The New Era of Mic-ing!
NUX Solid Studio was created and designed to address: limited gear availability, and the cumbersome transport reality of physical amp/speaker cabinets.
NUX is proud to introduce the new Verdugo series Solid Studio IR & Power Amp simulator, a pedal version of the most classic amp/cabinet scenarios including microphones and power amp tubes. Over many years of research, Solid Studio was specifically developed to fill the essential needs of discerning musicians and sound technicians, including the art of mic-ing instrument amplifiers on stage or in the studio. Solid Studio provides ease-of-use, reliability, versatility, and, above all, incredible audio quality.
Virtual mic-ing is achieved by choosing 1 cabinet and 1 microphone, and fine-tuning the position of the microphone using the mic position switch. Plus, you can add the tube sound by engaging the power amp simulation.

Third time through this, and "you guys are smart people, you know what you're doing" - I believe we have found the exception, right here folks! Thank goodness for ThePedalGuy. I still have no idea what I'm doing but now, at least, I know what I don't know. Looking forward to the 3rd-Party IR vid. Gonna watch it now, because I am not frustrated enough (yet). Nothing wrong with the product or TPG, it's just I'm old and tech-dumb.

Best review, most comprehensive. I ordered this pedal last night on an "impulse", in hope of more tone option compared to my CabDryVR. This video brings comfort that I did not waste my money, haha. I appreciate long time/work that went into making this video; thank you! 😈

Honestly, The Pedal Guy was not on my radar as place to purchase pedal until now. But for sure, now! Since you make these videos, it shows you know about these products and care about this business. Amazon gets enough of my money...I always prefer to order pedals from dedicated music shop, versus same place that I purchase underwear and dental floss. 😂 Thanks again!

Excellent review - thank you. Two questions, if I may - 1. could I get a late '60s Laney sound from the pedal alone [ early Sabbath sound ]? 2. I use a Blackstar HT studio 20 amp. Guitar goes into amp - would I use 'emulated output' from rear of amp into the NUx and then out to Scarlett 8i6 Focusrite box into a Mac.? Other rear of amp outputs are - 1x16 OHM/1x8 OHM. Also has effects send + return loop on back. Sorry - new to pedal connections.

I just watched this and your video for the hotone binary cab. How do you think they compare? I’ve been trying to decide on a cabsim for a direct recording board. Any other better suggestions in this price range?
@ThePedalGuy
@ThePedalGuy 5 лет назад
Dylan Thomas Pals thanks for the feedback. They’re both pretty great. The main difference is the solid studio power amp section and some additional I/O. On the binary side of things the Cab pedal comes with a lot of different cabinets. The only other alternative with be the digitech cabdryvr. Hope that helps.
@dylanthomaspals8794
@dylanthomaspals8794 5 лет назад
ThePedalGuy but the binary cab seems to have the same advanced power amp adjustments in the global section no? I guess there’s no drive control. I like that the nux has the xlr DI out though. Can it also be used as a dedicated DI with both switches turned off?

hi there im planning on using it live and go DI on the mixer. My question is if i want to use my own amp (katana 100) as a monitor what do i use? do i have to plug it in infront of the amp with the thru or output?

So ideally this would be placed after some sort of preamp? Or would you just use it by itself as a all in one amplifier with emulated cabs?
@ThePedalGuy
@ThePedalGuy 4 года назад
Thanks for your question. Yes, this pedal can be placed in the signal chain post preamp. You can also use it between a power amp and a cabinet (read the instructions first). It's a good way to get the amp/cab sound without needing to schlep around a full rig. It's also an ideal way to get the amp/cab sound for recording to your computer. Hope that helps.

hi, pedal man. great review, no hammer guitar show, but step by step through the options of this cool pedal, that I`ve orderd. Until 25:00 you play all in a clean sound. In my opinion, the clean sound is the base for every crunch, distorted or high gain sounds. Can`t wait until the pedal arrives. Is it correct, that I could play my guitar through this pedal, through a tremolo and a delay - and then by the DI box directly into the PA?!
@ThePedalGuy
@ThePedalGuy 3 года назад
Basically yes, that's exactly how it can be used. It should be at the end of your signal chain.

What’s a Brit Wind amp? It isn’t clear what you’re doing after you switched to the external amp. Did you switch the SS5 from line to speaker? I’m curious how that works.
@ThePedalGuy
@ThePedalGuy 4 года назад
Hi Pete, Thanks for your questions. The BritWind is a mini amp by Hotone. You'd have to be a little more specific with your second question, as we shot this video over 2 years ago.
@petecarney2035
@petecarney2035 4 года назад
ThePedalGuy You mention that you can use the Solid Studio 5 between an amp head and a cabinet but you have to switch the line level to speaker; you could damage your amp at line level. The vid wasn’t clear whether you switched to speaker mode or if you were using an amp sim pedal at line level. I looked up britwind and see that it is a 75watt amp so you must have switched to speaker level. I would like to use this pedal with my tube head and am having trouble finding a review with an amp plugged into the Solid Studio. Thanks for the video.

Hi Pedal Guy. I'm late to the show!! This is not a load box though is it? I mean I want to be able to plug my amp directly into this pedal and from there into my DAW. I guess I would need to disable the power amp sims. Is that possible?
@ThePedalGuy
@ThePedalGuy 4 года назад
BanditPanda thanks for the questions. This is not a load box. This is a power amp simulator and IR loader so it’s got a different use. If you want to go straight from your amp to your DAW you will want to look at something like the Two Notes Torpedo or similar.

@mattgilbert7347

Ok very cool But I have the Cerberus. Now, that has the IR/cab em. I don't think it has mic placement and it defintely doesn't have power-amp sim. I've been using a preamp pedal as my "amp sim" in between the drive/dist section of the Cerberus (I don't like the overdrive and the distortion is ok - but it ain't a preamp style pedal) If I used this with the Cerberus, would that work? And if I used it *without* the Cerberus, where to put my mods and delay * verbs??
@ThePedalGuy
@ThePedalGuy 5 лет назад
Hi Matt, Thanks for the questions. It was a bit of a head scratcher as to how I could best advise you. If you follow the signal path of the Cerberus, the Solid Studio should work fine using it on the output of the Cerberus. Granted it will likely take some tweaking to get it to sound its best, but I'm pretty sure that would work fine. Here's the Cerberus signal path for your reference. www.nuxefx.com/uploadfile/2017/0822/cerberus%20signal%20flow%20fiagram2.png You can always use a different overdrive or distortion pedal before it reaches the modulation and reverb/delay section using the 4 cable method. Hope that helps.
@mattgilbert7347
@mattgilbert7347 4 года назад
@@ThePedalGuy Thanks for your answer but I sold the Cerberus! It was wasted on me, I only used it for chorus, delay and IR. I have the Hotone Binary AMP and the Solid Studio instead, I think we communicated about those before. Also, a Digitech CabDryVR just for a no-nonsense, guitar/bass stereo grab 'n go IR. I'm struggling with the Solid Studio. It seems very bright, brittle, harsh on the power amp side. The IRs are ok. I'd like to load 3rd-party but don't know how. I need to update the firmware I guess, but I really think I need a better computer for recording, etc. Mine is a POS! Not being able to use amps is driving me crazy, all this new tech is hard on an aging brain like mine. The guy I play with is even worse, he doesn't even understand live sound, don't get me started lol! But I digress. Thanks *so* much for all your hard work. @@ThePedalGuy Hmm I am not sure I understand. Say I'm using a basic preamp pedal, set for an "edge of breakup" almost clean tone. I run my guitar into a Fuzzface, Comp, Univibe, Flanger, OD/Boost and Big Muff> into the preamp pedal then from the preamp to: chorus>delay>reverb then to the solid studio. I select the power amp tubes, mic configuration, and appropriate cab, with the drive on the power amp section at a fairly low level. Then from the emulated output to the powered pa. That's ok, yeah? I'm setting this all up today as my provisional DI rig, so far I've been using the Cerberus but have found it limiting (it's very large, no power amp or mic sim, and with the exception of a chorus, the mods are after gain which doesn't work for me). Hope that makes sense and thanks for your demos.
