Someone explained this to me years ago with a deck of playing cards. 4 suits of 13 cards, equalling 52 cards. Each card representing a week or 7 days.

I thought people would know that there only *364 Days* in the year with this simple equation: *52 Weeks × 7 Days = 364 Days*
@Mouchou_
@Mouchou_ Год назад
Except, every year the 1st of January is 1 day later in the week. 01/01/2022 was a Saturday, 01/01/2023 was a sunday, and so on, except for leap years.

@@Mouchou_ That would only serve to confirm that our calendar then wasn't created to align ourselves with the seasons. If you look at the Gregorian calendar, historically it was configured so that the Catholics wouldn't be celebrating Easter the same day Jews observed Passover.

I watched somewhere on yt that year starts on April 1st fools day. than we have 13 months 28 days each. it gives 364 days + 1day of begining the cycle = 365 days. So we live on earth but under moon cycles:)
@jeremiahcastro9700
@jeremiahcastro9700 5 месяцев назад
@@MichaelAngelo-yr4ox If it was that simple to reconcile the lunar year then we wouldn't be having issues now would we? Of course simpletons like yourself wouldn't understand...I mean a silly person like you should've recognized if it was just a matter of simple arithmetic then I should just be to say: *364 days ÷ 52 = 7* Or use whatever other numbers like 1, 2, 14, etc. to give a whole number.

Funny story: I pronounced sidereal as "side-reel" for about 2 years after reading about it (The rabbit holes of Kerbal Space Program). Thankfully I never had to say it out loud, as it was a subject none of my friends cared about and also was never part of any of my college courses. The first time I ever heard it pronounced was a couple months ago here on RU-vid while learning how equatorial mounts for telescopes work! Got to love that good old RU-vid education!

rotation is relative. the earth gains a day (if we define a day as a full rotation)in relation to the sun. but relative to the galactic center, the orbit of earth around the sun isnt a rotation.
@andyfer7716
@andyfer7716 3 года назад
The question is for revolutions ..not rotations. So shouldn't the correct answer be 1 revolution?

It could have been more clear, but revolutions still refers to circle A turning around it's center.

For the erroneous SAT to be related to terrestrial solar revolutions that implies distances between Sol and Terra are measured from the superficial facing of one but the center of the other instead of the centers of both. What's the deal?

Hmm I don't know if I agree because the question said rolls not orbits. Dont you only get the extra rotation with an orbit and not a roll? The earth could orbit around the sun without rotation/rolling but wouldn't balls interacting due to friction operate more like gears?
@AC-um2mk
@AC-um2mk 3 года назад
Does it make any difference?

I expected questions like this. The reason is because an Earth day “points” to the center of its rotation (the sun) just as the point we follow on circle A “points” to the center of circle B. As the Earth and circle A orbit, that “pointer” makes a full rotation. Gucci? (Admittedly this is difficult to explain. I’d suggest studying the latter animation of the two circles)

earth doesn't rotate and certainly does not go around a sun only 3000 mikes away, but its also not flat, but concave. look it up.
@Mouchou_
@Mouchou_ Год назад
Pretty sure it's not 364 but 366. Actually, we count 365 days of the same place on earth facing the sun every day, in the same way we count that the circle A spins 3 times around B. We forget to add the additional spin caused by the fact that the earth spins the same way around itself as it does around the sun, and same thing for the SAT problem. So that makes not 365 but 366 days a year, and not 3 but 4 revolutions of A around B.

This aint logical to me. If u have two ideal circles and a shared dot in which they meet, the formula is 2*r*pi for both of those lines ...if one of those is 3 times greater then ideally the solution should be 3....it is logical for the sun though
@BlueprintScience

It’s definitely a though problem. I had to sit and think about it for half an hour to convince myself
@ragerose9206
@ragerose9206 3 года назад
@@BlueprintScience the analogy is questionable to me...because what the shared dot is for circles example, the light is for the earth. We make surface and a dot equal in this analogy. A mix of 3d and 2d. The real question here is....would a stabbed broken car tire pass the same length of the road as a new complete car tire.

Huh. That's not at all intuitive to my brain. So instead, if we had two gears, one with 30 teeth and one with 10 teeth and did the same thing, rolled the small gear around the larger one one time, the small gear would turn 4 times? Now my head hurts.... Thanks for confusing us 😏
@jmannUSMC
@jmannUSMC 3 года назад
Maybe this will help. The 1:3 gear ratio you're thinking of is when the centers of those two gears are fixed, like in a bicycle. So that system has 2 degrees of freedom, each gear is only allowed to rotate, but not move in the x-y directions. Now the example given here by Blueprint, the bigger gear is fixed rotationally and in the x-y direction, but the smaller gear is free to rotate, but also move in the x-y direction, so now the system has a total of 3 degrees of freedom. So this problem kind of acts like how a planetary gearset works if you have ever seen one of those. I'm going to link you a GIF from Wikipedia that may visually help you see where the added rotation comes from. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ae/EpitrochoidOn3-generation.gif

@BigMaxTube

@@jmannUSMC Thanks so much for your input, but the animation only completes 3 revolutions as my brain expects, not 4....
@jmannUSMC
@jmannUSMC 3 года назад
@@BigMaxTube OK well try looking at it like this, how many times is the line from the center to the red dot pointing towards the left. If you are able to slow down the animation, you will see that it is pointing left every time it was gone through 90 degrees of its orbit around the larger gear
@jmannUSMC
@jmannUSMC 3 года назад
@@nk4j272 it's all what reference frame this is being observed at. You are observing the animation as if you are at the center of the small circle looking at the red dot so from that observation point it is 3 revolution. But now we will pull your point of observation to a different reference point. As the small circle orbits around the big one, look at the line drawn from the center to the red dot. Count how many times it is pointing directly to the left. Every time it is pointing left that is one revolution. Now you'll see it completes one revolution every 90 degrees of its orbit. Hope this helps.
