Idina Menzel didn’t even use 1% of her power in this movie and I think that is very cash money of her. Go girl, give us nothing and get that phat Amazon paycheck.
I love that this movie tried to make Cinderella "different and quirky" while in the real fairytail she just wants to fit in normal and be treated fair.
storytime: i forced my whole family to watch this movie by telling them that my teacher asked us to watch it as an assignment and they believed it. they were nonstop hating on it and were audibly relieved when the credits were rolling. it was then i told them that my teacher never told me to watch it and that they just got pranked. i think chad chad would be proud
I like how Cinderella got offered a job because of the dress she wore to the ball, which just so happens to be the one dress SHE DID NOT MAKE. The Fairy Godparent made it. And sure, she _designed_ it, but she also called the design "pure fantasy" and implied that she herself does not have the skills to actually make it (or at least she doesn't believe she does, and it's not like we get any proof otherwise). So basically, Cindy's a fraud. Is there any reason Fab G couldn't have just magically restored the dress that Idina Menzel splashed ink on? The one Cindy designed _and_ spent weeks working on and pouring her heart and soul into and was really proud of? And make _that_ the dress that the foreign queen admires so much that it prompts her to hire Cindy as her personal designer on the spot?
Yeah it would've made so much more sense if the 'impossible' dress was one she worked sleepless nights over getting to work and finally figured out just before the ball. Show the audience that she's worked herself to exhaustion but is feeling the euphoria of having this dream project **finally** work out... only to have the stepsister ruin it. So many of this movie's problems could've been solved with 5 minute rewrites.
don’t understand why cinderella wouldn’t want to go to the ball. for someone who loves fashion it would make sense for her to want to go so she can look at all the pretty dresses and outfits. idk just me? lol
Isn't this like the entire plot to the story? She wants to go to the ball and look pretty just like all the other girls, it's inherently not a "I'm not like other girls" story
@@HyperGloss666 to me it (being the original stories) feels like a "im not like other girls but i really am not i wish i was and desire so much to just be normal and treated as another woman rather than a servant" kind of story and thats what makes it good. it inherently speaks to the struggle of women in lower classes or who don't fit into the role of a regular woman who instead of wanting to be quirky and different want to be jsut like everyone else to feel normal
I went to a queer teen prom like a month ago and they played "The Prom" in the movie room and they put a fucking sign on the door that said "TW: James Corden" and it was the funniest thing I've ever seen
@@skywatcher1456 hmmm there's a lot. I think a lot of it is people find him annoying but also there's a lot of stories of him being a massive jerk. I've heard stuff about him yelling at servers, being mean to his wife on a flight, and other stuff like that. Just a generally unpleasant guy
Can we also talk about that one scene where Ella was standing in the middle of the ballroom and you could see how HIDEOUS her dress looks compared to the other women in their ballgowns....yikes
ikr! as i was watching the movie with my mom (who also didn't like it lol), I just remember thinking that her dress was so plain and uninspiring compared to all the exotic dresses and hairstyles that the other women wore. Speaking of hairstyles, omfg the fairy godmother could create a literal carriage and turn into a human but he couldn't at least do something with ella's hair? it's been the same braid the entire movie.
@@dontyellatmeicryeasily3788 thought the same thing. Especially the hair. Couldn’t even do a half up half down situation or something with some jewels. Just a limp, ugly, braid that looks like she just got out of bed.
Okay but did anyone else notice that for most of the movie she’s literally running around in a chemise and stays. Which is underwear? Literally she isn’t even wearing a skirt? Chemises are usually pretty see through too so i dunno why they thought it was a good costume choice for her. Shehas a basement full of dresses but not a single goddamn overskirt.
The fact that the same dude played this prince charming, the prince in Red White and Royal Blue, and the main guy in Purple Hearts is SENDING ME You put three pictures of him in these three movies side by side they look like twins visiting their homophobic cousin during Christmas
Also the prince in this Cinderella take has similar views to the Prince in Red White And Royal Blue (which is a superior movie and I'd love to see a review of that one) is sending me.
damn i didnt realise how deeply glee has traumatised me into cowering at the sight of group formation dancing while singing a cover. im in fight or flight rn. good job i hate the content of the film but you make it worth, love u chad chad
@@icelandicfaeinPNW Glee is basically highschool musical with many annoying songs and dance formation so yea, if you still dont know glee yet then i recommend to save yourself and get away from it :))
Obsessed with the fact that for the people in poverty/slavery, instead of making them seem malnourished or like they were having a hard life, each and every one of them were in perfect shape and had a full face of makeup and I honestly think it was a great choice by the director!
Honestly I’d love a Cinderella remake if they added some sort of lgbt twist to it to at least make it stand out more than the others Like make Cinderella a trans women so the scene of her getting the dress is more emotional, and really lean into the abuse she deals with at home because she simply wants to be herself Make her meet the prince or princess (part of me votes for princess just for more lgbt rep but prince is fine too-) while being forced to be perceived as a guy. Have them relate to being put into roles they don’t want- Give me my gay/trans fairy tales dammit!
I wanna see modern Cinderella interpretation where they actually acknowledge that Cinderella is a victim of child abuse/domestic abuse and was basically forced into servitude the moment her dad died. She saw the ball and the prince (but she didn’t know it was the prince at that time) as an opportunity to escape from the a toxic household. So many modern interpretations paint her a weak damsel in distress that needed saving from a prince. B r u h.
@@Raya-ir4tm bro w h a t? Since when? Edit: Again, most of modern adaptations feel the need to portray Cinderella as tough, sassy, tomboyish, etc because it’s seen as stronger from her usual gentle and calm demeanor. Not once have I seen an adaptation straight up acknowledge Cinderella’s experiences as ACTUAL abuse. Yes, it’s portrayed as “mistreatment” or “boohoo, her family is mean >:(“ but never straight up abuse that has possible long term affects on her. It’s not recognizing “show not tell”, it’s just piss poor writing. Don’t get snobby.
Fun fact: the "slippers" are glass because of a mistranslation because when the Grimm brothers were traveling around collecting stories, they were in France (i think), and they misheard the word for fur and wrote it down as glass.
The Grimm Brothers version of the shoe-fitting scene is so gnarly too 💀 sim surprised a movie hasn’t done the whole “cut off a piece of your heel” and “she cut off her big toe”
I wish james cordon was the creepy dude and rob, romesh and james acaster were the mice. but i absolutely know cordon would sue if he got a part like that
Movie has bad story, weird acting, strange dialogue, but I must admit the costuming and set design look absolutely gorgeous. Like the fairy god person’s outift? Absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately not enough to save the film lol
@@gwengrasso1887 It says a lot about this movie that Ella is *supposed* to be a dressmaker but all her dress are underwhelming at best. The Fairy God Parent is better dressed than her.
@@BrieBoar the thing that gets me is that she's supposed to be a dressmaker, has all those dresses lying around, and yet appears to be running around in some kind of late medieval undergarments for the first half of the film. Like, girl, for you to be a dressmaker you have to know that your stay is supposed to have a dress on top of it at the very least. You can't be responsible for the wardrobe of a queen if you think underwear goes on the outside...
I am so glad you mentioned how the camera just is so stationary, people don’t realize how important camera movement and placement in general is for movies and shows. My dad worked as a key grip and the amount of insight he gave me for this sorta stuff makes it so that it’s always the first thing I notice lmao And yeah the shots in this movie aren’t great, they could be 1000x better.
The cinematography in this movie really needed help. There's an intro scene with Ella where she goes from her basement quarters up to the main part of the house while singing. I remember trying to see all the set work behind her during the shot and realizing the scene could've had potential if the camera just pulled back a few feet. It was one long shot that goes upstairs and through the building: pretty cool in concept. It could've shown the difference between her drab conditions and the opulent decor of the main building, but the camera was so close that I could barely see details around her.
"That was the single funniest line in this entire movie" To be fair, if you let James Acaster be James Acaster, you're gonna have a winning moment on your hands.
It’s not surprising that James Acaster said the funniest line in the movie. I felt bad for him and Romesh because they’re genuinely funny comedians and deserved way better.
“What is the changing of the guard and why does everyone have to be there for it? I imagine it would be embarrassing for him” This made me actually snort, why is this the funniest thing I’ve ever heard
I feel like Chad Chad would also say “would have” correctly instead of every other person on the internet who missed that day in grammar class who says “would of.”
@@alexpaulk2819 oh, you were talking about typing. You wrote about how they spoke like that, so I thought that's what you meant. But, I mean is it really that bad? Cuz like no one needs grammar when you're on social media. Like how we start lot's of our sentences lowercase. Unless they wrote that in professional places.
They literally made her a manique pixie dream girl in disney channel sitcom format. But also the freaking fairy godperson was the best thing in the movie
Anne Hathaway sang Somebody to Love a billion times better. Ella Enchanted is a movie masterpiece, not to mention the book is great too. The outright disrespect in this film is NOT okay. 🤣
I know it's a year later, but theatre fact! Musicals that take pop songs or songs not made for that show are called jukebox musicals, it's just a musical with the modern/popular music arranged to help the story along, think Mama Mia and 9-5! They're not always my personal favorite, and this movie did a piss poor job with it. But they're popular/common in theatre bc a lot of people know the music! Love this video and you, have a wonderful day!
Had an idea of how this movie could have been done: The aspiring dress-maker is Cinderella's friend, who lives nearby and they hang out sometimes when the step-family are away. Cinderella tells her about the crazy night with the fairy godmother and the ball but she's just looking at her like she's on crack or something. Then when the prince comes to try the glass slipper on her she knows it's real. When Cinderella is getting married she asks the friend to make the wedding dress and now she has an opportunity to prove herself in front of the kingdom. That'd be sweet I think.
i’m just going to say it now the 1997 rodger and hammersteins cinderella is CRIMINALLY underrated. Amazing singing, diverse cast, beautiful orchestration and just MWAH, a walking masterpiece. that’s all 🤗🤗
When I saw this was another singing Cinderella movie with an actual singer as the main character (Just like how Brandy starred in the 1997 version).... I was thinking to myself, "There's no way that they can do better than Whitney Houston as the fairy godmother." And my statement rings true. Although Fab G may be a different and surprising take on a fairy godmother, he still was not as good as Whitney.
I don't think it's underrated. I think it's a pretty beloved movie as it should be. What is underrated however is the stage production movie A Tale of Cinderella. Such a great movie/play with great songs and funny dialogue and a pretty great storyline.
Selling her mom's brooch? Really? In Disney's animated version it's heavily implied that the pink dress Cinderella was going to wear was her mother's. And because Lady Tremaine is satan incarnate, Cinderella probably hid the dress from her because that Lady Tremaine would have totally burned it to break Cinderella even more.
wait (ignore that i’m almost a year late but) i somehow never caught that in the original version??? what did they say/show that implied it omg i want to watch it again now
@@TheeEnglishKnightthat's just classic American movie making. In period/foreign settings everyone has a different accent *except* the protagonist, who must be American. So you get the American-accented girl protagonist in a period-setting movie filled with British accented people. Or, most egregiously, you get Princess Anastasia and her love-interest Dimitri both having American accents in an animated movie set in Russia where everyone else has thick Russian accents...
They are not committing to one. The main girl is wearing something that looks like if an AI was told to design a pair of 18th century stays but it's all fantasy costuming
the line “what it like being a crate” is said by James Acaster. He has some of the most unhinged nut hilarious comedy shows and I adore all his appearances on taskmaster and would I lie to you and any thing else. Everything about him is comedic genius with no bigoted themes. He’s a gem and I encourage everyone to watch his stuff
I feel like an idiot asking, and maybe it's just because I haven't seen the movie, but what does he even mean when he says "What is it like being a crate?" Were they crates and then by the power of magic were turned into horses?
It brought me such intense terror when I saw my fav comedian James Acaster in this god awful movie and then immediate joy when his line was the only good one. What a rollercoaster
my number one peeve of this movie is that she takes credit for the Cinderella dress. Like she had a ROUGH SKETCH and it is so much higher quality than any of the other dresses she has actually made herself. You did NOT make that dress excuse me
The only good line in the movie was by James Acaster, sounds about right. He’s brilliant imo. I also appreciate the two seconds of Rob Beckett as well. Any British comedians that frequent panel shows are my jam honestly.
honestly in any other movie i'd like the flamboyant fairy godmother character but this movie feels so corporate it just feels like "gay people are profitable now" rather than a fun twist on a character
11:03 Doesn’t it defeat the whole purpose of going to the ball in a dress made by the fairy god mother. She wanted to go to show off her dresses. Wouldn’t they see it as false advertising?
I think they think they’re representing the lgbtq+ community by the addition of billie porter as the fairy godparent, but idk i personally find it really tokenizing and obnoxious. Also…. Literally “fairy” has been a slur used for gay men so how did they think it was ok to make the FAIRY GODMOTHER A QUEER PERSON. Did they even have a sapient thought in their head when they made that decision Edit: i know it’s not disney now. I just assumed it was bc princess. U can stop commenting to correct me now
I didn't even think about that honestly I was just so entranced by his amazing and beautiful costume. But now that you point it out making the fairy the only queer character is somewhat distasteful. But I honestly loved him in the movie
@@SM-yz4hi I mean, they could have very well come out of left field and made the prince a woman. But that would have actually been a cool idea and good queer rep so of course they didn't do it
I get what ur saying but they'll always be someone complaining that "oOoO tHeRe NeEdS tO bE mOrE bLaCk /LgBtQ rEpReSeNtATiOn" and once u get it u still complain, i don't think they thought it that way they just added a gay male cuz viewers are complaining.
I think I talk for everyone that... The best part of the movie is when it ends and Chad Chad makes a video about it. Basically: Chad Chad is the best part and she's not even on the movie.
Whenever I watch videos of this movie I need to make sure that the UK comedians featured in this film get a shout out because they make this movie semi-bearable. You have Rob Beckett as Mr Seesle and Romesh Ranganathan and James Acaster as the two mice alongside James Corden.
Oooh excited for this. The only good thing about the Cinderella movie was James Acaster, saying that I didn’t actually didn’t watch it I just watched the clips he’s in….
I know it’s pure fantasy, but this movie rips out my historical fashion loving heart and takes a piss on it with its trash costume design. That being said, Cinderella was a victim of abuse and finally had one night of freedom in which she fell in love with someone kind and charming, turns out he was the ✨prince✨who was looking for a bride. Y’all, during this time people had arranged marriages since childhood! So them meeting a falling in love in one night with someone who was kind and caring was absolutely doable. As well as her finding courage to leave her abusive family. She’s very lucky, yes, but I know she would have run away with the man even if he wasn’t a prince. She chose her freedom. I can’t with Cinderella shaming, she’s my favorite Disney princess *please*
12:27 Ella could not possibly look any less interested if she tried. you'd think she would be blown away by seeing her gown on stage, but she looks like She is on minute 17 of her 2 year old nephew explaining his toy
I know deep in my soul I must legitimately underestimate the sheer amount of work that must go into every episode where you do a magnificently ADHD fueled acapella version of every song
ModernGurlz did a video on this and discusses why the movie is bad and how it can improve. She discusses how the movie is supposed to be about Girl Power and being independent yet Cindy can never do anything on her own. Also the fact that Cinderella tries to take credit for the dress that the Fairy God parent made is hilarious and shows you why she can't do much on her own.
At first when there was music, I thought, "man, this is REALLY good! Why wouldn't someone want to hear this?" And then I realized it was Chad Chad singing
The single funniest line in the movie being spoken by James Acaster does not surprise me in the least, and I almost watched the movie just for him (but then I didn’t)
I just started watching Kurtis Conner’s videos, and honestly he just reminds me so much of Chad Chad, they definitely need a collab. Also, after I saw that there was another Cinderella movie on ads everywhere, I nearly died inside. No, I definitely died inside. They need to stop making crappy remakes/rewrites of that movie, jeez.
Lucy Punch has played the evil step-sister literally three times in her career, that I can think of off the top of the dome. I think she deserved a break, don't you?
I think it's more like she read the script and rightly thought "this is a pile of shit and as much as I like playing the step-sister, no way in hell will I be in this movie"
It's actually her dream role! Not in this garbage fest, obviously, but she says in interviews that she loved to pretend to be one of the evil stepsisters.
I'm back after a year, and it just dawned on me that it took Ella *Weeks* to make that one pink gown that gets destroyed...this woman wants to be a professional seamstress. That gown shouldn't have taken her that long, based on the amount of time she seems to be able to spend working on it and the tools at her disposal, that should've been like, one week at most, for a professional seamstress who has no other gowns that need to be made.
I can’t believe James Acaster is the only person in this film who made me laugh, unironically. Sure I love him he’s my favourite comedian, but I expected the others to be better
I've watched somewhere of a video essay how the "remakes" of these cinderella movies had completely strays from the message of the original, many of us had used to think that the original movie is about "a girl who had save by a Prince charming" while that not completely the truth. There's a lot of good message in there once we looked at it a bit closer and more open minded, I suggest to anyone who somehow reading this try search for "In defense of cinderella", its such a good video! I learn a lot
The original story is already good tbh (I'm talking about the disney version since that's what most people are familiar with) Cinderella is a hardworker and a very kind character but also has ambition. She, imo, a good example of strong female character while keeping her feminity shown throughout the movie
Yea, like people say Cinderella only wants to Marry the prince, but she barely even know he existed. Like she would NEVER have a chance with him normally and she knew it. She just wanted to have a fun time going to the ball.
Also isnt like the orginal version, written form, much more violent?? Like, if we are gonna keep remaking Cinderalla, lets take one which follows violence(?)
Don’t forget he has the one earring thing going on! I see it and it sends me every time my younger sister rewatches this movie. Plus this actor has played in two other canonically queer roles and seeing him as a prince that “falls in love with Ella” always sends me to gay heaven without passing go and collecting $200.
Only watched it for Idina and yet again she killed the cast with her amazing vocals. She didn’t even have to try much and she still overpowered literally everyone in every song she was in with them.
Proud of you Chadchad. You're using your platform to dowhat you want to do and take responsibility for your own happiness, rather then doing what viewers may pressure you to make a video about. I love your videos for your funny skits so as always, loved this video ❤
