The Sirens from Ice Age 4 had a unique version of them. They appear as mudskipper-like creatures with bulbous eyes and needle sharp teeth. They have the ability to use their voices to turn themselves into what their prey desire most. What makes them even more horrific is how they _flicker_ between forms.

Using the mermaid from Pirates of the Caribbean in the thumbnail, great choice. It was easily the best live action interpretation of a mermaid. The whole scene alone is a show stealer, pretty much what makes that movie so memorable. It captures the sense of magical wonder and mysteriousness with the fantastic score, eerie lighting, and not to mention the well done CGI. Then soon enough, they become terrifying creatures more than capable of taking down a whole ship in unison, drowning and eating sailors in a frightening display. Yet, the main mermaid (Syrena) still kept us enticed with a sense of wonder and loveliness, making her the favorite character for most of the audience. Not saying the movie was fantastic, but credit is due where credit is due. Someone, name a better interpretation, I dare you.

They mentioned scylla, caribdis and leviathan i want to see tiranus scylla and titanus leviathan (from legendary's monsterverse) and caribdis (from the time i got reincarnated as a slime)

Also, the stress is on the "na" in "bakunawa".

I wonder what it would be like to "live with the fishes". Like Aquaman, being able to breath underwater and all. I think it would be cool to live underwater. Or at least to travel in the deep sea.

One of my favorite creatures in folklore related to the water is the Selkie. Basically this female water fae of Scottish folklore, and Irish folklore is a seal/human hybrid who usually wants to start a family with a kind hearted man however the Selkie has a hatred towards guys that are scumbags basically the guys who are abusive towards their girlfriends/fiancées/wives, or willingly cheat on their significant other especially if the girlfriend/fiancée/wife has a child, and if a Selkie hears about or catches a guy acting like a scumbag and willingly doing these awful things she'll punish the guy acting like a scumbag by using her beautiful human form to lure him out to either a deep lake, or the ocean and then disappear into the water and trick him into the water where after a couple of seconds she'll pop up revealing her true form and then proceed to drown the scumbag guy.

We have only discovered the 5% of the whole ocean, anything can be down there

Actually that is a mistake, sirens and mermaids are two different sea creatures. They just resemble mermaids and have a lot of the same powers, but it's the siren that will use it's singing to lure sailors to crash their ships into rocks and then eat them. These two different creatures often get mixed up, remember Killer Mermaid? I didn't know Cetus was the name originally given to the creature that hero defeats, it's these days is called the Kraken.

The Kraken in Clash o' the Titans were technically the Cetus from Greek Mythology me hearties. They changed the name for two reasons. One, the name "Kraken" be more well known. And two, the phrase "RELEASE THE CETUS!!!" Sounds a bit like "RELEASE THE CEMEN!!!". Which wouldn't have sounded right as ye could understand.

There is a large octopus in the book, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea by Jules Verne. Interesting thought when you taked about the Kraken.

A few thoughts... 1. Personally I woulda put the Leviathan as #1. Since its something so much larger and more powerful and ancient. It's something... primordial. The kraken is huge and very powerful, and really cool, but I feel it gets more attention than it deserves.. Basically I woulda put it at like... maybe #5 and bumped the others up one. and maybe move sirens up a bit more. Cause otherwise I overall agree. 2. The kraken being a giant squid or octopus monster was only really a recent invention. It came about in roughly the 1500s or 1600s. Originally it was more like a kind of monsterous whale or shark creature, or an aquatic dragon (if i'm remembering correctly..). Just an FYI. And yes it is norse, not greek. Though really the monster squid thing could fit in any culture or region, honestly. It stays with you, has that type of power to it. Which is i guess why it gets used a lot. It's like the popular kid in school, but its only popular cause it looks cool. 3. Cecealia don't get enough attention.. and when they do, its usually as bad guys. And I sorta get why. Not having many myths about them, plus they look a lil weird. Its like mermaids are the pretty popular girls in school, and the cecaelia are the nerdy and/or goth girls that everyone ignores or makes fun of.

The Nuckelavee is the best sea monster. Ancient Scottish beast from the Orkney Islands that was a type of skinless centaur with poisonous breath. Absolutely brutal.

I wouldnt say that picking between scylla and charybdis is the same as the lesser of two evils, its more like between a rock and a hard place. The point is that both are equally as dangerous and so it is an impossible choice. If it was the lesser of two evils, then one of the 2 would have to be, well... lesser. Also, arent sirens bird women? They live near the water not in it.
