A rogue gamma ray is unlikely - but atmospheric neutrons/protons definitely cause Single Event Upsets (or SEU for short). The phenomenon occurs when cosmic particulate collides with atoms in the atmosphere and said particle(s) subsequently rain down on earth. If a sensitive node in a microelectronic device is struck by one of these atmospheric particles it can cause an SEU - also known as a bit flip. The likelihood of a bitflip occurring in memory is actually quite high - with the possibility of an SEU approaching 100% every 3 or so days per 4 gigabytes of memory. The rarity of the event lies in which particular bit is flipped and whether or not it results in a significant change. We first learned about and recorded SEU's in the 50s during nuclear testing when testers experienced issues with recording equipment. Nowadays most systems have options for Error Correcting Memory to prevent this issue. Bitflips can also occur due to trace amounts of radioactive elements found in some electronic chip-packages.

@6:30 I believe that the enemies were lagging the quick loading of the game, having all sprites, models, and collision rushed. The one in the green loaded *before* the wall’s collision as the door opened, pushing Bond through and sealing him out. Just a theory though!

I'd be more prone to believe the "gamma ray" explanation if it weren't for the fact that the upwarp happened just as Mario was colliding with something. Makes it seem more like something caused by the engine itself.

This list would have been better if you'd just got two more Mario clips and called it "Top 10 Weirdest Moments in Mario Speedrunning" and then made one for non-Mario games, because 8/10 of the list being Mario is kind of disappointing to watch

I love that, like, every "secret" level in sunshine have just so many bad glitches where people just fall through blocks and shit

For the Mario teleport I have no proof of this but I thought it might work this way- When Mario kicked it set the hit box in a position where Mario clipped into the box. The game then tried to resolve this issue by looking for a solid platform. However, since Mario was moving through the platform, it didn't count it as solid. The game then checked for solid objects starting from the top, found that platform, and teleported Mario up there.
