The first time I got the Deathstar I thought you could use it to blow up enemy ships during a battle. I ended up blowing up the planet all my ground forces were on.
ORaWGeroenimo why you don’t do that all the ships that at the moment of the planet explosion that did have shield on (at least half shield streanght ) will take no damage (or just a mere 5%) and those that where with less than 50% shields take a 25% damage, if a capital ship is without shield during the explosion a 50% damage, if it was a cruiser without shields 65% damage, if it was any other class of ship without shields a 75% damage, and Every fighter (exept the millenium Falcon and slave one) would be obliterated from the explosion, it would create a very interesting post detonation battle scenario, maybe this would also reshape the battlefield, spawning some asteroids fields to make navigation more difficult (The executor and other super star destroyers would take no damage because of the sheer scale of the shield and hull power (I am talking if their shields where down)
well the damage over time cloud could work, but not that it would wipe out the whole fleet. it should work based on shield strength and ship size. shields would absorb most of the damage from 1:43 to 2:55. but once the shields give out, here's were it gets complex, damage taken from the blast is dependent on the size of the vessel. the smaller the ship, the faster the ship takes damage and the opposite is true for bigger ships. I.E. A corvette would be torn to shreds in a mere few seconds, while a Star Destroyer would have 25%-50% of its health knocked off by the time its over (provided it hasn't received too much damage prior). heroes will be exempted from this, of course. but also think the added visuals, seeing parts of a ship's hull turn white hot as the intense heat from the blast washes over it like a tidal wave. think of it as a last resort tactic for the Empire.
Yeah, at that rate, and being that close, would just harm the Death Star more than benefiting it. Also a tad too large, its size is under a small moon....
Westborne That's false, and yes we do know the planet. The planet is more than likely Bestine, because the video has it right there. According to the referenced article on the Star Wars wiki, Bestine's diameter is 6,400km while the Death Star is only 120km (based off legends, which EAW is based in). As far as we see here, the Death Star is too large.
The DS-2 Battle Station would be closer to a fitting size but DS-1 no, this is far too large and too close but I do like the visual effects and attention to detail. It's nice for the battlefield background it just needs to be further away
Andrew Bloomfield It can only be accessed by hyperdrive malfunctions. It looks like regular space but instead of being black with white stars... It's white with black stars! There is a death worshiping cult living there.
Isn't it that one creepy place that you can end up in during hyperspace which has interdimensional creatures that are extremely powerful and murderous?
uh, just...take a little off the top of the planet. *superlaser fires and destroys the planet* I SAID TAKE A LITTLE OFF THE TOP! NOT DESTROY THE WHOLE PLANET!!!!
Nah the bright white light is the explosion and the ocean-waviness of the screen is due to heat intensity of the planet being destyroyed. Works as intended. However I think the fleet should die to that amount of heat intensity.
Other than the planet's dissipating atmosphere, there's no medium to convey the heat across space to the ships. If they are going to be destroyed by something, it will be the newly formed asteroids being blasted away from their former home at relativistic speeds.
I can just imagine everyone just stopped what they were doing and trying to get over being blind as fuck: Rebel fighter: "Did we all die? Is this what the afterlife looks like?" Tie Pilot: "No. No this is *not* the afterlife. Wish it was though, would've saved me a lot."
Essentially if you have the death star in orbit use it as basically a "fuck you" insta win weapon that wipes out all units on the map by firing on low power. problem is it works like normal bombardment where a unit has to see where its gonna hit. so someones gonna have to sacrifice themselves. additionally it needs to charge, if the defending forces manages to hold off the attack before it finishes charging they could theoretically beat it. this also means you cant just instantly fire it.
Corellian frigates are the best weapon the rebels had, I don't know why the AI doesn't just make massive fleets of them to punish people that jump in with a fleet of 2 star destroyers. for those that don't know in space combat you are limited to 20 "units" a fighter/bomber squadron is 1 unit, a star destroyer is 5 units (IIRC) the Empire is more efficient in firepower per battle unit since you get a capital ship that spawns several fighter/bomber squadrons while the rebels have to make light craft separate from frigates and the like (the empire can too, but it is suboptimal if you aren't making utility craft like TIE Scouts) Why then are Corellian frigates so good? as a small vessel they only take up 2 units of space and give more laser firepower than an X-wing squadron, they are faster than most empire ships and ca engine boost to the speed of bombers, they have missiles that bypass shields and are a single structure craft which means they have no hardpoints to disable (engines, shield generators, hangar bay, etc) the low cost and high speed allow you to swarm larger capital ships, focus down the dangerous parts (hangar first then turbo lasers and engines) while they aren't heavily armored they are so cheap that losing 2 per SD is more than cost efficient, the only real problem they have is vs light craft because they have 2 lasers instead of the Corvette's 4 lasers A good strategy is to jump in wreck the capital ships and picket line, jump out, jump back in and wreck the space station, minimal casualties, maximum death (The expansion allows a better version of this strat with the Calamari frigate, photon torps instead of missiles and a cluster bomb AOE that can clear light craft with ease instead of an engine boost.)
I think you are missing the point here. The real super fleet in the expansion is a ton of B-Wings or TIE Defenders. The only real threat to that would be a ton of anti-fighter ships, and capital ships just die. The massive conventional firepower of the Defender means X-Wing squads just die, and enough of them can kill a Corellian Corvette before the torpedoes even get there. And the torpedoes just wreck anything else.
If you are playing the galactic conquest as the empire Bestine would be a very poor choice of planet to destroy as it give a reduction to the cost of Acclimators very useful at the start for a player playing as the empire.
02091992able considering how late game getting a star destroyer be, most empire players would’ve phased out acclimators in their fleets... they are way to weak after tier 3
By the time you aquire the DS-, Acclamators are almost entirely fased out for Victories and Star Destroyers. Acclamators are not a mid or late game ship.
Screw that. Personal preference, but I am an ass, and as such, I destroy all of the enemy ships and then let a whole heap of them just assault spiral everything.
even i agree, accs late game are pretty garbage, i phased them even out of my defensive fleets. my attack fleet consisted of darth vader and his ssd, thrawn, piet, tons of regular SDs, vics, and two or three interdictors. and the DS. my defensive fleets were 2 SDs, 2 Interdictors, and either a vic or very rarely a acc. i dislike vics overall due to the lack of weapon emplacements, like seriously. but they do spawn interceptors and more snubs. i ended up phasing all my accs into escorting my ground troops to use as sacrifcial lambs. id pull all my transports into a corner with the accs being around them like a wall. the transport fleet always had one SD for heros but thats it.
"Shit, sorry commander. We just blew ourselves into an empty dimension and gave ourselves temporary blindness." "Redirect the engines and go north." "Yessir"
The original death star had a recharge time of 24 standard hours, which is essentially 1 Earth day so it would have been a waste or at the very least a large delay. There's also no telling how a gas giant would react to the superlaser and the moon itself would have been flung into deep space.
Ive done it a couple of times in this but one time i went in to blow uo the planet first and my game just straight crashed during the explosion. Couldnt handle the power of thr death star i guess
Graphics card: "WAIT, DON'T FIRE THE SUPERLASER...JUST WAIT FOR THE CAMPAIGN MAP!!" Player: "In our moment of triumph?" *Fires superlaser, card explodes*
y'know, I read in the official star wars guide book (I got it atleast ten years ago, probably more) that each firing of the super laser for the Death Star costs Palpatine 26 septillion credits.
"Goddamn it, Bob. You had one job. There's just no way to spin this." -Vader's thoughts as the captain authorized the death star's usage and accidental explosion of a planet.
Many fix to this, my first advise would be to install the 1K patch to see if it work any better, for more help join discord server we’ll be glad to help you in that situation.
When you're on a Star Destroyer and you look out the window after the Death Star fires... The blast and Heat/Shockwave is what we saw there, which was strong enough to distort the space gamma rays(and whatever other rays their are in space)
(before the battle): "thank goodness I got my new pair of glasses. Now I can see clearly while I look out this space window." (after Bestine is destroyed): "MY EEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYEEEEESSSSSS."
ORaWGeroenimo What about making it a bunch of new asteroid fields? It doesn't do a damage over time but instead adds obstacles randomly strewn throughout? It would be nice if it had some effect on the battlefield beyond getting rid of ion cannons but not so far as constant minor damage. Perhaps some minor damage on the initial ignition that hurts shields more so than armor or throw the ships off course from the impact by moving them and changing their directions a little, I don't know just think that something as big as this would be even more impressive with some minor effect on the battlefield, not immensely significant but enough.
How do you destroy the Death Star in the mod? In the base game for the Rebels it was win a battle with Rogue Squadron in the fleet. Is it the same? Because I have no way of knowing.
