“Bring back buttons”! If I use my mobile while driving I’m in for a £200 fine and 6 penalty points but I can legally use my cars touchscreen, why, it’s the same thing. My concentration isn’t on my driving, I’m trying to find an icon so I can switch heated seats on or off! Buttons are easy, you soon memorise their position and function.

ssdmcleod My Hyundai has a plug in pump with a chemical additive instead of a tire. Surprisingly, it has worked for me in real life situations. Besides, the less weight in my car is ideal. When I take it to the track, I can do 80 mph instead of 75 mph.

Here's my peeve. Now that dashes are always illuminated, many people don't realize their exterior lights are still off come dusk. It would be an easy fix to have an alert or for the lights to come on automatically once the ambient light goes low. If you have any sway with the car companies, please bring this up in your channel.

Agree with most of your pet hates, but my biggest hate is on BMW cruise control when driving in Eco mode. You set a speed of say 60mph and the car sets a plus or minus 5mph, presumably to avoid adding extra fuel or gear change on hills? You come to a hill and the car starts to slow down. The car travelling behind you pulls out to overtake. Once he's alongside, the BMW realises that the hill requires more fuel and then quickly accelerates to 60mph leaving the overtaking car stranded in outside lane, flashing his headlights and several offensive gestures!

Love the fact it’s almost all electric systems as I completely agree. Since when has turning on an ignition been difficult. Also driving with keys in your pocket is uncomfortable. Why can’t the driver determine if it is raining or dark and turn on the lights/wipers as necessary. Drives you nuts.

Stop-start comment was spot on, feel exactly the same (been drivng 25yrs) Autopilot? Why would you want your car to drive for you? I love driving, the attention and the finesse needed and even the hazzard involved, it all part of the fun. I will never give up on that otherwise rather hop on a bus or take a cab.

What we need is stop start on cruise ships. Back in the 80s we had stop start on our powerstations, but they stopped for some reason. Maybe we can bring that back and save the whales or something. Or save Wales. Whatever.

Actually, never mind the list of petty gripes I have in my other comment, this is the real one: The fact that cars don't automatically force 40mph everywhere cretins to drive somewhere approaching the 60mph speed limit on country roads. Some sort of seat-based electric shock system linked to GPS that judges when you are driving 20% slower than is necessary.

Don't forget lane departure warning, the first couple of times I thougt I got in an accident. The steeringwheel starts shaking violently and makes a terrible rubbing noise. Thank you Mercedes for scaring me every time!

the things I hate the most: 1- Keyless entry. 3- Electric brake instead of hand brake. 2- Using cameras instead of side view mirrors. (This is concept and not used in real production car but still. ex: The new McLaren hypercar)

+1 on keyless entry. Most annoying on rentals where you haven’t worked out all the controls between airport and hotel and have to ask the desk to go check if your car is locked.

Stop/start, drives me nuts, the prompt telling me I have to drive the car “immediately” as the battery needs charging. What ? I’ve just turned it off after driving the bloody thing 50 miles. So much for reducing my carbon footprint !!

Funny, the auto stop ("urban safety"?????) feature on my Volvo has worked pretty well. It's only happened once and I was pleased it did. But the REALLY ANNOYING thing was that for about five minutes afterwards the dash displayed a text that said something like "urban safety parking was deployed". Notice me, I've done something good. Why not just replace it with something along the lines of "this accident preventing breaking was brought to you by Volvo"?, or perhaps allow a variety of smugness settings to be chosen? Oh, and the satnav sounds like Theresa May.

-Touchscreen functions for everything, like Tesla does. Keep the A/C and audio controls and any basic function manual, there is no need whatsoever to replace them. -Cupholders everywhere. Another stupid US trend that has infected the rest of the car world. -Plastic chrome. Every switch that looks like metal should also be made out of metal. It's downright sad watching premium brands like RR and Bentley cutting costs by putting these into their entry level cars (Ghost and Continental).

This is why I bought a Mazda ND new in 2018. Manual gearbox, traditional handbrake, no parking sensors, no backup camera, no headlight washers, no start/stop, no ridiculous safety features. Just a simple no fuss cheap roadster.

I have something worse than all this you have raised. It was an idiotic thing that VW Sarron had a few years ago and that is if you get a motor stop you can't just restart the car. You have to remove the key from the ignition switch, press key to lock the doors and then unlock the doors, now you can insert the key into the ignition lock and start, it can not do otherwise. Imagine then that I get a motor stop in an intersection where there is a lot of traffic and have to do what I described above. Since this was a rental car I did not know about this, but I only try to start over but it does not work and imagine the time it takes to figure out how to start again, while cars around whistles that take when I stop everyone.

When i first picked my new fiesta up, i forgot it had that stupid stop start on it and thought it had a fault instead and i kept dipping the clutch and revving it up every time it wanted to cut out! To my credit, i caught it every time and then twigged what it was. I'm so happy i never ended up going back to the garage and roaring at them that it wont fucking tick over! Also those touch screens, i cant press the right buttons on them whilst driving, my finger bounces off, i absolutely detest them. I like my cars like my music, analogue.

Totally agree with the Stop&Start and auto windscreen wipers. On the other hand, I have no problem with the keyless entry, I even love it when it is properly done. On my Renault, I touoch the door handle to unlock the car, no need to take the key out of my pocket (very useful when you carry something). When locking the car, I just close the door and walk away. No need to touch the handle etc. Plus the car make a beep and flashes with the hazard lights for you to know it locked. And when combined with automatically folding mirrors, you always know whether the car is locked (just take a look on the car. mirrors folded = locked, mirrors unfolded = car unlocked). For the "gas station issue", based on my experience, the side on which the fuel cap is depends on the "nationality of the brand" you drive. On continental european cars, corean and american cars, it is on the right side, on british and japan cars it is on the left side (so on the outside of the road in the country of origin of the brand). The exception are LVCs where the cap is usually located on the driver's side based on the cuntry of origin.

Ahh, auto collision detection ! Back in the day I had an S600 Mercedes fitted with version 1.0 of radar cruise control ... total disaster ... it once pre-tensioned the seats belts, bolt up-righted the seat position, set off an alarm and ensured that in the inevitable resulting panic the slightest touch of the brake pedal initiated a full emergency stop procedure, and all because an HGV pulled into middle lane ahead of me on a motorway curve whilst i was adequately piloting the car down the outside lane FFS

Check out Doug Demuro’s Hyundai Pallisade review. Cameras in the dash board to save turning your head left or right and then lane merging avoidance braking on top.How many Hyundai drivers wear neck braces? The worst? Some megaphone to help you tell the kids in the back to f’n shut up. How does the car drive? Pretty rubbish.

Spot on chaps!. I assume indicators or lack of, electronic parking brakes and cars with HVAC controls hidden in a menu on a touchscreen will be featuring in part 2!? Re fuel flap location, you'll find it is on the opposite side to the exhaust tailpipe. The exception to this being exhaust outlets on both sides of course, these cars always have the arrow on the fuel gauge. Cheers, Chris

Cars with Stop/Start technology will be fitted with AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries which have a higher cranking capacity and are generally more robust than standard "wet" type batteries. Also, they will have different starter motors and heavier-duty starter ring gear to account for the extra use. I agree with you guys as I turn it off too...

Agree with weird windscreen wiper waves (eg Mercedes E Class) and auto wipe vs intermittent wipe. Agree keyless entry. Agree stop/start crazy crap creations. Agree Petrol Filler cap issues, although, I’ve noticed that most cars have their filler caps on the drivers side of the vehicle weather you’re driving a LHD or RHD vehicle (except Japanese RHD vehicles that usually have the petrol filler cap on the passenger side, which is bloody annoying). One thing I like about the new laser guided collision detection systems is that the laser technology must be highly compatible with those hand held laser speed guns the police use. And guess what? Yep, you guessed it, the Collision Avoidance system causes the laser guns to jam or return an interference signal. So long live the new LASER technology collision avoidance systems... hehehe... (Please Note: Many older and still current collision avoidance systems use radar radio frequency technology; which DOES NOT affect police laser speed guns. So check the system you have before “beans” approaching the local constabulary at a speed trap).

Never had problems with keyless. Lexus won’t open unless you’re within three feet. Never got confused whether it’s locked or not either. I do like cars with a physical button on the handle to press to lock/unlock but don’t mind the systems where you just grab the handle and it opens.

Shagged your bumper pmsl ! Agree with all your hates. I had a Ford Kuga for a while and with auto wipers on it would wipe in any weather if I went under a bridge!! Absolute shit! Now have a 3 series Beemer and the stop start is annoying as ..... I believe though if I am courageous enough with a laptop and EDM port I can code it out.

So basically you hate pretty much any advance in the last 20 years, just like me. Although I stopped buying new cars around 15 years ago. I hate fingerbrakes, the odd substitute of handbrakes. I also hate the steering feel of most modern cars, along the gear lever feel. It can’t be more detached and non-mechanical.

On the Volvo, you have the collision warning set to maximum sensitivity, you can easiliy change it in the menues. That setting is for when you lend the car to your kids

Love it Totally agree with you on auto technology and wipers My Peugeot has them 1. The blades open to pillars not wipe 2. If I use jet wash it wipes dry window first taking mms off my blades 3. Daylight but car puts full Beam on say drivers go past ye mouth “stupid &£&8 got full beam on!! 😝 My biggest gripe is when u buy a car thinking it’s one of a kind Days later you see same car on the road passing you same model etc.. then u look in yer rear mirror and see it’s got a private hire taxi plate cable tied to it 😝🤪🤬

The start/stop is annoying, who knows how long the starter will last,? my Bmw will stay off once you push it, my Porsche resets itself every time so I drive it in sport mode so it doesn’t shut down , and it’s a manual so that tech fools you into thinking you stalled it!

When the car has to tell you that your shopping bag in the passenger seat needs his seatbelt on and you can’t turn it off, then place your one shopping bag in the foot well where the contents start to empty when your first corner occurs

I totally agree with all of these that I’ve experienced. Years ago I had an e46 convertible, I’d never had parking sensors before. I took the car for a full service at bmw after a month or so of owning it even though it wasn’t due, just to make sure everything’s tip top. After collecting it I pulled up by a cash point and very nearly crashed because my rear parking sensors didn’t go off. I had the roof down and clearly could see but in the space of a month I’d got used to the sods. Bmw had left the wing mirror adjuster on the passenger side setting and that disables the parking sensors. Wtf??? That’s absolutely ridiculous!!!! What’s more disappointing is the fact that I’d become worse at parking because I’d developed a dependency on technology in only a month.

LOVED IT, you see our problem is our generation didn't come from the playstation era, so all these tech gadgets don't impress us and a lot of "drivers" today buy cars because of the pretty lights and auto everything, because it's "cool" manufacturers say we are just old people who don't understand tech...loved the co2 comments and stop start, the next gen with mild hybrid just got a whole lot more complicated.. happy days :-)

I agree with most of your comments, but stop start is more intelligent than you state, even a 20 year old VW lupo 3L has a system that measures the voltage of the battery, and if you put the heater control to more than 75%, it will not stop. My Lupo 3L from 2001 has done 350000km on the same starter motor, so it can work.:-)

Brilliant! I’m shocked and delighted that the used BMW 328 i estate here in the U.S. let’s me turn off stop/start permanently in Comfort mode. Plus the system doesn’t work at all in Sport and Sport +.

I LOVE my Auto Full Beam headlights in my Toyota Tundra and Lexus RX350. They work FANTASTIC and save me a ton of headache. I have never had a problem with mine, nor experienced any of the symptoms you discussed. Maybe you should try the Toyota products?? Now, auto wipers are another story...hate those!! I have a love/hate relationship with parking sensors sometimes. But I FOR SURE LOVE my Rear Cross Traffic Alert sensors on both my cars. Most modern motors in my experience have a little arrow in the gauge, indicating which side the filler cap is.

Offset numplate are fine. As long as the car symetrical without it.

Following a vehicle with Indicators integrated into the centre of the rear light, so when it breaks you don't notice they're signalling.

Ha brilliant. This is why my daily is a 2007 BMW...most of this tech isn't on it and I'm glad.... Another annoyance is why modern cars have sooooo many gears! 6 max please.

LOL: Lease car due back next week , just reversed into a skip -- parking sensors didn’t work , laughed so much, having seen your video. Loved your comments agreed with video, what about auto handbrakes ?
