Theo and Bee gave up their busy city lifestyles in 2014 to explore alternative living, and have lived in vans and boats since then without looking back! Along with their cat Ginjey Bear they have been driving around the world in their self converted Sprinter van. However, when the global pandemic hit they began converting their abandoned stone barn in Central Portugal to turn into a wonderful tiny stone cottage. Along the way, they have rescued a playful cat called Furrnando and have a wonderful flock of Chickens!

I can understand that looking on video, it’s actually around 3 times bigger than my last one. I guess as I’m 6,3 I make it look smaller than it is. There is a reason for this one though, it goes everywhere on the property, anything bigger would not fit in many locations due to the size between the trees. I haven’t found anything this cart do for me yet 😎

Theo, I know the feeling of having a bad back, I've got 3 crushed discs in my lumbar region, all of which are from military service in my youth, but we do stupid things when we're young , and pay for it in our latter years, all the best to you and Bee

Bee, you remember Alaska I'm sure. Find some netting or curtains if need be and cut out a circle and put it over a hat or sun visor and let it fall to your shoulders. It will keep the flies out.

The downside of the beautiful summers in Alaska was the gnats. Changing her hair color back to brown might help a bit too, they're drawn even more to blonde/light colored hair. At least that's what locals in Kodiak told me when I complained that they seemed to swarm around my head more than other people. Sometimes it was so bad I'd light a cigarette and just hold it because the smoke repelled them.

In Australia, we use a broad brimmed hat, with old mosquito netting cut to gather up around at the hatband when on - and can be left to hang down to shoulders... the lower edge can also be gathered up too if you want... size and shape as desired... it's a kids necessity when working outside... 'Flies just carry you off' out here...!!! Hope it helps... Blessings to all ❤

There is nothing more therapeutic than having a thorough clearing up and burning all the wood and branches,one thing that has amazed me is how good the wood is from the trees that got badly burnt,it seems the bark is burnt but the tree itself can be chopped up for fire wood,what strange thing to say but true,😂 good to see you both getting on with things,❤

As far as your back goes, real focus has to be put on this issue because everyone here would be surprised to find out what you do on a daily basis includes your back!! As a relative 'newcomer" to your channel, just watching and listening to the aftermath of fire devastation....... Oh wowzers! I have been in 2 close calls (evacuated once), just from my home, certainly not from a homestead. There is one awesome consolation though....the re-growth of plants is astounding. Not so much the human/animal fear of it recurring. Best wishes from Table Mountain side (Cape Town, S.A.) & looking forward to following you guys P.S. core & back muscle strengthening.........

It is customary to join the cut bushes and branches together to form a 5 m wide hedge on a line that is to become a boundary. The hedge will be 2 to 3 meters high, and many little animals will be happy to hide in the hedge. After a while, herbs and bushes will grow out of the hedge. The hedge is then called old wood Hecke or Benjes Hecke, Herrmann Benjes has written a book about it.

Bea, I got a “stylish” netted sun hat from Amazon. It also has a detachable fabric piece to shade your neck from the sun. The flies drive me crazy so even if I look silly, I’ll still be enjoying my property.

For your back pain: Lie on your side with your legs straight and lift one leg up (keeping it straight) and then to the back, while tightening your muscles. The foot should be pointed upwards. Try to hold this pose for as long as you can, and repeat on both sides a couple of times per day. Another exercise that helps me a lot is to lie on your stomach with your legs straight and push with your toes into the mattress while contracting the legs and glutes. I was prescribed Vimovo with Mydocalm, 1 tablet every 12 hours, for 2 weeks during a flare-up. Additionally, I use an electric massager with diclofenac on my back, glutes and legs. I hope this information helps.

Theo if you can get epsom salts in Portugal, its very helpful for sprains. Simply add a couple of cups to your bath. You can also make a poultice and put it directly on the injured areas. Feel better soon.

Hi Theo, you should just go to a local welder, have them weld up some 1 1/2” or 2” square tubing, make a clamp on 5 prong device that clamps onto your bucket. It is essentially 5 pallet forks welded together with spacing and this will enable you to pick up brush and debris. A much cheaper version of a grapple. For the size of your tractor, this would work well for you. Good luck.

Bee. I think that you should get a bee keepers hat. It has a hat with a veil on it that will protect you from insects. I just bought one for my mother for when she goes out to garden. Just a thought. Hope you both continue to heal. Thanks for all your work. Have a great Easter Day.

Although it would add to the overall cost (and that's unfair), could a local machine shop cut out and replace bent steel, redo welds, and repaint? At least you would still have a grapple sized for your tractor.

Me again. Watching Theo cut the tree trunk using the grabber, it reminded me of the Eucalyptus harvest around here (Tomar). From a cab, one man can angle a grappler to hold the trunk, and a saw attached to the grappler cuts the tree, the grappler then flips 90 degrees, runs the trunk up and down it's length and strips off stray branches before cutting the trunk into 2.4m lengths (the width of the flat-bed). All in less than 1 minute! Maybe you could adapt one to your needs

I think you need a refund for that substandard grappler. I you sourced one in the UK would it fit your machine. You need a tens machine. Whenever I get kinked up I get it out and hook myself up with a heating pad and it works well. Maybe a back support🙂👍👍🇨🇦 will help protect your back.

Do you have places to create Hugleculture beds? Take your burnt wood, layer it on the ground (or in a trench), add organic matter to that (leaves, grass, bedding, etc) and top with soil to create a raised bed. Good job!

Hello, Bea! I use a bit of Vicks Salve to keep flies away from my nose. Just a bit along upper lip under your nose. I hope it works for you. Flies are the worst😮!!

Theo, follow the hot soak with a timed 15 minute ice pack. This will reduce swelling and focus healing.

Theo try a cool pack also. If you have inflammation which is heat and swelling a cool pack really helps.

have you tried looking/contacting an experienced agricultural welder fabricator? Ask someone who owns a JCB who they use to have teeth welded back on their buckets. If they can do that they can weld a grapple together.

Hi guys, another great vid full of progress and happiness, Theo have you seen how much your body gets shaken around while driving that tractor and I suspect in the UTV also, take it from someone who ignored the need for healing and is paying for the consequences, permanently, as for the grappler, is the cost of importation prohibitive? Time lapse video is just the best. I wish all of my projects could go at that speed. It looks like the grapple is only meant to pick up small brush piles. :(
