Except it's illegal to ride a bike intoxicated, almost any rule for a driver is the same for a cyclist. At least it is here in Scotland.

@@krashd Aye, so is smoking a joint mate. But if you're not making a big deal out of it the police don't bother you. Cycled home from countless nights out in Glasgow, and some more worse for wear than others. Never been stopped by the police.

If your BAV exceeds the limit for operating a motor vehicle though, for which you hold a license, your license can be endorsed (points) or cancelled (>11 points accrued) and you can be fined. Chances of being breath-tested while posing so little risk to other people though is miniscule.

in Amsterdam no one uses a helmet and they have the best safety statistics for cyclists... there's a clue in there.

@@SilvioDiego cycle paths are the way to go for sure however helmets are a good idea. I've been saved by one after coming off and hitting my head on the pavement when I had to emergency dodge a youngster randomly running in front of me and it went wrong. The helmet actually cracked open from the impact however my head was completely fine. It very well could have been a different story without the helmet. I'm not the only person I know who's been saved by them so I'm very much a pro helmets guy
