A woman who’s born beautiful is like winning the lottery, didn’t have to do anything to earn it.

For me, the main thing that young men should remember is that self improvement should be done for one self, not to impress others, especially women. Trust me when I tell you that "self improvement for the sake of others" is an all consuming endeavour that if (and when) it fails to achieve the result you expected, like impressing a woman, you'll fall into a cycle of depression that it can be hard to get out of.

It saddens me when I'm talking to a high IQ woman and I bring up a topic like politics, life philosophy, cultural differences etc. and I see her eyes just glaze over. And then I find out she has no hobbies. There's a lot of wasted potential out there.

Thank you for pointing out that much of men's behaviour is motivated by a desire to appeal to what women want. It raises very interesting implications for women who are admonishing men for their 'toxic masculinity' and lecturing men on the myriad of ways in which they need to change. As I've said before, if you want to change men's behaviour, you first need to change women's preferences. And men are generally smart enough to know that what women say they want is often an unreliable indicator of what they actually want.

The thing is woman care more about how they look than how they act

As a young female, I have also noticed a lack of resources for self improvement for women beyond vanity. Nothings wrong with that however, a well rounded personality and mind are just as important in my opinion. So although there’s a lack of resources, these videos are still great for me and I can correlate them into my psyche and life. Thanks for making these great videos! 😌

The main problem with men's hierarchy of selection is that selecting beauty over intelligence is that you only engage in sex for less than an hour every day or so, but, you have to live with them for the other 23 hours every day.

The ironic thing is that us men have historically shaped this "value" in women. It is us who put such a premium on looks alone so they never have to develop intellect or personality

I only got one piece of dating advice from my Dad, and it was brilliant: "stop salivating over the prettiest girl in class. Everyone else is salivating over her as well, so she has too many options. Look around and see who might be actually interested in you." Thanks Dad.

The point she makes is (paraphrasing slightly) "if women just decided one day that the skill of being able to walk on your hands was attractive in a man, imagine how many gyms across the country would be offering classes teaching guys how to walk on their hands." The point being that large swathes of men will change their behavior on the demands of women.

My ex explained it to me: How you look is a form of social power and a lot of women focus on style and their sexuality to enhance their social ability. She basically explained that a first impression with someone put together makes a much stronger impression than being a slob in I’ll-fitting clothing and no style (which was her not-so-subtle hint to ditch the anime t-shirts and ‘just woke up’ look I was rocking at the time). I’ll admit, when I look good, I feel good, which changes how I interact with people. It’s powerful stuff. That said, when I was young, the idea of not being intelligent would have shook my core. As an older dude, it seems a lot of dumb people are having a bit easier time with the whole life thing as they aren’t overthinking the hell out of every damn thing... X-/

Throughout history men treated women like an object or a possession, beautiful women had some value, and more chances to do better in life if they were beautiful, even now beauty is highly valued. Now a days things seems to be out of balance, because women don't need men anymore, and are not willing to compromise. I am a traditional 48 year old woman, and it is sad to see the division between men and women. I believe that men and women have different qualities that complement each other, and different doesn't mean anything bad, on the contrary. Sadly, the trend is women not wanting to compromise, men prefer to play computer games and stay single, marriage is a thing of the past, and that could create a very lonely future for both sexes.

Just to add to what you are saying. "Physically Ugly" men live in the reality of potentially finding that all their self improvement can lead them to, is becoming a "beta provider". They get rejected by beautiful women until these women hit their wall and have had multiple sexual partners and are no longer able to play the dating game to the same extent. That is a raw deal indeed. So in regards to men, men have to take into account that their sexual market value usually consist of both physical standards (height, jaw line, well built) AND self improvement (career, status etc). If women were the only ones benchmarked by looks, you would find loads of women clinging to the 5" semi-ugly guy reading philosophy or the 20 year old nerd doing an it-startup. Even if those guys had a tremendous status in their community, they still do not rank high.

As social media evolves, I think this concept of high value guy with confidence, ambition and everything is improving for a more "look based" preference. What I'm trying to say is that as men want a beautiful woman who is interesting and intelligent, women want a man who is sucessful and also good looking. Both sides are more demanding and the competition is going through the roof.

I once dated an incredibly attractive 20 year old woman. Very high SMV. After being with her for 3 months, I had to break up with her because I couldn't stand how dumb she was. Her lack of any intelligence was ultimately a turnoff for me.

In fairness to women, I think many men would also struggle to decide between being granted looks or intelligence.

This is a good way of indirectly asking a woman what she values in a man more in terms of attraction: Intelligence or looks. Women value the looks of a man over his intelligence.

The root of the problem here is civilization, dictating the outcome of relationships between men and women. Little to no resources in society=roles go back to their natural state. Lots of resources available in society= things go confusing and bad.

This is amazing stuff. I’m in a long relationship, and happy, and have kids. But I wish that RU-vid existed when I was 19, there are amazing advice and insights in everyone of your videos.

There definitely are female focused improvement channels. They are not necessarily marketed as 'be a better person to attract me', more so 'be a better person so you can be more mature and emotionally stable'. They have more of a mental health focus then the men's versions do. Many of them do talk a lot about relationships, both romantic and friendships.

This ignores the aspect of the men who are born TALL with a strong JAW, and overall a good looking FACE. If anything those guys win because they inspire the raw arousal from the woman. These guys coping with earning a big salary, inventing stuff, etc are just compensating for not having it all naturally. If the naturally good looking guy puts even an ounce of effort into all of those other things too, it's OVER for the uglier guy. The world is more deterministic than we want to believe.

The problem is, women continue to have the same attitude towards attracting men even after deciding not to have children or reaching an age where they can have children. You don't want children, so why do I have to show off my good genetic?

I think most people would choose beauty over intelligence because you can acquire knowledge and through ideas possess intelligence. Those not possessed of physical beauty will find it challenging to acquire. You can sculpt your body, you can transform your face surgically, employ fashion and cosmetics to enhance presentation, there are multi-billion dollar industries dedicated to just such endeavors. Does physical beauty encompass our meaning of beauty, does it go no deeper? In my opinion, a truth of biology is that typically Men are expected to acquire value above what they were born with while Women are typically expected to cultivate and protect the value they were born with. Even Men born with a certain degree of physical mating value are expected to increase their value in other tangible ways to become valuable mates. While it can be an important enhancement for Women to increase their own tangible value, we see many examples of Women perfectly able to successfully navigate life by protecting and maintaining the physical mating values they grew into, without the requirement to increase tangible values, as a Woman can freely choose to elect a mate to provide for a family (at least, she can currently, as it seems like that is the only freedom social norms champion denying Women). Where Women typically go beyond the physical mating values they posses is in cultivating the intangibles that make up the qualities Men possess in less demonstrative quantity - the physical combined with the intangibles is what defines Beauty. Men and Women are differently yet complimentarily abled. Nature intended we be two sides of the coin of human experience. It seems to me we have been losing sight of this over the course of the last 50 years. Looking forward to your next.

Optimistic note: A smile adds a couple points to a woman's looks. Then longer term a good personality (constency, effort, etc.) adds more. And even longer term - loyalty adds even more. I’m going to challenge your conclusion, Alexander, that blame for the superficiality of humans rests on the shoulders of men and women equally. I’m actually surprised that you reached this conclusion given the title of this video and your solid understanding of evolution. You claim that men are superficial because they select women based on physical attractiveness and that women are superficial because they are primarily concerned with their physical attractiveness, and that this is equally the responsibility of both sexes. Sexual selection hasn’t been an even playing field for the bulk of human evolutionary history. Although nature has been a cruel mistress when it came to exerting pressures on both sexes, sexual selection had tilted heavily toward the preferences of females. Female beauty has only been selected for by a small group of high status males at the top of hierarchies (those men who have options because they have managed to attract a variety of them). Male sexual selection has only existed in the wake of female sexual selection. The evidence of this is found in male behavior and human attractiveness. If sexual selection were equal between the sexes, we would expect humans to be as physically attractive as men are ambitious, but that’s clearly not the case. Most men are disposed to ambition in one way or another. Most people are not beautiful. And let’s not ignore the fact that women are more selective of male physical attractiveness than men are of female physical attractiveness. A woman always has more options than a man. If she has a choice between a rich, intelligent, ugly man and a rich, intelligent, handsome man, she will choose the latter. Some man will want a rich, intelligent, and ugly woman; the problem is that she feels entitled to choose a higher status man, but the higher status man has no need for her wealth and intelligence because he’s already been forced to get those things in order to be sexually successful. Women don’t experience that pressure. Those women who want to have children get them simply for being born with a uterus. Putting on makeup and doing their hair can slightly improve their prospects for minimal effort. Of course, human culture has gone through some extreme changes of late, with women entering the workforce, but this still holds true in most cases. My claim is not that women are to blame and men aren’t. I don’t believe it makes much sense to speak in such terms. The most reasonable thing to say is that natural selection has molded us into a species wherein the sexes perform functions disproportionately. Finally, low status men don’t get to select women based on attractiveness. What choices they have are illusory and only exist in the small wake created by female selection. Most men take what they can get. High status men have more options, but they will continue to select beautiful women. They will want their children to have a better chance at reproducing as well, and physical attractiveness helps both sexes.

There is nothing wrong with not being intelligent. You are given what intellect you have pretty much at birth according to the science. I would be attracted to a pretty girl who might not be all that bright but is personable and kind. Now dumb and evil is another matter. I know the video is more a what would you rather be video, but both choices have their merits as long as other positive accompanying traits are present.
