Summoning Gate Guardian, and winning the game, AND doing it all in just 5 turns? Only way this could've been harder is if you made Calvin make every move while speaking in rhyme just like the Paradox Brothers.

Five turns made this pretty impossible. The challenge should have been making Calvin speak 100% in rhymes during the entire duel while dealing the killing blow with Gate Guardian.

Sophia Goddess of Rebirth would be hilarious to watch him try to summon. One face-up Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz required as a tribute for special summon (from the hand).

Tbf, if the 5 turn timer wasn't there, calvin looked pretty good. He coulda probably stalled out alec and eventually get gate guardian on the field

The moment I heard "you have 5 turns to summon GG and assemble lethal" I knew it was gonna be a rough one lmao The GG pieces just share absolutely no synergies except for the level 7 thing

The 5 turn limit was bizzare and a needlessly difficult stipulation. The card is already hard enough to get out there

It's a shame that it's my job to stop Calvin from using my favorite monsters. But I'll do it if it's the last thing I'll do! 😤

Gate guardian is one of the most gutted anime-ocg/tcg cards ever, almost as much as the god cards (fitting given its HARDER to summon). In duelist kingdom its full effects were: 1. Can be special summoned from DECK, not just hand, and summon cannot be negated 2. Can reduce foe strength to 0 3 times post summon 3. Can negate any 2 effects that would destroy/remove this card from the field 4. Can attack 3 times per turn. Then on release it got turned into a vanilla monster :(

What makes this series so great to watch is that it's a good break from the overly large focus on competitive yugioh that LITERALLY EVERY OTHER CHANNEL looks at. There's a few exceptions to this, maybe progression series? It's fun to just watch two people sit down, chill out, and have a fun game of yugioh with no competition behind it. The deckbuilding challenge just makes it more compelling and funny to watch as they scramble to find cards to put together a ridiculous deck to summon a big chonky monster that (basically) does nothing. 10/10 content, keep it up.

The fact Calvin was still so close to completing this challenge was impressive.

I agree with others in that the 5 turn limit is too small for this challenge. However, he got VERY close to doing it anyway so props to him! How about Destiny Board for a future challenge?

The way I did it. Mausoleum all 3 and eventually draw Gate Guardian. Shockingly it took longer than 5 turns

for the next one, how about winning via destiny board's winning condition? lol

Balancing idea: Make gate Guardian an XYZ, give it a steroided Guardian effect, piercing damage; Additionally Maybe make the Attack 4750 instead, also a detach effect like: Once per turn you can reduce this card's Attack by 500 & Detach a matiral then destroy any Monster on the feild. (Not a targeting effect) (Piercing effect only works while you have matirals) Oh also maybe make the pices let you search a Guardian spell or smth & also for an on summon effect it searches another peice of Gate Guardian.

Oh my gosh this card, I have bad memories of trying to summon this card when I was younger before Duel Links came out and even after Duel Links came out.

The craziest part of these challenges to me is that Calvin is actually building some pretty strong decks. At least from what I can tell going against structure decks. Most times the only thing stopping him is the turn limit so even when he doesn’t get the dub it’s still impressive. From what I’ve heard most people don’t like pendulum summons and they kinda confusing but that combo looked fun

Zushin The Sleeping Giant looks like a... fun... card to try and summon! "Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by Tributing a monster you control with 10 Zushin Counters. Once per turn: You can reveal this card in your hand, then target 1 Level 1 Normal Monster you control (keep this card revealed until the end of this turn); place 1 Zushin Counter on it. Unaffected by other cards' effects. If this card battles a monster, during damage calculation: ATK/DEF of this card become equal to the current ATK of the monster it is battling +1000, during that damage calculation only." It isn't once per turn, so playing multiple is so on the table! I dug through soooooo many cards on omega and this card immediately made me think of this series! Keep up the great videos guys!

I kinda want to see if Calvin can summon Exodia Necross. Mostly because you can only have one of each Exodia card (Right arm, right leg, left arm, left leg and Exodia the Forbidden One) in your deck.

Funny thing is, while Yu-Gi-Oh was still new and had only 2 starter decks and packs (Seto Kaiba and ofc Yugi decks), there was a special deck only to summon this monster and even with that deck and old rules, it was nearly impossible to summon it :D Great Design whoever did it...

With all the cards Konami has brought back over the years, I'm surprised there was never an attempt to turn this into an archtype. Retrain the 4 monsters, add in 3 new elemental summons and possibly add different Guardians as combinations. It would be like a strange Monarch deck.

Well in duel links there is a skill that sumons sanga kazijin suijin for free but there efects are negated you only have 500 lp and the only card you have in hand gate guardian

My brother used to actually use Gate guardian if I remember right....if not it was just Suijin

I just noticed that Alec used Magician of Faith to summon Encode Talker. Encode requires 2+ Cyberse monsters. Magician of Faith is Spellcaster. Probably doesn't matter, since its effect wasn't used, and Tri-Gate could've been used in its place.

Props to Calvin for being able to think of these strats. Even if they don't always work, they're still smart and really cool! You should do one of these with the Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth. It's super tedious to get out, and doesn't have a positive effect to back up waiting 6 turns. The 3500 atk is nice, but it hardly matters when there's alot of ways to take it out pretty easily. So, I'd say it's bad enough to work >=)

Calvin Can't it seems. Though a few cards that would be fun for the series, Sophia goddess of rebirth- needs a synchro, xyz, and a ritual monster anywhere on the field so you or opponent. Spirit of the Pharoah, which requires the first second and third sarcophagus to be on the field before it can be summons. Vennominaga, the Deity of Poisonous Snakes which requires Vennominon the King of Poisonous Snakes and rise of the snake deity. Fushioh Richie which requiers the monster the Great Dezard to destroy atleast 2 monsters in battle, and since it is a level 6 it requires atleast 1 tribute for a monster with below average stats for a level six now a days at 1900 atk and 2300 def.

The numeron engine is actually pretty good for tribute decks and even this challenge as you can use that one spell that lets you draw 4 cards (one or each exceed monster). I saw Dzeef using it in a Slypher deck

That monarch deck had Soul Charge...it was banned January 2019. It's ok, Monarchs haven't been good in a while, so it's hard to update every single deck.

Building Decks, I found a great card for this very challenge: Spirit of the Pharaoh: It must be summoned by the effect of "The First Sarcophagus", which has to by its own effect activate "The Second Sarcophagus" and "The Third Sarcophagus" from your hand or deck (Either can not be activate on their own). And all it does is Special Summon 4 Level 2 or Lower Zombie Vanilas from the GY. I mean sure from there you can probably make some XYZ or Link plays, but that is way to much work for a few Vanila Zombies. Also you first gotta put those Zombies in the GY

I had so much fun collecting the 4 pieces as a kid, back then we could only either buy booster packs or trades, I didn't even know what ebay was. Fun times.

The thing about the "effect" that Gate Guardian has is that it's not even an effect. It's just a restriction that requires you to tribute 3 monsters that actually DO something, just to play a beatstick. I guess it can be useful as an equip card if you play the XYZ monster: Zubaba General, and add its 2000 atk to GG's 3750. But seeing as to how monster effects are more versatile than ever in the meta nowadays, unless if your opponent can't do anything to stop your attack, even a big bump-up wouldn't matter.

That ursarctic deck might have helped him... but I can't even conceptualize the idea of getting them to turn up in 5 turns. Because he could toss them with ursaarctic deck and revive with call of the haunted... Or use that deep sea field spell to pull the water one. Also... Odd eyes advance dragon would supplement monster reborn or call of the haunted. Though drawing them would be sad... unless he was able to use a card like Berserker soul. to mill the graveyard. So much fun! I don't play yugioh enough against people to know if it is actually viable, but I think it would have dug pretty deep.

Here's a tough challenge: Successfully use the effect of either Zone Eater of Swordman from a Distant Land (I think that's what it's called?). There are cards which moves the turn order ahead one turn, I don't think it's banned, just pretty useless, but it probably would effect Zone Eater.
