War is the worst thing humanity has ever conceived. Nothing compares. I'd say the song is definitely anti-war, it's a story about someone who had his life totally stripped away because of a war. And what did he get for it all? A painting on a wall and a crummy existence up until he decided to end it.

Tom actually toured with Primus for a while. Talk about genre bending! Tom is in a category all his own. It may be hard to say what his music is, but he is a genius!

I have actually not been as up on his newer stuff. That’s not been good of me- in the nineties he kind of lady behind his romantic period of songwriting, which is fine and there are still some songs in his cannon of 90s-present that harken back to that style, but of course his style has changed a lot (and it should) so I like hearing these. I bought a vinyl record of Orphans for my birthday 5 years ago and still haven’t properly heard it. I did hear an interview w him where he said he’s worried about the world or lack of it being left to his kids.. nuclear war was in that conversation.
