Michele Locatelli Onboard Lap with the Civic Ep3 Turbo at Misano World Circuit
P4 on PRO3700 class with best lap 1.46.5 with old slick tyre Hankook
WeekEnd report of the race in the Misano circuit for the final stage of Time Attack Italy.
On Saturday, Michele Locatelli was able to test the car on the circuit for his first time, allowing me to collect interesting data thanks to the Emtron control unit and Aim data acquisition.
Immediately in the first laps Michele managed to score an excellent 1.46.8 in free practice which obviously sparked our hopes despite the slick tires used. Unfortunately, in the second free practice session on Saturday, the lap time got up due to the now finished slicks.
After these two shifts on Saturday afternoon we locked ourselves in the box until late in the evening to review the suspension settings and angles, modify the traction control calibration and the power requests based on the gears engaged, trying to adapt the car to the requirements of the driver to recover everything possible despite the now finished tires.
On Sunday we tried to keep up with the times we had recorded the previous day trying to understand how to improve further thanks to the real-time feedback between Michele driving and Jacopo Ardemani on the box wall in radio communication.
During the lunch break we were once again focused on the suspension settings so that we could make the most of the second set of used slick tires we had.
The excellent teamwork was rewarded by Michele, who in the superlap managed to secure an excellent P4 in the PRO3700 category with a time of 1.46.5.
The first appearance of the Civic Turbo in the time attack race was a huge satisfaction for me, everything worked perfectly both mechanically and electronically. This kind of reliability allowed us to focus solely on suspension adjustments trying to get all the potential out of the slick tires we had.
The car collected over 70 laps of the track between Saturday and Sunday, a noteworthy performance for this old lady.
The traction control in torque management, the electronic wastegate and the paddleshift gearbox all managed by Emtron proved to be indispensable also the Quaife QKE8J Sequential Gearbox!

Nella giornata di sabato , Michele , ha potuto provare l'auto sul circuito per la sua prima volta permettendomi di raccogliere dati interessanti grazie alla centralina Emtron e all'acquisizione dati Aim.
Subito nei primi giri Michele è riuscito a segnare un ottimo 1.46.8 in prova libera che ovviamente ha acceso le nostre speranze nonostante le gomme slick usate. Nel secondo turno di prove libere del sabato purtroppo il tempo sul giro si è alzato a causa delle slick ormai finite.
Dopo questi due turni del pomeriggio di sabato ci siamo chiusi nel Box fino a tarda sera per rivedere setting e angoli delle sospensioni, modificare la taratura del traction control e le richieste di potenza in base alle marce inserite cercando di adattare l'autovettura alle richieste del driver per recuperare tutto il possibile nonostante i pneumatici ormai finiti.
Nella giornata di domenica abbiamo cercato di mantenere il nostro passo sui tempi che avevamo registrato nel giorno precedente cercando di capire come migliorare ulteriormente grazie ai feedback in tempo reale tra Michele alla guida e Jacopo sul muretto box in comunicazione radio.
In pausa pranzo eravamo nuovamente concentrati sui settaggi delle sospensioni in modo da poter sfruttare al meglio il secondo treno di gomme slick usate di cui disponevamo .
L'ottimo lavoro di squadra è stato ripagato da Michele, che nel superlap è riuscito ad assicurarsi un ottimo P4 nella categoria PRO3700 con il tempo di 1.46.5.
La prima apparizione della Civic Turbo nella gara del time attack è stata un'enorme soddisfazione, tutto ha funzionato alla perfezione sia meccanicamente che elettronicamente. Questo tipo di affidabilità ci ha permesso di concentrarci esclusivamente sulle regolazioni delle sospensioni cercando di tirare fuori tutto il potenziale dalle gomme slick di cui disponevamo.
La macchina ha collezionato oltre 70 giri di pista tra il sabato e la domenica, una prestazione degna di nota per questa vecchietta.
Il controllo di trazione in gestione della coppia , la wastegate elettronica e il cambio paddleshift tutto gestito da Emtron si sono rivelati indispensabili ma anche il cambio sequenziale Quaife QKE8J!
