Thank you so much for taking the time to show us how exactly it should be done. Its always nice to see someone else put it together the way you showed in detail. Saves a lot of time for most folks.
Great coverage of this table. I was looking at the Woodriver table on sale for $99 and your video convinced me to spend the extra money for this one. The Woodpecker table appears to be of better quality. Thanks for sharing. ~Pat
Ilike the way they attached the tracks ;not using screw in MDF. I'd have to put a mounting plate screwed to table with knobs as I use mine for a lot more than wood. Good video.
Thanks David. I was very impressed with the construction and design. I thought about making my own, but right now in my life, work and woodworking, too busy. Frank
Thank you for this video. I have the same OEM table on my Delta and have often wondered how a commercially designed table would work with it. I've built several tables for the press, for different applications/jigs, that can be swapped in a matter of seconds. Also fabricated provisions for my DP vises - various sizes - and a x/y table to sit firmly in conjunction with the slits in the OEM table. I mostly work with metal.
Hi Felix, thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, I am usually busy in the shop on client projects, so I don't get a lot of time to make jigs and such. So getting this drill press table was a quick and easy way to add versatility to it without creating another project that does not provide income at that time. I will eventually do the same....have multiple table tops based on project needs.
Thanks Neil. All of the Woodpeckers stuff is classy and well built. I especially like it that their tools are made in the USA! Yes, they are expensive, but they support American manufacturing and the American worker making a good wage. Frank
Thank you for your video and detailed walk through of the instructions. I am just getting ready to set up mine and although it doesn't look too difficult, it's always nice to watch how to do it first. Very much appreciated!
Thanks Cindy. That is the reason why I do more detailed videos rather than summary. Hope your install went smoothly and you are enjoying your new sander. Thanks for watching.
Do you notice how much you lose by what the fence takes up from the column. Your 15” drill press turns into a 3-4” drill press. I’m going to cut a half circle from the base as well as the big fence so you can gain a couple inches. I think it’s an inherent flaw in the design.
Hi Richard, yes I did notice that and I use the fence in reverse for those times I have a deeper hole to drill. I did actually upgrade to the newer version table from Woodpeckers and sold my current one in this video. I will end up posting a video on this new table.
One thing, I too like Made in America, and Woodpecker is not far from where I grew up, just outside of Cleveland OH. I bought the table without doing much research. I've bought a lot of Woodpecker products and never had a problem with any of them. But now I'm wondering. Will this work on a bench top DP or only the big floor mounts? Guess I'll find out when I try to install it. Other projects are ahead of this one! Thanks to anyone who says they put it on a bench top model.
It won't work right with some bench top drill press. Woodpeckers SHOULD tell you that you need a bare minimum of a six inch swing for this to work. Turns out I've got an Sears Crapsman bench top with a 5 inch swing, and there is no way it's going to fit on that thing. Even if it did there is no way that crank would make a full circle for table adjustments. Most bench top drill presses have a 7-10 inch swing so should be OK depending on table adjustment.
I took just bought the Grizzly benchtop drill press. Have same concerns about adding the Woodpecker table to this top - there's only 1 hole drilled through the Grizzly cast iron table - it the center hole for drilling through. The main table has T-slots only...ughhhh!
Nice shop Frank! I like the Woodpecker stuff. I just have a tiny drill press, so a bigger one with a nicer table is on the list. Keep up the good videos.
+Steve Carmichael Thanks Steve....appreciate the comment. I am a true Woodpecker diehard. I love their precision and being made in the USA! Thanks again Steve!
I wouldn't have attached the table the way you did way too much room for error. I would have pulled down the chuck/bit into the centering hole, locked it there then made my marks from underneath. For this system to work the right way that part of the install needs to be dead accurate. I really don't see the need to remove the table when you can do it from underneath and then you know it's accurate. Lastly, can't see why WP sells this table the way they do by not giving an option to buy it with one fence or the other. Typical WP making you buy two fences if you want the DP3..you will honestly never use them both, once you have the Dp3 you will never switch back to the other one and WP knows it. Overall nice dp table but way overpriced for what it is.
Hi Frank, I enjoyed your Video. Thank you. Did you, by chance, use the predrilled hole Woodpeckers had in the table top for aligning the drill bit? I was wondering if that was a useful feature for you. Again, good video. I got a lot out of it for my build.
Sorry for my delayed response Eric. Must have missed this comment. No, I really don’t. I typically just raise my table up and down as needed. Thanks for watching my video.
