Love Tom Jones! The lyrics "For there's a guard and there's a sad old padre Arm in arm, we'll walk at daybreak" mean he was executed in prison. This is his last dream the night before he dies. Heartbreaking song.

My dear late mother's (RIP) ultimate favourite singer, She absoultly loved him, his voice. We played this at her funeral couple years ago as we carried her coffin in, Must admit i shed a tear. When she saw him live for the first time back in the 80's it was the best evening of her life, She was on air on the way home. Any Tom Jones song is fine by me and reminds me of my mother.

It doesn't matter whether he's guilty or not - in the morning he will be walking to his execution, with his guard and the padre, the last two friends he will ever know, and then he's going home in a coffin. I heard this song when I was ten years old and I still remember crying out in shock at the denouement (big word, I'm proud) and I still remember how sad it made me feel. This song only really works the first time you hear it, because the next time you hear it, you already know how it ends. You can see the surprise in India's face when she realizes he's in prison, but she missed the significance of the line "arm in arm, we'll walk at daybreak".

This was well over 30 years ago and Tom was kind-of making a comeback at that time and I really didn't want to see him, but the ticket was cheap. WOW! I had forgotten how many songs he had written and recorded. What a performance that'll never forget. He was and is, in some ways, like Elvis or Engelbert with raw talent and a power voice. His voice filled the theater in a way that very few performers can. God given talent, that is. Still today, when I see Tom on TV, I think back and I'm so glad I saw him way back then. Good review!
