Hard to put into words how much I love this song. And I also understand why this is not many a Tool fans favorite. There is something about the way Tool composes their music. The texture of tension and release are just unmatched by any other band. And Maynard has this ability to draw you in to his world of emotional turmoil and u feel it. Well I think I do at least. It’s just a hauntingly beautiful song.

It's the lyrics that set their music apart from other bands. The lyrics are deep, not for blockheads to understand. I've heard bands come into success by screaming and/or repeating the same tired line over and over again. Been a Tool fan since the early 90's, the music moves me emotionally.

As I said before, I feel like Maynard's pen game is excellent, and the lyrics of Tool's music, to me, has just as much poetry in them as the music itself. Unfortunately, it seems like a BUNCH of Tool music on youtube with lyrics in them have been taken down.... which is super awful... In general, this song is about the vocalist Maynard James (nickname Jimmy) Keenan experiencing his mother getting paralyzed from a brain aneurysm when he was 11 years old. The song's lyrics are kind of like current day Maynard trying to re-connect back to his 11 year old self that he felt he lost because of that experience. And in the song, he wants to console his child self, in order to go through his own healing and coming to grips with what happened. You knocked out one from part one of my metal requests: Cynic - Carbon-Based Anatomy (find the FULL live performance video in Japan, and jump to 42:20. The audio is great in that one). Deftones - Rosemary (if you do the lyrics ones, do the one from Korn & Deftones Fan. The other lyrics video at the top of the search may have a questionable image to it. I recommend just the studio version without the lyrics though, as the music feels like you're soaring through space). Devin Townsend -- Kingdom (studio version if you want the best of Devin's voice, live at EMGtv if you want to see some of his personality, with his voice having a touch of growling to it).

I think you guys would really enjoy Tool - H.W.A.P. (w/lyrics) There are some explicit lyrics, but it’s not about what the title suggests. It’s basically a F-you track about a fan that told them they were selling out. It’s one of their most aggressive/angriest songs. If you don’t mind a few f-bombs, this song is a must.

Just came across your channel in my recommendation. Really like your reactions. So I subscribed. Can't wait for more. For me the 80's was age 5 to 15. So I literally grew up in the 80's. I was a rock and metal fan for life! Still enjoying it today. Keep it up guys!

This song is about his mom. When he was 11, his mom had a brain aneurism and was basically in a wheelchair for the rest of her life, hence why he kept saying 11 throughout the whole song. Also Maynard tends to have his vocals low in the mix because he sees his voice as another instrument , which is why it’s hard to hear sometimes. If you want a tool headbanger check out The Pot

You have to read the lyrics while you listen to the songs. No one goes deeper with the lyrics then James, he is one part of what makes this band so great. There is nobody better at writing lyrical content

This is one of my favorite songs by Tool, but it's also about the biggest mixed bags they have. Jimmy is fantastic, and you want to get into it, but knowing what the song is about makes it such a heavily emotional song that just doesn't feel right to "rock out" too. You guys need to pull up the lyrics, watch it again and see how much your reaction will actually change. Because I can almost guarantee that it will. Also, by not knowing the lyrics, you are literally missing out on 1/4 of the band. It's like trying to ignore the guitar, the bass, or the drums.

No! You absolutely need lyrics. Don't do the videos. But you do need the lyrics. The songs you didnt like from before. You would have if you had the lyrics. This song has a story behind it. And if you know that back story, the lyrics make perfect sense. And it makes it very powerful. Lyrics are a must. It's what I watch reaction videos for. The complete reaction. To not just the music. But the whole package. Which includes the lyrics. Those channels are the ones I really like. Hopefully you guys incorporate the lyrics and don't be afraid to have a discussion about them and the song as a whole and not just what you heard. .... Besides it will change your life if you do find out the messages, and that's a good thing. Promise.

I think watching with lyrics would be good for you guys. You seem to really like knowing the words, so it may help out. But I can help you out a little with some post-listening understanding. The song is named after Maynard himself (James can be nicknamed Jimmy). The song is about his mother suffering her brain injury in his youth, and him being forced to leave her and live with his father. It was not a good situation for him. The whole song talks about being haunted by the past and waiting for the day you can move on from it and begin to heal. I really love the line: "I'll move to heal as soon as pain allows so we can reunite and both move on together." As for suggestions, I can only say give these a shot: Lateralus - Tool's masterpiece off what I consider to be their best album. They get the deepest into their odd time signatures and experimentation in this one. Invincible - Off their newest album so it's one of the 10minute+ ones. Incredible drums in this one, that make you feel like you're going to war. Ticks & Leeches - Their hardest song by quite a bit, made in response to the record execs telling them they needed a metal song for the radio. I would link you all to lyrics videos, but those all got demolished utterly when the songs first went up on digital platforms. You just can't find them any more. If you want lyrics you'll have to either pull them up separate, or I could put you together something with some forewarning on what song you were wanting to do next.

The lyrics make the song 10 times better. Just look up the meaning online. A majority of their songs are very deep and taken from true life experiences

Odd thing about Tool, at least for me, is I either really like the song or I don't care much for it. This one falls in the latter category. I never got into it. I wish I could place my finger as to why, I just can't. You guys are always at the top of your game however! Take care.

You have revised epic masterpieces and all you have to say is you didn’t understand the song. That’s disrespectful to the artist and people spending the time to watch your reviews. Why you guys keep going back in time with music? Always doing these old groups. Tool always sounds the same. From the begining. Believe me. I was alive when they first came out. For feal! Bush just came out with a new ablum. Same with Pearl Jam. Check out new bands. And old bands that are still reverent.
