@LetsTalkAboutMathRock

Was going to but I really didn't listen to much new music this year, plus there weren't that many releases. Some records I did listen to and really enjoyed were: Gulfer - Gulfer Covet - technicolor Standards - Fruit Island Floral - Floral LP 👌 You may have noticed even the fecking bahamas didn't do a top releases of tjis year. Haha

If I had to offer my own in addition to Technicolor and Fruit Island, I liked: Nothing At All by Nothing At All Wake Up Pls by Woes Identical Triplets by Fer Sher Unsteady Hands by Positioner Good Kid 2 by Good Kid (not really math rock I don't think but scratches the same itch for me) Overall a pretty light year I guess considering these are all EPs...

I highly recommend the neural plugins. I run the Archetype Plini and you can get some really pretty and clean tones. Great amp sim. You can get the plugin for ~$100 and if you pair it with a budget low latency interface like a Focusrite Scarlett, you are in business! Im envious of your main rig though, such a clear tone with lots of sparkle! Definitely have the ultimate setup!

Do you like/recommend the Squier 50s Classic Vibe? Especially compared to the cheapest standard Fender Tele? I'm not really a math rock/midwest emo head, looking for a more a kinda standard 90s indie sound.

Your original set up was pretty interesting. A morning glory clone, a vox preamp, and fender amp emulation. Kinda have all the major sounds in one rig. Now you have a morning glory as your primary drive and a booster of which I don't know the origin of the circuit. Was getting flatter frequency response for more control over your sound a part of these decisions? I imagine it makes production much more of a breeze.

I bought the book after watching this! So far I'm only a little bit into it, I can already tell it is worth much much more than it's selling price! How do you like the NUX Morning Star? I'm thinking about getting this, we don't get to hear it too much by itself. How do you like using it? Do you leave it on when you kick in the DS-1?
@LetsTalkAboutMathRock
@LetsTalkAboutMathRock 3 года назад
Thanks! Appreciate your kind words. The morning star is excellent. It's based on blues breaker style overdrives. It has a second function if you hold down the switch too. This makes it into a really hot overdrive signal which sounds awesome too. I didn't leave it on in this video. However, there are two ways you could do this. You could either have it before or after the distortion pedal, both would give you different sounds so try both and see which one you like more. Of course, you could just run the DS1 on it's own, but honestly it's not a great sounding pedal, too boxy sounding.

Would you recommend a telecaster that also has a humbucker? like the G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Electric Guitar - Sonic Blue? I think the guitarist in Hot Mulligan uses one with a humbucker too I was just wondering how that would change the sound

I bought a HOF2 Mini reverb pedal and have a compressor and a vox over the top. But I have no idea what setting(toneprint) on the HOF2 mini reverb to use to get close to a mercury 7. I've seen so many mathrock artists using Mercury7 s but i just dont know if its really worth it or maybe i could make a clone toneprint of the mercury 7 sound. I dont even know if its that important. I just think your tone and the tones of people like Ichika or Tim Henson or Yvette young are so cool. But maybe im just not quite at the level to even be messing with the more expensive stuff. Idk x_x i could really use some advice

Hey Steve, what’s your opinion of the Ultra Telecaster?
@LetsTalkAboutMathRock
@LetsTalkAboutMathRock 3 года назад
Haven't tried one. I really like the cobra blue colour though! With the new Professional II series having the heel joint cut there isn't much reason to go for the ultra besides the looks, different neck, and pickups. I've not heard great things about thw noiseless pickups but then again I've never played them. 👍

Great video? I have a question: What are the bands of the thumbnail?
@Tsudkyk
@Tsudkyk 2 года назад
Guitar players forget they have really amazing bass and treble controls on their guitars. If the top string has a little too much bass- roll back the volume to 7 or 8. If your treble side is a bit harsh, roll back your tone to your liking. I modified my MIM strat and installed 2 phat cat pickups. I run a tubed amp on the clean channel, roll the guitar volume to 7 and turn the amp up just before I get any preamp break up, then when I need a boost just roll the volume to 10. It sends me right into a nice transparent breakup- retaining note articulation and allowing chords to blossom.
@Channel__T
@Channel__T 3 года назад
Any tips for the boost with either distortion? I feel like the boost makes the distortion sound terrible when they’re both in
@jeremybrien
@jeremybrien 3 года назад
You can boost with an EQ pedal to help tame things if you’re not running things into a DAW. The boss ge-7 does a good job and you can find those used for pretty cheap these days.

Hey dude (and watchers), i have a problem and thought, why not just ask here. So at the moment i'm looking at reverb pedals, but i'm in a HUGE dilemma: i can buy a Boss CS-2 made in Japan for 110 euros, or just a regular CS-3 for 45 euros... It's a big price difference for a student, however, i just really like the CS-2 MIJ sounds compared to the CS-3. Do you think it'd be worth it? Since, if someone's just listening without knowing what i'm playing, they'd probably never hear the difference... Looking forward to any answer and experiences!
@stndrd3608
@stndrd3608 3 года назад
Chances are you‘ll always be longing for that Japan pedal because you love the tone. So I would say go for it, maybe you can find one used or b stock slightly cheaper. But I reckon down the line you‘ll sell the cs3 to get the cs2 you originally wanted. Regarding non guitar people, you probably could use the cheapest reverb and they wouldn’t notice.

5:45 vs 10:17 is it just money? The Squier sounds like crap, distant, dull, dead. The amp + Strymon amp simp sounds present, close, articulate, clear while having hair... Is it just money? Or is the Squier just recorded more quietly? Where in this system can money be spent to gain the greatest return? At the origin, the guitar/pickups? At the end, the Amp? In the digital processing of the reverb? In the gain stages? Where is the best bang for your buck?
