I'm having trouble with double ties or slurs, starting with the first note connecting the next logical note and also connecting a note further along the bar. How do I do that?

I need help with the slur feature. For some reason, it only allows me to tie, not slur. I know the reason for it (there are two notes tied together), but I just don't know how to get the slur feature back. Help?
