars Galaxies, and I that game actually started to fail WHEN it abanonded its Sanbox gameplay and style. Just saying.
@@RozeMMO Absolutely I think the 2 decades of theme park MMOs have really made it so extremely hard to even break into the genre because of pre existing conditioning. Players enter those games and literally are lost cus they’re so used to the game directing them to the content. Albion came close until well the systems were completely taken advantage of. SWG will always go down as probably the most depressing death of a game ever, because it seemingly took the damn genre down with it too. Also doesn’t hurt to have a game based around player interactions and the world when players already have a connection to the lore and universe they’re playing in. if something like this takes off, it’s gonna need to piggyback off a Wild Western IP.
There's plenty of room for a good wild west themed MMO. The two tricks would be making a good MMO and then convincing people to try the new genre out. Good luck to anyone trying to pull either off. I wasn't aware people don't consider GTA Online an MMO. I don't see how it wouldn't be one?

If the rest of the way was like Guild wars to where I don’t mind buying for a skin some extra bag socks that’ll be so great but since they’re always so greedy like black Desert online 80 bucks for a outfit at times I kind of see where he’s coming from
The mythic items are honestly very.... meh a lot of the time. You have to sacrifice the highest tier of the set bonus you're wearing and those are often on par with the bonuses the mythics give. And being someone that tanked the hardest content for most of the game's life, I wore the same gear in most of it with only occasional changes.
about gamedevs.. they are quite active ingame... I have actually the employee related achievements of "creator" doing raid, fractal and killing them... actually the killing them was accidental... I didn't even know there was one... I was "trebucheting" a tower and missed the wall... saw the numbers, the achievement pop up and me saying in map chat "ANET was on X tower... got achievement" and somehow there was manhunt for half an hour for it in WvW... early days of warclaw lol Also yeah, they like to check on different social media forms treams to reddit and ask you questions... Actually a friend of mine got bot checked by them... the funny thing, my friend feel being followed... suddenly wrote in chat "Who is there? stop being funny >:(" and Anet pop up, later we asking why he was suddenly silent for a while, he became besties with the employee, they are mutual friends ingame... He got the PVP "kill the creator" out of his friendship.
