I've been driving 4wd machines for over 45 years. I have owned Jeeps, trucks, SUV's and the most capable and reliable was my 3rd gen 4runner. Even without the optional rear locker, which mine had, it was an amazing machine.

We owned a Nissan hardbody when I was growing up, learned to drive a manual on it at a very illegal age. Loved that truck, it was a tank!

My best friend still daily drives his 1992 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer. In Minnesota. After 30 years and it has yet to stop running or rust away. He can afford to drive anything he wants but actually chooses to drive his 30 year old Explorer, which he bought new. Absolutely amazing to me.

Hash Browns are a sacred thing to a Scotch-Irishman . . . . and you put nothing on them but a hint of pepper. Use the largest grating holes possible, cook with butter on a cast iron skillet, get them brown but not crunchy, a hint of pepper while cooking.

I love my Durango (99' 5.2 4x4 SLT). I bought it almost 10 years ago for $2500 and have beat it to death thinking it would be a temporary car and a throw away. This car has been indestructible. Sensors & Window regulators galore, but parts are so cheap ($10 for sensors & $35 for regulators). It is pretty good off road with the limited slip, torsion bars cranked up, and 31" KO2's. Very good in the snow. If it dies I will buy another. There is nothing in this size with 3 rows that is easy and cheap to work on.

Get a 88-98 GM truck before the price rise. Last of the good GM truck's. That's why David as like 4. I have a 95 single cab shortbed 4x4. Great offroad with a small lift and bigger tire's.

I forgot about the Navajo! I have a weird soft spot in my heart for the Mazda re-badges. I mean, maybe it’s too obvious but the Toyota Land Cruiser is totally the #1 top pick for overlanding and I’m surprised it didn’t get even a nod! I’d imagine because the buy-in price even for well used ones is pretty high. Also I think you guys are both wrong about the Mitsubishi Montero / Pajero, it’s the Gen 2 or 2.5 you want because they will go forever and some even came with an air locker! I had one myself until very recently and it was an awesome truck. You guys have me figuring out how I can convince my wife to let me get a Nissan Hardbody though, I grew up sitting middle on the bench seat in one of those helping my dad shift. It was an awesome little truck.
