Brother Grim is a force of nature. He is the earth spirit and represents determination. One Thing that I admire about how the character has been represented over the decades is that Brother Ben never quits training
@@MarvNARK and as such you bow out of the bro code, your partner is now free game, your jokes shall fall on deaf ears and no one will spot you at the gym. You are now simply "guy" and pitied for your lack of bros.
Sure the thing is only as durable as the material he's made of, but he's also an animated rock, with some kind of rock-like connective tissue etcetera. Biological organisms have an incredible resilience in absorbing different forces, etcetera. Two very different things happen when the hulk is punching a rock or if he's punching a living rock. You really have to think about the strength of metal that can flex vs metal that cannot.
the end result is the same, hulk smash, ben wont stop fighting, never will, but when your fighting someone with canonically infinite strength, your gonna lose, but standing up to a foe you know you cant beat, that is what makes a hero well, a hero. only time ben beats the hulk is with 1 hit, thats how the hulk is tho, you either hit him with everything all at once and end the fight, or you lose, ben is strong enough to 1 hit the hulk, but if the hulk is already angry enough, kick rocks.
@@robertjackson1813what about power man (Luke cage) sweet Christmas! Or novas “blue blazes”. Thors ol’ “by the bristling beard of Odin”. Wonder woman’s “suffering Sappho or merciful minerva. Johny storms “flame on” maybe beasts “oh my stars and garters. And even though it’s a joke it’s still bad Deadpool’s “maximum effort” Those are the ones that come to mind. Lots of silly and bad ones out there. Some still persisting.
The thing has always looked accurate in every form of media he's ever been in. Even the 2015 film, we're talking about his physicality not his level of nudity
People really don't understand just how powerful adamanium is. Wolv is no where near as strong as ben, but he could out last him any day. And Adamanium can easily cut through stone. It's basically a char with max str vs a char with max def, but who also has armor piercing.
Exactly this. Wolverine’s claws has cut through the Hulk’s skin, Namor’s skin, Thor’s skin, Colossus’s metal form, so why does this video assume that he wouldn’t be able to cut Ben?
Not to mention superior speed, agility, reflexes, regeneration, stamina, fighting technique etc. The thing has the strength to knock the Wolverine down but is vastly outclassed in other areas.
@@kriss3907 So true. Most people forget that on top of his insane Regen, and his almost indestructible skeleton, Wolv also is a super human on top of all that. Not as strong as cpt America, but no one is. Humans anyway
Great video. You covered the Thing very well. Ben Grimm also has couple of Master's degrees and training as an Air Force test pilot. Pretty top notch stuff. We always end up with comparisons between Hulk and Thing. Well, they have been tussling since the 60's. But as I've written before....yes, the Hulk is ultimately stronger, after all he's stronger than anyone in a protacted battle. But if you want a heavy hitter who's also very intelligent AND a team player, you pick the Thing for your team. If this a total destruction battle where you need a nuclear bomb, you pick the Hulk.
The book Marvel Anatomy: A Scientific Study of the Superhuman explains a bit of Ben's physiology. Also a few minor corrections and additions to this video. Ben can reproduce and it is confirmed by Stan Lee that Ben does have a junk in his rock form. Skadi is the daughter of Red Skull not Red Hulk. He can turn to human randomly for 1 week an entire year not 1 day. Ben has 3 weaknesses the person in the video stated two of them. The third weakness is that despite the fact that he's super strong and super tough he can still be affected by regular human illnesses.
You know I used to be irritated by people who thought he didn't or wondered if he still did. But after doing some research on my own, ifound here have been times where he's been completely but naked with a Barbie doll Anatomy, beyond the 2015 Fantastic Four film. So I can understand now why people would think that
The thing about the Thing that I love is his heart. He knows full well that he may lose the battle against the Juggernaut and the Hulk he still goes head up with them.
Ben is and always will be one of my Top 10 favorite superheroes of all time! And it’s honestly bc of his WILLPOWER. Nobody in the Marvel Universe even comes close to matching it! 🫶
Thing is one of my favorite heroes. His bravery makes up for his underclassed strength when going against superclass hitters. It is impossible not to root for him
I prefer the 6 foot Thing. Compared to the larger strongmen of Marvel, it was cool to see the "smaller" guy clobbering one of them. I also hate how the vary Wolverine's ability to cut. They've already stated that Adamantium is one of the strongest materials in Marvel, but Wolverine lacks the strength to penetrate a lot of objects or beings. So when I read the book and saw he slashed the Thing, I'm like he's tanked cosmic blasts and punches from the Hulk...but it is fantasy lol
i'm not sure if this question has been explored, but if the longer that the Fan4 are separated which results in their losing powers/abilities and becoming very vulnerable , then wouldn't Van Doom be negatively affected as well? Since he is never around these other four, but was present in their unsanctioned space flight and in the same solar storm, which had changed all of their DNA at the same time?
Van Doom isn't canonical to that supposed aspect of the FF's power. Victor von Doom (the source material, Earth 616, comic character) doesn't derive his powers from the same cosmic incident. Doom uses technology and sorcery. The movies that empowered him using cosmic rays did so to compress the story. Movies often give the archenemy an origin linked to the protagonists. All of that said, I've been reading FF for decades and was quite unaware (of forgot) that's a thing. I mean, it makes sense and would be a cool side effect, but I would think that's actually a writer's contribution that had since been ignored/reversed/retconned. I mean, let's all think about Thing's longing to be human. One would think if he could simply avoid Reed, Sue, and Johnny for 3 months or so and turn back to human, that he would have (even if he had to heroically give up his humanity to rejoin them for the greater good some other time). I need to look that "fact" up; but I can more see the powers becoming wonky after prolonged separation, not actually fading. It'd be a cool exploration that Thing gets weaker and becomes less mobile but doesn't change back; Reed gets more gelatinous and can't hold his shape properly; Sue starts to fade and forcefields weaken; and Johnny starts to randomly combust and/or takes longer to Flame off. What also makes me wonder if that's at all a thing is, Johnny was a solo act for months, and Ben was similarly only around Alicia, yet both had their normal levels of power the entire time in the most recent run.
If he was a rock he wouldn't be able to move, so his internal structure is just extremely dense but flexible enough so he can move, it would also play a roll in his strength and durability. There's your answer.
Great video, however let's remember his insane ability to hold his breath, with his increased lung capacity. Also with his rocky exterior, he is able to withstand extreme pressures.
Thing should have a little bird that lives on him like those rhinoceros birds. It would pick out the bugs and warn him of danger. The bird could have its own superpowers and backstory
Can you do Spider-Man anatomy (also I just want to add based off the comics and feats Spider-Man has proven to be stronger than the thing too just saying since Spider-Man has better lifting, striking, scaling and blunt durability feats
That 2 in 1 annual was kind of cheesy but that and the follow up where he's in hospital and all his foes team up to take advantage of him are still books i come back to time and time again
Their powers represent what SOME ancients regarded as The 4 Elements… • Earth (Ben Grimm) • Air (Sue Storm) • Fire (Johnny Storm) • Water (Reed Richards)
You know what I really despise about the Thing, how is it he gets his powers indirectly from Galactus, still not have enough power (strength) to go the distance with the Hulk. You would think those cosmic rays would have really given him a slight edge over the Hulk Marvel should revamp this.
19:43 Not a day; he is in human form for a week each year. That's also why he timed his honeymoon with Alicia corresponds with that cycle, so he would have a week with his wife as a human being, and possibly try to have kids. Of course the Hulk showed up and ruined that plan, as Ben was out like a light for a week from his injuries.
There's a comic called Timeslip Collection. In this comic the FF are able to maniplute the flour classical elements in tandem with their powers. Ben has Earth, Johnny has Fire, Sue has Air, and Reed has Water.
How does Hulk run on fumes? The Hulk has unlimited power because the madder he gets the stronger and bigger he gets as portrayed in the comics and only once in the movies like in the first Hulk where Betty Ross states "your only fueling his rage" that's why I can't stand a lot of the MCU movie scenarios they leave the Hulks true power out of them, the Thing is a power dynamo but the Hulk is power incarnate with limitless power.
strenth and durability arent the same. thing is tough as nails but is not invulnerable wolverines claws only real limitation is how strong he is on the power scale in comparison to thing
I've the quickest answer, whatever the writers want him to have underneath that 🪨 hard body of his is what he's gonna have. Lol Also, she said THINGS eventually reverted to his original state,YOU GET IT????
He was exposed to gamma rays more then once... I don't know who makes these videos they need to go back to the 70s and catch up.. and wolverine actually got to the meat
You are mistaken, lady. You did not do your research properly. Ben CANNOT reproduce. The twin boys you mentioned from Earth X continuity were created from clay by Alicia, who gained the power to bring clay statues to life.
The willingness to put yourself on the line, for the sake of others, is what defines a hero. It's all about heart. How much you're willing to endure, and how much you're willing to push back for the right reasons. And by those measurements , Ben Grimm, before the cosmic rays and after, is a genuine hero. A true idol of millions.
