From this break dancer to another dancer I say, he has rhythm, timing, technical ability, skill and most importantly, soul in his dancing. Gets a 10/10 from me. I loved it!
It was especially interesting to me to hear him express his need to have his footwork fit the music. My Uncle Arnold born in the late 1800's could do a dance without music being played but you knew what the tune was by his steps...I had never seen anything like it. It is a pleasure to watch Mr. Maupin dance.
@@monoped8437 There are many different steps and moves. Fitting the music means to choose the steps that best serve the music. I think you would understand what he means if you learned to do this type of dance yourself.
It’s called buck dancin or flatfootin and don’t worry we won’t let it disappear, it’s still pretty common here in southern Appalachia which is where it’s from. If you’re anywhere that has bluegrass or old time music you’ll inevitably see someone buck dancin
My friends admire me for my dance moves but l have high respect for these kind of dancers. I do Polynesian, Spanish, ballroom and cultural dances but l never got the chance to learn to tap dance.
You know when i was a little squirt my uncles put taps on my shoes...on the weekends they would put me on the kitchen table and boy would i go to town. Need to get some taps...you guys just woke this 70 year old up😍😍😍
tiredmummy I just saw him dance a few weeks ago at the Berkeley Old Time Music Convention. He wasn’t as spry as he is in this video, but the music is definitely still in his feet. It was a real treat to see him dance.
i love these videos showing culture of how people lived in the past. this will soon be gone i hope this man teaches this to some younger kids and they keep it going.
So many people spend their time making easy things look hard. Refreshing when you see someone making something hard look easy. This ain’t easy! Nice job!
handleopera, thanks so much for sharing this video of Thomas Maupin buck dancing. It is my first time seeing this and so grateful to see this. God bless you, and yours, in Christ Jesus' name. Amen ! "
That was very good... so enjoyable to watch great talent. I have never heard that term "buck dancing" before... when I was young I did tap dancing... similar...
