I'm down 94 pounds from November 6th 2019. You've helped a lot with filling the gap between my diet and knowledge of why I need what I eat. I haven't exercised at all either. November I was 353 pounds today um 258 and dropping. Once I'm under 250 I'm going to start exercising again. Thank you for the videos and helping as many people as you can!
Awesome job, when you do start exercising I recommend in the beginning to try to exercise about 4 times a week. Do a 30 minute anaerobic HIIT workout every other day (1 exercise, 1 rest) preferably resistance based rather than cardio. Once your muscles are more adaptive they will heal much faster and then you can start exercising every day if you want. Athlean-x is a great youtube channel if you want to learn what exercises to do and why they are great.
I love the fact that your a fact nerd, like me (as a Nurse) AND that as new research comes out, you switch things up. That takes a confident person. I got mad respect for you ❤
I just started Keto with a 18/6 fast and I use your videos and knowledge as guidelines to my plan. Two weeks in and I’m down 20 pounds. Can’t wait till the fat burning starts! Thank you for your hard videos and hard work!
please do not "dumb it down" the more in depth you are, the more it makes sense and the more i learn from watching your videos. the whole reason i am watching is to learn, not to be told what to do. if people want to skip to the bottom line, well, let them. at least they are following a good direction . please do not shy away from getting a little "nerdy" thanks
Olive oil + butter, and you can fry/sauté just about anything. It also tastes better than olive oil alone. I never fry or sauté with olive oil alone... always add butter.
I do this when scrabbling 3 eggs for breakfast/lunch but otherwise I enjoy the taste of olive oil and in a lot of dishes with strong flavours you don't taste it anyway.
@@michaeld9108 I agree. I've discovered I love the flavor of olive oil too! Really the only time I add butter to olive oil is to add a more creamy, salted character to it. Like when I roast zucchini.
Video idea: The benefits or detriments of consuming avacado pit! Theres some confusion and lack of information on this topic and I feel like you, Thomas Delauer, are the perfect person to adress this topic! Thank you for your content and for helping so many people!
I heard that it’s high in antioxidants. Actually, supposedly the pit has more of most of the health benefits that eating avocado flesh is supposed to have
It should be noted that bacon fat has a lot of oleic acid(a little over 40%), that same oil that makes olive oil and avocado oil good for you, and only a little bit of omega-6(about 10%), and it happens to be mostly the good omega-6, linoleic acid. The only real downside in the fat profile of bacon oil is that it's about 23% palmitic acid. But overall it's a very healthy source of fat.
I like the way you started with the question, 'What is your goal?' That is very powerful since there's not a one size fits all program, and we are in different places on our personal journey. Thank you for the concise information. I can see how this could have been hours long. This subscriber has decided to give sardines a try!! Thanks and have a great day!
Pork belly works well for me! Slow cooked in bone broth in the oven with the skin side out of the bone broth so it goes crispy! I sleep better and feel stronger in the gym the next day!
I literally did not notice 20mins passed by. Excellent information. Been following you and dr berg for about 7 months now! Never been better thomas. Never been better.
Not what i thought i was looking for but highly informative. I'm just staying out on low carb/intermittent fasting and this definitly was really informative
You seem to have some of the best presentations in the dietary realms I have seen. Great job!!! I would love for you to do a “ what I had to eat this week “ outline either on your website or RU-vid. Dr. Peter Attia did a great one a few years ago. Just a thought.
Thank you! Very useful 🙏🏼 as a video suggestion are you able to look more at female hormone imbalance/ polycystic ovarian syndrome and insulin resistance. I’ve suffered from this since my teens and after doing a lot of research I seen a low carb/keto diet is supposed to help if not reverse the symptoms and issues. I’ve been doing keto a couple of weeks and seen benefits. Thanks!
Amazing great quality video! It really helped me to understand fats and their nutritional profile better. Thomas, you never disappoint with your videos! Thanks!
Down from 280 to 209 this morning since January 1st. Watch all of these videos, super helpful. One issue I have is I HATE all seafood, tried it all and it makes me ill just to smell it.
Being doing the keto and intermittent fasting and I've drop 20 pounds in a month. No exercise. I have had more than a few cheat days with the carbs.im suprised at how well this has worked. Will be interesting to see how next month will go. Most interesting thing I have found is how easy it is to stave off hunger pains with some water or cup of black coffee
It can feel overwhelming, but I've been watching his videos for the past 4 years and once you get the hang of eating a diverse profile of fats you wont go back. You feel fuller too, and very little cravings!
I cannot do mct of any kind. It immediately goes right through me. I've tried powder and I've tried starting at a tsp and working my way up. No go! I can however eat goat cheese and LOVE it!!! Thanks Thomas.
Great info as always thank you 🙏. PS just started intermittent fasting a week a go already feel a difference feeling lighter more energy and my mood is improved is just great aver all thanks again keep up the good work.👍💪
This is so perfect. As I continue on my keto journey I’m always worried if I’m doing it right. So much info on the internet that it’s hard to pick through it. Thanks for this.
@Thomas Delauer I really appreciate all your content! It’s eye opening and motivational to me! You talk about intermittent fasting intermittently and I wanted to know a few things. When you fast every other day, during the days you are not fasting, do you eat at your BMR as a sort of re-feed or do you eat at a slight caloric deficit? Also, when breaking your fast, would adding apple butter to a rice cake be detrimental to the break? And what’s a good portion size for breaking the fast to keep it small? I would really enjoy seeing a video of what you consume during a fasting period, keto period, and regular day. One more thing lol, I’m a truck driver that usually works 12 to 14 hours a day and finding time to work out and meal prep and live life is hectic. Would you have any advice or strategy for people like me that work long hours but the jobs mainly sedentary?
A lot of people say olive oil for frying and extra-virgin olive oil for pouring on salads...(assuming you don't want to use lard, suet, tallow, ghee, Kerrygold (other butters are available - this is not an infomercial) for frying).
I just ate a can of premium Portuguese sardines packed in organic extra virgin olive oil. I also drank some of the olive oil when I was done eating. Am I doing it right?
Salmon are mostly farmed and the red is actully a dye , In Australia you cannot buy wild caught salmon , you can order your salmon pink or red from the farms. The salmon from farms are actully white flesh because of the conditions there raised in and full of antibiotics which is sprayed into the water pens on a regular basis. Sustainably sourced on the can's means farmed . Great advise on the fats ,always learning.
So, could you do an updated version of this video but like in-a-nutshell checklist style with examples. I've grown to trust your information and appreciate the science behind it.. Although, I'm a mom of three kids and one is a toddler and sometimes I just need quick suggestions that I can jot down when I'm tired to death of my current regular fats. Maybe do it like a list of a variety of suggestions followed by the nerd explanations (because I love the science behind it, but like I said.. three kids and the keto with all the time I spend in the kitchen and then homeschooling and then kids activities.. I save nerd stuff for when I'm not on the fly) Thanks in advance.
Honest walked into keto.blindly. I just read nutrition labels for what had high numbers of fat and calculate the percentages of serving sizes to 70%. Worked for me.
Perhaps he should have said “You shouldn’t cook with olive oil.” I stopped cooking with olive oil and butter once I got avocado oil, ghee, and tallow. All of those are better cooking oils than olive oil, and that is true.
Video requests: physically show us plated meals best for the day when breaking a prolonged 2 or 3 day fast... and variations for those doing it more regularly (weekly or bi-weekly). You say lean protein and plain cooked veggies. All i can come up with is steamed white fish and steamed cauliflower & brocolli for lunch. No idea what else to do... so end up with a keto meal for supper, as I don't know what else to buy to replace that with. TY for the extra help!
Videos like these are almost comic. They remind me of the old comdey bit where one comic talks about something and the other one says, ""That's good!" "No, that's bad because x, y, and z..." "Oh, so that's bad." "No, that's good because a, b, and c..." By the time it's over, you don't know what to think, which is what dietary radicalism tends to do to a person.
I think it is the type of olive oil. Regular olive oil uses chemical solvents to extract the oil from the olive Extra virgin does not and is anti inflammatory
A powerhouse of knowledge based on experiment. What he saying makes sense as he tries it on himself then he shares the outcome. Just look at his body, only a blind or stupid wont believe what he saying. This is called inference, practical knowlege. Good job delauer !
FYI I have been on Keto for 3 years and struggled with serious constipation. I have found Seed Probiotic takes care of it, but it’s pricey. Somewhere I read a recommendation for goat cheese and I’ve found that if I eat 28 g daily of the Kirkland Goat Cheese I have only smooth moves. Why does this work so well? (I would add its very mild flavor means I can use it instead of mayo in a tuna sandwich or in place of cream cheese in Boursin Spread and even mix it with 3 g cacao powder and allulose for a chocolate cream.)
Keeping them in the freezer has the added benefit of reducing how much you consume at a time. You develop the discipline of taking out to thaw just the amount you need.
keep a balance of omega 3 and 6 = 1:1 ratio, so salmon and olive oil is nice togeter, but with chicken dinner use coconut oil, butter or avocado with it instead of olive oil.
@@kinggg87 I don't believe it because of them, I believe it because that is a lot of what I have eaten over the last 13 months. I have lost 103 pounds & in better shape & feel better health wise at 38 than in my 20s or even teens. My thyroid meds have been cut by half & I went from prediabetic to an A1c of 4.7. My bone spurs no longer hurt & I have no other health problems.
@@kinggg87 you do you and we'll do us. I know what works best for me. If you cant be bothered to research it or experience it for yourself for a couple of months I couldnt give 2 shits. Enjoy life.
There's nothing wrong with EVOO for cooking ... and I suggest you look at the study done in Acta Scientific Nutritional Health Volume 2 Issue 6 June 2018, Evaluation of Chemical and Physical Changes in Different Commercial Oils during Heating. Smoke point and stability are not the same.
Had to laugh when you said macadamian nuts after olive oil. I take 2-3 TBSP olive oil a day and eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup macadamian nuts a day. I hate avacados but I do eat an avacado mayo. Chosen foods Avacado mayo is awesome! My fat of choice is that from a 12 oz ribeye flame grilled to medium rare.
Freakin awesome video!!!!!!! I finally understand the "oils"... Thank you so much...God bless you for all the work you are doing... I have hashimoto hypothyroidism and trying my best to loose weight to be healthy. I'm a fan of your work!!!
Does this guy EVER reply to questions under the Comments section?🤨 Jeez... I feel bad for those reaching out who've invested so much of themselves in his advice and recommendations. Yet, Mr. DeLauer rarely seems to respond, at least not that I've noticed. (Of course I realize one can't address every single question. Still, it wouldn't hurt to glance through the postings and be responsive to at least a few. Just sayin'.)
Maybe he reads them and uses the comments and questions as material for new videos. He probably is a very busy guy having a family and successful RU-vid channel to maintain. Also, if he responds or likes a comment, it moves it up and that comment becomes more popular on the comment section creating a more focused concentration of discussion on that particular comment. Abstaining from responding makes it to where he can get a better grasp of what his viewers are talking about without interfering. If you direct message him, he might respond that way.
Thomas has MILLIONS of followers... Does it look like he has time to answer alot of comments??? not to mention he responds to a handful of comments daily. go check out his other vids and you will see
@@aceTL87 Excellent points! Personally, I have no questions for him (I don't even follow a Keto diet). However, I feel bad for others who've left comments (some quite in-depth) who clearly are seeking further guidance or specific answers. Hopefully, they'll see your fabulous suggestion regarding direct messaging. Thanks so much, Davos!🤗
after 8months of strict keto my ldl cholesterol over double into the 300s! I asked if i should go back to fast food and alcohol haha. It really bummed me out today when i found out. I go back for blood work in 4months. Told me to stop bacon and red meats but i have half a beef on the way!
What would you recommend regarding the best fats to consume after having your gallbladder removed...obviously as I can’t break down fats as easily....great video BTW...
I love your videos and I'm a big supporter but sometimes we need you to get to the POINT! LOL, I'm sure 90% of us have no clue what your talking about! So please do a video on what EXACTLY we can and cant eat one fasting and get to the point lol, (no disrespect)
My wife and I visited USA this November and we were shocked by the obesity problem there. It was thoroughly disgusting to us, Euro-Asians. Not only was everyone obese, but the degree of their obesity was comically absurd. And the Americans seemed proud of it! They wore tight fitting clothing with loaves over loaves of fat stretching their fabric to its breaking point. They would eat while driving! Always some greasy looking cheeseburger or fried chicken and donuts, which were sold on every street corner in every city. These people would wait in their cars in lines outside the food stores and people would hand them bags of food outside the store window. I am not lying. The Americans were like hippopotamus. I was laughing the entire time but my wife became ill by watching them and we returned to Belgium three days early.
populations that have low issues with disease such as the Maasai, Kitavans etc have excessively low PUFA intake. Often they average between 1 - 4g of pufa a day with a mix of omega 3 and omega 6. So no you do not need lots of omega 3, if it isn't used it could oxidise (omega 3 is less stable than omega 6s). Aim for omega 3s from whole animal foods as mentioned but limit exposure to plant omega 6s if possible.
I ate about 5 tablespoons of coconut oil today, maybe a little more. :) The last three or so are becaus ei realised i have eaten a lot of meat protein but not very much fat! This morning after eating loads of meat and 3 eggs, my blood sugar went up to 17.9 mmol/L (it should be below 8 mmol/L) after eating. Not good!! Must try and eat more fat calories than protein and feel like my body is not wanting as much protein as i am giving it...
I have been documenting for a some time now, and I notice my body responds wildly to different fats and proteins. If I consume beef I end up blowing up like a balloon and trigger massive inflammation, but on the other hand if I have pork its exactly the opposite. Avocados give me a huge boost in mood and olive oil completely derails my weight-loss and triggers crazy fluctuations in inflammation and soreness. I made the switch to avocado oil and while it doesn't taste as good the effects have been huge. I honestly wonder why.
try "Cold pressed" extra Virgin olive oil.. better quality and not denatured... and try grass fed beef. it doesn't contain the inflammation markers like grain fed beef which is what swells you up.. good luck!
I like these big picture summary videos...I feel better using coconut oil/milk as my primary fat source for keto than olive and avocado...Easier energy source? Very anti inflammatory. Olives and olive oil and avocados (higher omega 6 and therefore more inflammatory in large amounts) are great for side salads, but not as good as the main event for me. I love sardines for breakfast. Salmon is also a fave. Ground Bison now my fave red meat. Walnuts, Brazil nuts, sunflower seeds, flax, and hemp seeds are faves. Interesting summary.
Hi Thomas - great videos - thanks for the science-supported information! I’ve been fat adapted for approximately 18 months and am male, in my early 50s, very fit but could stand to lose 15 lbs of fat. Here’s my problem, if I slip up and end up falling off keto for a night, it seems to take me several days to return to normal blood ketone levels (0.6 - 1.4). FYI - I’m typically keeping my carbs below 50 (not 30), tracking my calories and macros in MFP, and do practice IF (normally 12 hours, sometimes 16+), and can usually go 2.5/3 weeks without falling off the keto wagon. Also I’ve been doing 30 minute outdoor, instructor led boot camps (FBBC) 6 days per week. I know keto tends to be better for endurance cardio or higher (or very low) rep strength training vs HIIT type exercise. I do enjoy keto (fat is flavor!) and would love to get to your regiment of 8 weeks keto, 2 weeks healthy carb/non keto but seem to struggle with this. Any thoughts on the challenges to ketone recovery vs challenges staying on Keto? Also is keto the best plan for my exercise routine? Would really appreciate any feedback you may have if this makes sense for a video. Thanks for all you do!
In one of your videos for bulking on an IMF you stated that during IMF you shouldn’t consume the recommended daily caloric intake, but should divide that number by 24 and that would be roughly the hourly caloric intake for the duration of your fast. In another video for bulking on Keto you explain the importance of getting 0.8g/kg of protein with 75% fat intake. These values would conflict. My question is, which method is best for a clean bulk and is there a balance between the caloric hourly restriction that is the benefit of IMF and maintaining the protein/fat surplus that has been attributed to muscle gain in the research.
Hello my friend, I am a new subscriber. I really learn very important things from your video. I am on intermittent fasting. I want to know about the gym workouts during intermittent fasting for weight loss. From 111 I lose 12kg after that my weight is stopped and then I started intermittent fasting. Please make a video with the gym workouts during this period. Love from India.
It with toxic yeast makes aluminum is Ldl lipid aluminide. It also from toxic yeast making Lewis acids like aluminum chloride. This is the reason for inflammation. Steric acid is not in organic coconut.
@@frankiesfairyboytwinkclub Thanks for the info I'll definitely take a look at that... And you're correct I love fresh over canned..... canned is next best when I'm looking for a healthy snack on the road
