For me, the coolest thing is that the guys from Rush still hold each other in very high regard, even after all these years. That's entirely too rare.

Rush did not have giant egos to feed. They just wanted to play music.They respected each other and split their royalties evenly despite their input into a certain song.

@@anthonykobiec8569 It was way more than that, they were brothers, even tho' Neil wasn't the original drummer they were family, a good course on how bands should be, when Neil lost family and needed to take a bike ride around the planet they said "go, we'll wait", Neil never wanted the spotlight, liked his privacy, real down to Earth as are Geddy and Alex, it's ironic that the sisters were brought in and joined Heart, they didn't create it, but they ended up owning the corporation and the name. Pretty not cool.

Rush had a great run without a lineup change indeed, but the record goes to ZZ Top, who lasted 51 years without a change after Frank Beard joined in 1970. The current record holder for an active band is now U2, which has gone 43 years without a change.

I once bought a bass from Steve at a Seattle store he was at for a while. I had no idea who he was, other than a gentleman and very knowledgeable about the bass I was interested in. The new band with Mike and Somar nails the old Heart sound better than the original band ever did.

After watching this I checked out Fossen/Derosier's band Heart by Heart and they are f'n amazing! I'm not a big cover band fan but Heart by Heart is a much more edgy and rockin' band than any band that I've seen billed as Heart. There's only one Ann Wilson but this guy's wife is incredible!
@roncoughman6221
@roncoughman6221 Год назад
I didn't think they were that good. They sound fine, but they basically cover Heart songs that we've all heard 1000 times note for note with a vocalist who is quite good but sounds nothing even close to Ann Wilson. It would be like listening to a technically proficient Led Zeppelin cover band with Adam Lambert singing. He's a fine singer but it certainly wouldn't be anywhere near as good as seeing the real thing.
@marzsit9833
@marzsit9833 Год назад
@@roncoughman6221 the vocals are only half of the music. the groove and the beat are the other half and nobody plays early heart songs like the original guys. the later versions of heart don't play the early songs anywhere close to the way they were supposed to sound, barracuda at the hall of fame ceremony was an excellent example of this, new heart played it slow and the rhythm was off.

You can't put an old head on young shoulders. Were that possible, the Fisher brothers would in the beginning have gotten their lawyers on board and made themselves owners of the brand. They would then have kept it strictly professional with the Wilson sisters, avoiding the damage they all inflicted on their personal reputations as well as the band's image.

Hilarious, but Heart wouldn't be nearly the same without the Wilson sisters who were primary songwriters & proved themselves without the other guys. Even if they had gotten the Heart name, the Wilson sisters continued success.
@PatrickLongworth

That the Wilson sisters got the power to take the "Heart" name from the guys isn't surprising to me. Frankie Sullivan did similarly in taking away Survivor from Jim Peterik, the visionary founder of that band. The circumstances were different and I respect the Wilson sisters more than Sullivan now.

I'd love to see the original Heart reunite. My very favorite albums from them however were in the mid 80s. Their self-titled album of 1985 & Bad Animals of 1987. Awesome albums! Those two albums were also very inspirational to me as an aspiring rock keyboardist in high school. I was fortunate to catch them on tour for Big Animals. The keyboard work on those albums was phenomenal! I was never clear exactly who did what though, if it was mostly Howard, Nancy or some studio musicians playing on the tracks. Regardless, incredible work. The Dreamboat Annie album comes next for me. Also loved songs like Mistrial Wind. The ideal tour would be their original line-up, and their mid 1980s lineup combined when the band reached their peak in popularity! Let's not forget how huge those 2 albums I mentioned were, and really got the Heart name out there as they re-invented the band. The Heart line-ups of the 90s to present never seemed as magical to me. Also gigantic changes in the rock music format going on where older bands were almost forced to sound different just in order to get a record deal. Think of all the great 70s bands who largely retained their sound in the 80s with a few twists, but in the 90s sounded drastically different.

@nicoleh.6059 Год назад
John, that's a good point. Maybe if the group would have taken a break (maybe a year off), maybe the band (the '70s lineup) wouldn't have fallen apart. They could have given Roger time to get himself together mentally, instead of firing him. Plus, when they fired him, it made it weird for his brother, Mike, to stick around as their manager, and it affected Mike's relationship with Ann because he wanted both Ann and Roger in the group. But I don't know if their record company or management would have okayed them taking a break.

Ann broke up with Mike sometime before Nancy broke up with Roger. Nancy then took up with the drummer (don't think it was De Rosier, but a replacement). As cringeworthy as anything John Lennon ever did.
@nicoleh.6059
@nicoleh.6059 Год назад
@@davehopping7212 Nancy was with Mike Derosier, not a replacement. She even said this on the VH1 documentary "Behind the Music." She said that they were together, but she was more in love with him than he was with her, so they ended their relationship. But that made things awkward, and shortly after that, Derosier and Fossen got voted out of the band.

RUSH are good Canadian boys. I do believe Canadians have a different mindset than Americans and even British bands do towards things. I feel RUSH are friends more than working partners. Not too many bands are friends with each other, but they need each other to do what they do

The Wilson Sisters have pretty big egos from what I hear. While there's no doubt Ann & Nancy are indispensable to the sound, so was the rest of the group in forming that classic Heart sound.

Heart by the mid 80s was a joke. They lost their sound, didn’t write the own music any longer, and just played horrendous Dianne Warren and clones ballads. Sold a lot of albums to the easy listening secretary crowd, but lost their 70s fans. I despise what they became without the original band.
