It's been a longer road than expected but I just need to make a final fix before Goldie, my 2007 C6 Z06 Corvette is finally track-day-capable. Let's see if we can get her fixed up and back on the road for a (wet) test session at Atlanta Motorsports Park.

i agree with you findings, the suspension is way too soft even wit better bilsteins, i will be installing Penske 3way coilovers now, already have uniballs in all A arms, Essex APracing brakes etc, it was just the suspension letting me down on track. Also changing to dual ooil coolers to get more fresh air to the radiator, and better oil cooling. Stock seats have to go if you want a bit more feel, but the steering lacks a bit of feeling compared to my miata(depowered rack on the miata and full race suspension and wide semi slicks) Good work on the project so far:) Also, when the handling etc is sorted, a nice NA tune of the ls7 makes things really interesting as ive seen my car with 600whp is almost as fast as a gt2rs in a straight line, just needs the suspension sorted now.

Great to see it back on track! Racing seats and 6 point harnesses are essential when compared to lazy boy style stock seats. You'll be able to focus on what the car is doing rather than holding yourself up. VetteWorks sells bypass connectors if you don't want to have the air bag warning lights on all the time.

Big yep on the seats. I've got Sparco QRTs on order. On the steering communication... Delrin bushings helped a bit, but still far from anything special. You'll get used to it. The magic of the Z06 is steering with throttle on corner exit. Tracking out under power is when you'll really love this car.

Finally on the track with more than a couple laps! Congrats! I agree, the stock seats suck. Also, stiffer engine and tranny mounts will help considerably with the feel. The drivetrain flops alot with all that torque.

Good to see progress and that you can get some experience on the track with the car. I have not taken my C6 Z06 to the track in the wet, so I do not have the feel of the car for comparison. You seem to have experience with many different cars on track so you would know better than me. I will say in the dry with good MPS Cup 2 tires my car can hang with some of the GT3's not all, depends on the year and how experienced the driver is. Have fun with the project, enjoy watching. I would like to discuss the SOLO 2 I see in your car. I have one, a SOLO 2 DL, and have not been able to get it to locate the track I go to (Portland International Raceway) or communicate with the ECU.
@JoshVanVeld
@JoshVanVeld Год назад
Mine is not the DL but I'd like to upgrade to try to get access to data overlays. If you hook it up to your PC (you need Windows and Wifi and the software available on their website) you might be able to download more tracks. I would google to find out if it has a track learning function. I lot of people really like the Garmin unit that came out a couple years ago, much more user-friendly than the AIM stuff.

I have a c6 carbon edition z06/z07 love it tracked it 3 times went through 3 sets of tires motor mounts and front wheel bearings and brake pads (Laguna seca / sonoma ) those tracks consume brakes and cars 😅. Currently saving up for wheels and tires . Doing a 200 treadwear tire this time but got a e46 m3 cheaper to track … sometimes it’s about cost more than capability

I hear you on that! The faster you go, the more you go through consumables and the more you break stuff 😬 I've had a chance to drive a few BMWs on track now - a spec E30, a track-prepped E36, and an E36 with an S54 swap on slicks... They were all fantastic. I really want to give an E46 a go.

Love the fact that you were able to get a track day in despite it being wet or not. Always good times to having fun with the toys you get but a bummer if you can't when it's wet out. Have you decided on a suspension system for Goldie yet? I have my money on some LG G2 suspension and sway bar kit, probably the best bang for the buck. Getting a set of new seats would be nice too. You trying to stay stockish or going for a little more race like?
@JoshVanVeld
@JoshVanVeld Год назад
I’m not 100% decided on the suspension but I’ll be making a choice soon. Seats are already here, I kept the set I had in my C5Z. Not 100% sure what I’m doing about belts / harnesses though.
@TheWolfMatt
@TheWolfMatt Год назад
@Josh Van Veld's Racing Mind Belts really depends on your seat. I used 4 point Simpson Racing in my 17 ZL1 to help keep me in place. No reason those shouldn't work in yours provided you have the rear bar for them. Either way, really enjoying the content bud, keep at it.
@yzScott

The great thing on that G2 setup is that it is not a fixed package. Those shocks are valved and sprung however you like. The process was much like spec-ing a custom suspension for a MX bike.

Did you figure out how to fix the pedal situation for heel toe shifting ? I know you mentioned that it's very hard to heel toe when you first drove the car. I got myself 08 z06 last year and had the same feeling about the throttle pedal being too far from the brake pedal. How does it feel on the track ? You're making great videos!

Take it from a previous Z06 owner - save your money and get a ZL1/1LE with a 6spd manual. It was honed at the Nurburgring. 3 years on and the move from the Z06 > ZL1/1LE was the best decision to date.

@@ViperMods_216 The Alpha chassis of the 6th Gen paired the 1LE calibration has been a breath of fresh air for me on tracks like VIR. The Z06 was always skittish at the limit and required a lot more work and Aero to get anywhere near the potential of the ZL1/1LE.
