The DH quest really isn't that bad. It's free mana chest for combo decks and the reward wasn't even played 9/10 times. It was one of the best decks in standard until ilgnoth was nerfed.
Yes i was surprised to see it here, the quest itself might be garbage on other classes(ok, maybe rougue) but with DH card draw its pretty easy to complete at turn 5-6 and it allows for a more control-combo deck... btw i was telling everyone that glide will someday find a way to a extremely toxic deck on when it was spoiled. And go figure quest-glide DH is strong on the championship right now.
It even saw some niche play in Wild during Seedlock era. It wasn't amazing mind you, but its ability to cheese and lock out some decks from getting their questlines completed with nerubar, watch post, and glide and also had some threats to throw down with brute, it wasn't the worst deck. And it's pretty competitive in Standard, of course.
I have watched your YuGiOh content for many years now, either as background noise, sleep noise, or genuine curiosity about the meta, being a former casual player. I am EXTREMELY excited about this new channel and subscribed as soon as I saw the content, as I am a current competitive Hearthstone player and am much more familiar with the game and it’s nuances. Looking forward to what you have in store, you never seem to run out of great ideas!
It's kind of funny how your analysis of Final Showdown mirrors what people were saying when United in Stormwind was first revealed. But as many other people in the comments have pointed out, it was one of the centerpieces to demonhunter otk, which was so good they had to heavily nerf il'gynoth. And even after that, they had to nerf irebound brute, because the deck could spit out 3 6/7s with taunt on turn 4.
Other than final showdown the list is well thought out. I understand what you said on paper but one glance at a deck playing the card or playing against it you'll see how oppressive the quest can be
Definitely missed the mark on Making Mummies and Final Showdown, both were quite strong at the time. Hell, I still find good success with Final Showdown with C'thun the Shattered as the win condition
Final Showdown saw tournament level success and was the main demon hunter deck at the time, not so much because of the minion, although he was useful, but especially because of the cost reduction which played an important role in how the deck emptied and refilled its hand so quickly, which synargized with ire born brute allowing you to simply anihilate your enemies through massive tempo advantage and high scale agression with a cost efficent win more card as finisher. It doesnt matter if you only have like 3 cards reduced by it because at that point your enemy should be close to dead anyway. Hack the System warrior wasnt great but it certainly deserves a better spot than the number 1 on this list, the ability to spawn 4 golems with the 3/4 maze that can attack minions as often as it wants and can't go face, alongside the 2 mana draw 2 forge of souls made it playable, even if the quest it self is rather mediocere

Best/Worst Hero powers (Including upgraded ones, quest/questlines rewards and hero cards). Best/Worst Spells (for each class). Best/Worst Secrets. Best/Worst Common/Rare/Epic/Legendary Cards. Best Beasts/Murlocs/Mechs/Totems/Elementals/Pirates etc. Top 10 Abilities (Keywords) Top 10 Deathrattle/Battlecry Minions. Top 10 Best/Worst 1/2/...8/9/10 mana minions. Top 10 Weapons Top 10 Win condition cards (i.e: Malygos for maly otks, Jade Idols, Zul'Jin, Anyfin Can Happen) Top 10 Shadow/Arcane/Nature/Fire etc. Spells. Top 10 Card Draw cards. Top 10 "Mana cheating" (card cost discount) cards. Top 10 B/W Hero cards. Top 10 Cards that changed/shifted the meta. I can probably think of more for the next vid.
To answer the questions on Rise to the Occasion: Paladin has a hero power in duels to both summon a recruit and add a recruit to your hand, which does help with the quest. Lothraxion also exists, but in standard and soon to be wild, and allows the recruits to have divine shield, and makes it extremely hard to keep them off the board before they swarm. Also final showdown was enough of a presence at worlds to get nerfs. I can't at all call it anywhere near this list.
Making Mummies was actually not that bad, I reached legend with it. It had over 50% Winrate. You could also create a Reborn version of zilliax or powerful death rattle minions
It honestly peaked during Doom in the Tomb event, which briefly brought back fan-favorite Wild cards such as Flamewaker, Ragnaros, Evolve, and N'Zoth, the latter of which was a MASSIVE payoff card since it would resummon multiple copies of Khartut Defender at once. Khartut Defender is still particularly fantastic with OG N'Zoth, because Reborn making it die twice meant that even if you only managed to play one Khartut before playing N'Zoth, N'Zoth would summon two copies.
Yea I wasn't terribly surprised it was on the list, just because the rest of the competition was much better off, but I was surprised he put it at #2 tbh, I was able to reach legend with it going strong with a 62% Win rate, it just had awesome matchups against aggro decks
I really disagree with Final showdown being on the list at all, it might not have been the best, but it was decent, you could pretty easily slam irebound brutes on the board and have lion's fury as your finisher and it wasn't very hard to get around 15ish attack, not to even mention it being used in Il'gynoth decks, where it was most competitive, not for the quest reward, but the rewards for steps one and two, reducing the cost of your combo pieces
Uhhh… I disagree with a few of these takes. -Bazaar Burglary was meta when it was released and was a tier 2 deck for months. The three damage every turn would be constant value and we’re good for trading into minions or just pressuring face. I remember it being super annoying to deal with back then. -Rush minions being only good with other effects and being bad by default is just so incorrect. Rush is probably one of the best keywords in the game as the minions with it gain so much tempo. Clear the way wasn’t amazing but also is very undeserving of being on this list. Quest hunter ran it, which was a viable archetype in that meta, hence why you don’t list it here, it wasn’t a bad card. Early game having a 4/4 that could immediately trade into a minion and still be alive was very valuable, especially in a deck like quest hunter where you are swarming the board with a lot of rush minions anyways.
I wanna point out a few mistakes that were made in the video: Shaman quest: was a tier 1 deck at some point in Standard, and the quest was the reason, because it was needed to compete against control, but mainly it was a high tier 2 deck. Burgler Rogue: tier 3, peaked at tier 2 when it came out Paladim reborn quest: was atleast tier 2, maybe peaked tier 1 at one point. And finally the demon hunter quest: it still had something like a 90+% presetation in the world championship. Its not that good in ladder, mainly because its slow, but in worlds, it was the most represented deck (in the last one).
Small note for you Hiru the Firebolt at 10:29 is actually from an entirely separate mode in Hearthstone (hence the different look of it overall) and doesn't pertain to where the sidequest is apart of in the game.
Hearing you talk about a game that isn't Yu-Gi-Oh feels a little weird to me, to be entirely honest. But that is in no way, shape or form a bad thing, sign me up for more of these
are you aware that they do have several other channels beyond just this one and yugioh? They also have a world of warcraft and DnD channel. They're both listed in the 'channels' tab on their profile.
I play the rise to the occasion for fun. The aura effect stacks. So, using Brann, Zola and brewmasters, and ways to bounce her back, the recruits get big. There's also the demon legend that gives Divine shield. This being an aura really messes up priests who uses mirror to board clear. Pally keeps the attack/hp buff. Priest gets 1/1. Silencing a damaged recruit gets a full heal.
Rise to the occasion is also not that hard to achieve as he said. There are plenty of ways to generate one mana cards that you consistently complete the quest by turn 7, 5 if you get lucky. It used to be better before when the spells that summoned more Silver Hand Recruits haven't rotated but honestly it still does its job.
Yay! As a Hearthstone player who has switched over to primarily Magic and Yugioh, I'm excited to see where this channel goes! Hearthstone may not be as fun anymore, but it still has a rich and interesting history and also has interesting cards to discuss.
Clear the Way saw quite a bit of play from what I remember. Final Showdown has also seen play. I'd put those two above Last Kaleidosaur and Lakkari Sacrifice.
Lakkari Sacrifice really deserves to be put lower on the list in my opinion. It's just so bad, it's even garbage in Duels with the discard hero power and all the discolock synergy pieces
Weapon only decks may not work, but I find weapon turbo (i.e. get a weapon and stack damage on it) can work pretty well casually. e.g. Shaman Doomhammer turbo
Hot take: Rise to the Occasion is a good card. Cards like Pen Flinger may not work multiple times for one quest step, but with clever timing on spells one Pen Flinger can count for multiple steps. First Day of School is a Paladin spell that covers full steps of the quest on their own, and Lothraxion the Redeemed and Pursuit of Justice makes the Silver Hand recruits far more effective, with me consistently having a hero power of summoning 2 4/3s with divine shield every turn as early as turn 6! I'm still working on optimizing my deck but it's legit been one of my favorite decks to play in the game!
The Last Kaleidosaur is also just used as a build around in wild so that you can benefit off of cards like Questing Explorer, Licensed Explorer, and Sky General Krag to help you get to your win condition. Although It isn't a top tier deck, it's pretty interesting In how the quest is utilized. The Final Showdown was actually a pretty strong tax deck in wild and was first created by Otters. It was around tier 2 or tier 3 and was pretty good until Ironbound Brute got nerfed from 7 mana to 8 mana which basically killed the deck.
Haha, for real, I Loved Making Mummies because you can copy your cards, you don't need to have a entire deck with only reborn, I used good Desthbreaths to summon Big Minions, and Cariel maybe looks bad but If you use a minion that can return her to the hand you can use her battlecry again, 2 5/5 Minions for 2 mana looks better, with 7/7 is even Better, and paladin has Lothoxarion, the only demon from the class, with Battlecry to give your recruits Divine Shield forever (and Cariel's buff does NOT dissapear when the recruits are silenced).
Final showdown being bad is straight up wrong. Its probably the most played questline ever and is still heavily played in otk demonhunter, which is currently a top meta deck in tournaments
I think the place of Making Mummies can be contested; Paladin uses this a lot for mid range with Kharut Defender, the 1/2 medibot with reborn, and the robot egg to create a line of reborn minions that buff and heal every turn with it's only weakness being big board clears which few classes had at the time. It doesn't have game winning potential in it of itself but I thought it was fairly decent in casual and competitive play.
just as an editor's note for future, questlines do start in your opening hand. they're functionally identical to quests, benefitting from all quest synergies, just having the difference that they have 3 rewards built in rather than 1. with that said, loving these videos. very excited to see more. there's just nothing out there like this for hearthstone that's as of high a bar as your yugioh channel
Honestly sanctuary is pretty good in my experience. I've had a few people coin it out on turn 1 and suddenly I have to try really hard to damage them or they get a big body super early that gives them huge advantage. It's just an annoying thing your opponent has to upkeep lest you get a decent body.
Kibler got to legend with at least three of these quests. You just have to be one of the most decorated tcg players ever to make them work, easy stuff really Also you hit card draw off illidari study which is such a crazy card. Outcast has pretty much anything you'd want in one card and Illidari study insta sets them up. I know playing DR DH Illidari Study does a lot of work just grabbing extra skulls let alone hitting glide against huge hands. What a nutty card.
The Rise to the occasion does look bad at first glance but I use it and its really decent. You just need the right cards to work around it and the Silver Hand recruits.
I would put Jungle Giants or The Marsh Queen over Final Showdown. Final Showdown seemed weak initially, but between irebound brute tempo, Illganoth OTK, and Wild Tax DH, it's actually seen relevance. Marsh Queen may have been the quest that made Lifecoach quit, but it hasn't really lived up to the hype it got.
The dh quest isnt bad at all, at the last worldchampionship otk dh run this quest and it wasnt only the most popular deck in the Tournament also the winning deck
Quest Hunter used the side quest. Lerroy and unleash the hounds where a finishing combo for that deck. Speaking for standard for when it was in rotation. (Can’t speak for wild). This was also back when there was more room for home brew decks, unlike the current metas we’ve been seeing recently. I won’t debate Hack the system. I brought it to high legend, but didn’t see anyone with it. I used risky skipper and armor smith to get a lot of armor in Aggro matchups, and used the endless waves of 4/3 against control matchups. Corasair cache also gave +1+1 to weapons back then.
I will call you out on Rise to the Occasion. While I understand it in the context of wild, Rise to the Occasion is a good deck in standard as a tier 2 deck.
For my first few Top 10 suggestions: Top 10 Cards that Used to be Broken... An example I can think of would be Mysterious Challenger. I think it'd be interesting to hear your thoughts on why certain cards used to be broken and how the meta has changed and power creep has made the cards either too weak or just not good enough. Top 10 Cards that were moved to the Hall of Fame (when it still existed)
I dusted that demon hunter quest almost immediately. There was ever a time I thought I would even attempt to make it work. Galvadon is a fun wild deck but it's definitely not the game finisher and outclassed by other cards like the one that puts all spells back inyo your hand or the one that casts them all on it at once
In my opinion, the worst quest ever is still the Raid the Sky Temple from Uldum. It may have been very easy to complete, but the reward was really weak. And 1 1/2 expansions later, they added The amazing Reno, who would provide a much better hero power - for free and with an amazing battle cry! Even if you played "Quest Mage", you would only keep the hero power for a few turns between completion and 10 Mana / draw Reno. Very similar to Neeru Fireblade and The Demon Seed in the current rotation.
@@bulkathos5207 I like them too! I think the idea of the quest was cool, but it was too weak - and got deleted by Reno (who's hero power was more rng fun too xD) Maybe if it was "Add a random spell that costs 3 or more to your hand. It costs 3 less" it would've worked.

I don't completely agree with you with number 4, 3 and 2. Clear the Way was played with Unseal the Vault. Hunter rush cards at the time either generated more rush minions or drew you rush minions. There are even more cards today that generate rush minions so it is basically 1 mana 4/4 rush. I used Final Showdown to good success against Kazakusan Druids. Maybe you should have waited on the video after the current mini set was released as some support for Final Showdown was printed. Making Mummies was good against control decks and the best target for its Hero Power was the Paladin's Mechano-Egg. I feel like Hunter's The Marsh Queen could have taken a spot in your list since when it was released you had to gimp your deck with 1 mana cost minions that generally do no generate more 1 cost minions or refill your hand. The quest reward also is not that great. Secure the Deck is another sidequest that I don't think I ever seen played.
This might seem like a bit of a nitpick, but please read the cards a bit better. There are some minor errors that are understandable (saying a'dal instead of aldor), but there are some times where it's kind of hard to tell if you've just made an error in your script, or if you've misunderstood the actual effect of the cards. The biggest example is when you say that Cariel only buffs Silver hands that you summon later, when it actually also buffs any you already have in play, something which can make a big difference in certain board states.
That Murloc Quest was actually quite decent for a value deck at the time. I used to play it with Shudderwock or Zola and go to fatigue against Taunt Quest Warriors and win.
In My opinión the worst weakness of the paladín questline its your Silver recruits are not good defending yourself If Blizzard add something like make your here inmune while having Silver recruits in board maybe the card can be better.
Gotta disagree with most of the spots in the video. Most if not all of the quests in the video (except lakari sacrifice) are viable in their time since there were always support cards to make them work.
@@ricardadue3128 even then you had the 2 mana murloc that would return spells cast on him with deathrattle. Also that troll that would reshuffle in deck. Not saying that galvadon decks had a high Winrate since he is more meme than strategy
@@monsieurm3989 Tbh I didn't play at that time yet, I only started when Rise of Shadows came out, but I alwas played Wild and came across Galvadon like max 2 times in my Hearthstone History. In only really know about the quest due to Solems and especially Roffles Videos, where they always said how mucj he sucked. But good to know
Murloc quest made me legend 1 and it made murlocs a refill chance you basically play up to 100 murlocs Quest easily progs turn 4 and you win mostly even without it and in games were you dont win turn 5 you refill 10 murlocs and put all of them down turn 6
Man duellogs is on fire , btw this is my first encounter with another card game besides yugioh , and seeing the short text words of those cards makes me realise the text problem with yugioh .
The demon hunter questline is one of the best quest ever. It made otk demon hunter one of the top decks when the games power level was at its highest ever. It was on the same tier as questlock and garotte rogue.
I played risse to the occasion, and won any match with that deck, I remember only using 12 1-mana cards and most of the time i had finish the quest by turn 4-6
@@monkaWGiga I personally preferred the “Can’t be targeted by spells or hero powers” sense at the time, if I remember right, it was harder to do removal on it without using something important.
Hey! I love your videos, i watch a lot of your yu gi oh videos even when i have never really played it in a non basic way. But hearthstone is something that i really know, and i have to tell you that you are wrong with the DH quest. It is extremely strong, multiple cards had to get nerfed because of it, OTKs, the brutes, etc. They just don't like to nerf quests so they have to nerf things around them. The OTK DH deck, and its variations, were some of the strongest decks when in the hands of a really good player, could circunvent almost any matchup, it saw plenty of competitive deck and almost every single player brought dh decks to tournaments. So just that, i think it does not deserve a spot on this list, i would even have it in a top 10 best quest.
I totally disagree with the rush minions being bad. Rushing minions are one of the best minions, even making the entire core of a warrior deck (rush warrior). And clear the way was somewhat used mission on quest hunter with the quest to summon 20 minions thanks to the weapon that you showed and the 1/1 springpaw from rastakhan's rumble. Idk if it's good enough to not be on the video but it's definitely better than sanctuary. I also disagree with the DH quest since it saw competitive play with otk decks with il'gynoth. The thing you didn't mention is that tradeable cards also count and these cards help a lot completing the quest without running out of cards.
Bro, do you even play HS or watch competitions? The world championships was won by someone playing the DH quest, as the final game even. And almost every player brought that deck. And also, it was even used THIS WEEKEND in the master's tour by finalists.
Love seeing you branch out to HS too, Hiru. I've been watching your Wow content since.. well since you started, always loved your vids. But idk how genuine your HS content is, since I watched your stream last month where you said you don't know much about this game. I guess you have a great script writer.
