Still crazy to see that an APU these days are at least 1060 3gb perf for fraction of the power, noise, etc. This is the perf of the once a power hungry beast GTX 980... It's matter of time til APUs are the power of an RTX 2060 - GTX 1080.
The 780m is closer to in between a 1050 ti and a 1060 3gbm it hust has faster and more memory, as well as being attached to a better CPU, allowing it to perform nearly on par with a 1060 3gb
@mrshinobigaming8447 the existence of consoles proves we could have a bigger PC APU. We are supposedly getting an upgrade with rdna3+ for the next-gen APUs, up from 12 to 16 CUs at the top end (890M?).
I like Minisforum's practical approach to their device's internal and external designs. Their devices are definitely "made to be used, not just to be sold", the mindset that so few companies share today.
This could be awesome for long flights, train rides, car rides, etc., with the kickstand and a wireless controller, as a cool alternative to handheld PCs
@@ThatsMrMaxHeadroomToYou Surface is weaker & costs more, and gaming laptops are way less portable. This weighs 930 grams, not too much more than the bigger handhelds, and it's slim so it'll fit even more easily in a backpack than those. It's pricey but could be a cool premium option for frequent travellers
@@ThatsMrMaxHeadroomToYou the better way is just buying something like the zenbook with the r7 8840hs for $800 which is still very portable but also has the performance shown in the video.
That is a whole desktop PC. This is awesome. I want one! Even if I don't even need it. It's so cool who far AMD's graphics solution got. Stuff is really playable.
AMD are shortening the distance between integrated and discrete GPUs, budget GPUs will soon be redundant for most uses. If you think this is insane then wait for later in the year. This APU has 12 RDNA3 CUs but AMD are releasing one with 40, for context an Xbox Series X has 40 RDNA 2 CUs with 4 being redundant (tolerances, as long as 36 CUs function the SOC works so by baking 40 in they have low waste in wafers). While the 40 functional RDNA3 cores sound stronger though they will be restricted by memory bandwidth so won't perform like a Series X they should be outputting at RTX2070 levels, maybe better, so will make a lot of GPUs redundant. Unless AMD can get their APUs and GPUs to integrate and leverage each others resources, that could make for some interesting uses.
@@darthwiizius And the CPU power is pretty impressive in these machines. The Z1 extreme in devices like ROG Ally can compete with desktop CPUs from a few years back. And not the cheapest ones either.
@@rowaystarco Absolutely, the CPUs are 8C16T of up to date tech (way faster than the CPU I use). These chips are bringing the idea of portable workstation uses into reality too, in a tiny high efficiency package.
It really is impressive and would honestly be great for some light gaming on the go like if I'm in a hotel. I can't lug my whole ass PC with me but this most certainly would be an option to bring along.
That cooling performance is very impressive. I think that format can replace regular laptops for many people. That performance in this format with those temps is kinda crazy. I wish there was a test of a fanless mode for playing videos on it for a few hours. If I can safely hold this device like a tablet in bed, honestly, I often wouldn't even need a big screen, 14" 2k panel that close is plenty. That format needs like a super-eco mode. The cooling in the new HP Transcend 14 makes me think, that a little bit chunkier version of this tablet with 4060 might be possible. Add to it ease of maintenance (ease of disassembly, fan cleaning, upgrade) and some ports and that would be like a dream device.
Simple actually, you can only choose 3 things from a device. - Price - Performance - Portability The rule is, you can only choose 2 of 3. For example this one's Performance and Portability.
But it's a great game- people love classic games you know? Not everyone wants to play demanding new releases- to revisit beloved games on a mobile machine is a dream for people like me
It's not so much about it being niche as it shows how powerful the system is. GTA 4 is midly unoptimized and requires a bit of beef even out of new systems to run.
@@tidus1ph its the brand. And I am smoking Silver Haze. There has never bin a gaming Microsoft Surface tablet. I know of the Asus. Also overpriced.. like all other stuff. Know.. I'm using a i7 4th gen and an AMD RX580 8GB from a dumpster find. The tech they have behind closed doors is over a 100 years ahead of what we get and it is build to break down. To bad I can't share any weed with ya. I would have.. if you lived next to me or something.
@RandomGaminginHD sorry for the random question, but can the usb 4 ports also do display port out ? I want to use this with multiple monitors and can't find online if they are dp out. thanks
As an ex-Microsoft Surface owner, this is my dream tablet PC I always wanted! Also with other features packed in such as a DP-in to use as a external monitor and accessories that comes included in the box evens out the asking price imo.
Yeah the I/O and video out is pretty cool. 1600p is well worth the trade-off imo. Can spend the budget elsewhere instead of just having an insanely high res screen (and gate guarding more storage).
Basically an AMD-based (and thus gaming-capable) clone of Microsofts _Surface Pro_ line. Would've been nice to see how games would run and look at half resolution (1280 x 800) - scaling should be perfect.
Thanks to the handheld PC console revolution all using AMD mostly, they’ve done fantastic work with the chips and I’m VERY glad to see one made its way into a 14” PC tablet, cheaper than a Surface Pro, here in the UK at least and MUCH more capable with gaming.
AMD APUs continue to impress. This Minisforum V3 tablet is a competitor to the iPad Pro in some ways, yet it is less pricey. It will be better for gaming as it has Windows and a better graphics solution. It weighs more, has a lower resolution display, and camera specs aren't listed. Don't have to pay the Apple tax on storage and RAM. It's an interesting product because it competes with gaming handhelds and tablets. Hmm...
for games like Cyberpunk, in an AMD GPU you should consider the DLSS-TO-FSR mod. it replace DLS 3.0 with FSR 3.0, enabling it to all graphic card, including AMD, with that you can enable AMD Fluid Motion tech (the frame generation technology) that helps increase the FPS by leaps and bounds, smoothing out gameplay
Neat, I absolutely loved the Microsoft Surface when we had one. I got it for my wife. But, I ended up using it more after she didn't need it for college. Was thinking of getting the ROG one. Got a SteamDeck now though. Wish these came out a little sooner.
Two questions (if you don't mind :)): - How are the colors on the screen? - What's the battery life in power saving mode and how does it affect performance?
Having had two Surface Pros since 2016; I hope this isn't a one-off device, and other companies step into "Surface-Likes" with (in particular) these AMD APUs!
Nice, I have something similar looking with pentium N6000 and Intel IGPU and I was wondering how those things would perform with the AMD CPU and IGPU. They certainly look to fare well for on the go gaming, and they seems worth the money if you're an occasional gamer or video editor. The main advantage of these machines is the weight and the form factor, you can transport them anywhere with you and that's awesome.
its mind blowing how far devices had come..... i still have my sony vaio laying around rocking a intel i3-2310M 2,1 Ghz (dual core) and a Radeon HD 6470M (512MB!) ..... this thing outperforms my oldie in so many ways xD
Awesome to see how far hardware has gotten. I was blown away by the steam deck's useability, but this is insane. Albeit expensive, this is competitive when compared to a device you'll use for business purposes too. Turn off Game Mode in Windows 11 to reduce those stutters in RDR.
Why didn't you just connect a Controller for gaming? And as with all the MINISFORUM stuff, you have to put a premium on being compact for the cost to make sense. That price is where budget gaming laptops start with dGPUs. That's more than I paid for my rtx 3060 ASUS ROG laptop over a year ago. Still- it looks like a solid convertible windows machine.
you cant compare this to a laptop or other minisforum mini pcs its in a totally new class of its own and the price is about bang on par for what your getting i would say even a bargain considering it is a full pc in tablet form and also an external monitor! Thats where the value is! Its not all about gaming dude the fact that this is capable is a bonus for that but its an entire new class of product on its own
@@roobear78 Z13 and Surface pro are really the only x86 devices that are similar that I can think of. I can see why people would rather get the Z13, but I don't think it's the answer 100% of the time over the V3.
AMD integrated graphics are starting to get quite impressive ngl. I never thought I'd see the day where such a GPU would have ray tracing support too. This little thing even beats my PC in some ways before the upgrades i did lately. Better RAM and more of it (i have 32gb ddr4 now but it was 16 before) and that CPU can definitely give my 3800x a run for its money even if it's not completely better. Sure, my 3060 beats its graphics performance but before when I had a rx 580, this would even exceed that in some ways like the RT support.
Hey RandomGaminginHD, this thing would be really awesome for emulation and retrogaming as well. Something I think really stands out over the Microsoft surface line is the expandable storage that isn't pay-walled. I can see if some people would prefer the Asus Z13 over this, but I think the I/O, video out, TDP, and accessories make the V3 an overall more "livable" option if the intent is to do more than just laptop gaming replacement.
almost perfect.. the stand should have been metal and intergrated like the surface pro and so should the frame be..the vlink (dp-in) needs more information if it supports pen when you use it... Its performance is awsome but no magnetics in the front so you can angle up the keyboard a bit on top of being able to access the NVME to upgrade it to 2tb....would have really made this a surface pro killer.. so close but just short.
hey man. what an amazing little machine, crazy how small it is. could you do some benchmark/comparison video with this thing again but comparing dx 11, dx 12 and maybe vulkan? Fortnite is one of the games that can use dx 11 or dx 12 and im curious which one runs better. also maybe try out performance mode lol :D
I ordered one for me today. They're selling it atm as a pre-order deal for 1369€ including the Pen and Keyboard. But I have to say, I just ordered one for me, because I was already looking for a good Windows Tablet and the selling point for me was, that you can use it as a secondary Monitor, which I was also looking for for my main PC....so Win Win I guess
Were all the benchmarks measured on battery, without power connected? If so, was there any incrrease in FPS with the PSU attached, i.e. at the 'Premium' power setting?
It is definitely cool. Would be nice for someone who doesn't care about performance but wants something light weight. But you can get a 4060 8-core gaming laptop with 16GB RAM and 1TB NVME SSD for $200-300 less.
This thing is nice, but its crazy expensive. I was really hyped when it got announced but now bummed that it is releasing with such a huge price. It costs more than my laptop and its a compromise over a laptop.
I just watched 3 other videos of Minisforum V3 and they all confirm that it is superior to the new Surface 10 pro in CPU and iGPU so for me it is something essential and more so because of the price difference this MINISFORUM V3 is $600 cheaper
I've recently bought myself a framework 13 laptop AMD variant to replace my old and aging intel based notebook - only thing missing on it is a touchscreen. So this tablet would have been on the shortlist would i have known of about it a month ago. Well... next time ;-)
I cant justify the price right now since I have a great 14 inch laptop with a 3050TI and use a beelink mini pc with Radeon 680m graphics to play my entire steam library. But man, I cant wait to catch one of these on the used market after newer models come out. I have been rooting for APUs since bitcoin mining destroyed the chance to get a reasonably priced GPU... The Ryzen 7 5800g was great, but these are just getting insane... People like me that only play older titles that are on sale are living the dream... we will be playing them on a smart watch in a year at this rate... LOL!
Whenever I see a tablet like this and see "Spydows 11" is the culprit (hello RDR 2), I really miss something like Windows 8.1. Controversial, but definitely suitable for these devices (and also for handhels maybe?).
Its crazy to think that even when power limited to laptop level power consumption, modern cpus and gpus are still quite capable even tho not as capable when ran it desktop levels of power consumption. Crazy to think that you can buy a laptop more powerful than a desktop from 2009. I first started playing minecraft on such an old PC and the thought that a modern laptop/tablet is more powerful than that I find crazy
As a technician stand point when i fitst saw this is was " Oh hey look a Microsoft Surface Competitor " but when i saw the specs and the performance of this thing made me realase that AMD has done a great work on newest Gen APU but what i am worried about is that even if that thing pakcs such great specs i think the hardware fault level will be huge . Though having a 2.5k Screen is great i think a 165hz was overkill.Could Gone 120hz and made the price a little bit lower. While the Ram Config of 32gb was tempting i think that prb 64 would had been ideal as we all know that the APU love Fast and a lott of ram (could help bump the Vram a little bit higher if the bios could allow so as seen in the desktop variants) that would have been pretty nice knowing having a igpu that u could prb bump up ur vram to 12gb instead of 4 or 8 ,maybe that would help the igpu run games on its native screen and refresh rate without having to lose quality in the settings while still packing 32gb spare for productivity such as Adobe Apps.
This has got be so pumped up for the future I really hope Microsoft could take these apus and put them in their surface line and more laptops start using these
The price is bloody brutal. I once snagged a Surface Go 2 in the top spec for 299 bucks which I usual for very casual gaming. Something that size with a more powerful GPU would be awesome.
@@Ciffer-1998 Eh, not really. If Ryzen had flopped, Intel would be charging what they do for today's i9 hardware except it would still be 4 core, 8 threads or maybe 6/12 if they felt generous. All stagnation would mean is that the older parts would be relatively still close in performance to the new parts.
This looks like a great tablet. I hope minisforum will consider making a smaller 10 or 11" tablet that weighs less and maybe uses the 15w tdp for the 8840u. I would buy that in a heartbeat
There are some BIOS settings on that machine, which you can use to increase the power limit and dedicated VRAM memory. I'd like you to do that and see how the results improve.
You need to grab one of those tablet coolers. They work so well I was amazed. Place it where the GPU and CPU are and it will drop temps up to 20°c. That is not a typo.
The elephant in the room is the £1159 price tag. You can build a really good desktop for half that if you shop around for parts or you can buy a really good prebuilt for that kind of money. You can also buy a far better laptop for that kind of money, I paid £1150 for an i9 and 3070 Acer predator so I don't see where the company expect this machine to fit, what's it's niche? You can buy it for fun I suppose but who has over £1100 to spend for fun when there are far better alternatives out there.
I ran RDR2 on Windows 11 (Vulkan) yesterday, and did not have these framepacing issues. But i do run a mod to prevent stuttering, which did happen on my end without it, but not constantly like i see in this video. The mod actually increases the available VRAM for the process smoothing out loading hitches.
This looks like a really competent machine. With all of the extras included here, in the current configuration, this looks like a good competitor to the Surface Pro series, even for general usage. In fact, this is better than the most recent Surface Pro because it has a headphone jack, which the Surface Pro 9 doesn't have. I'd also recommend using the 65W charger all the time when gaming on it, because (a) you may well get lower performance on battery power (especially if using a more aggressive form of power saving), and (b) gaming on battery power will draw too much current and kill the battery regardless. Given that batteries generally aren't replaceable on devices like this, I wouldn't be stressing it too much.
this has a 165hz screen? That's gotta be a world first for a consumer tablet, really interesting product especially given the low voltage, but still high tier mobile AMD APU
This is one use case where an eGPU could make some sense. Connect it to one with an external monitor for a desktop-like gaming experience while still having plenty of power on the go.
I just watched 3 other videos of Minisforum V3 and they all confirm that it is superior to the new Surface 10 pro in CPU and iGPU, so for me it is something essential and more so because of the price difference this MINISFORUM V3 is $600 cheaper, and The most essential thing is its battery is better, it lasts much longer than the Surface 10 Pro, something essential when I work with it or go to the library to study.
Another good point of reference is my i9 7920x at 5ghz all core. That scores 21k points in r23. Its amazing that a 28 watt cpu gets as close as it does. Keep in mind im pulling around 370 watts just for 21k multi core.
@@RandomGaminginHD i spent just under $300 for my board and cpu. X299 is a very underrated budget platform right now especially with 420mm aios only being around $100.
A lot of power for a tablet. Must be at least 100x faster than my 1st gen Surface Go. That one will reach 100% CPU usage just installing windows updates.
The price isn’t too bad for what you’re getting compared to some other tablet handheld gaming pcs with 32gb of ram and an 8840u. Also using fsr should always be tried first with any amd apu. It just works so good and on a screen in an handheld its quality is going to look epic with fsr balanced on top the base resolution being set at the native.
It feels like this is targeting laptop users who want a lighter form factor without going all the way down in size to a gaming handheld. And they might have a market there. Will be interesting to see how this goes for them.
