Speaking of World War 1 inspired Metal you should try the new 1914 album “The blind leading the blind.” Think you’d dig it.

Really enjoying your approach to reviews: no pointless swearing, straight comments, honest takes. One suggestion: I would prefer a more technical insight into records, aside from your personal impression on their quality. Thanks for sharing all this, and keep it on.

The disdain in your voice when you said "...the just awful Victory Records" was well deserved. Regarding that Faustcoven album, you mentioned that you don't think that you've found a band that can effortlessly combine black and doom metal together like they do, but I think there are a couple albums that might want to check out that you might like. Nortt - Graven (it has a very obnoxious, yet satisfying guitar tone) Loathfinder - The Great Tired Ones (a really new band that I personally think has great potential) You may not like any of it, but I think they're exceptionally good black/doom releases that seem to have gone under the radar.

Nicolas I think we have pretty similar taste so I value your opinion, I’ll definitely check those two out. I’ve seen the name Nortt around but just haven’t gotten around to checking them out
@BurntOfferings138
@BurntOfferings138 5 лет назад
@@grundlekid That's really nice to hear. Nortt is EXTREMELY slow-paced and definitely more of a "theater of the mind" type of black/doom band, whereas Loathfinder is more of a straightfoward type of black/doom band with a black metal vibe and even some elements of death/doom. It's definitely music that you have to be in the mood for, but it seems to hit the spot every time for me. Loathfinder had to grow on me a little bit, but when I started to learn how the songs were structured, it all started to make more sense to me. The song "Scents of Regression" has exceptionally good songwriting, at least I think.

Is Victory Records bad because of its metalcore roster?
@BurntOfferings138
@BurntOfferings138 5 лет назад
@@iamdeath4193 - Victory Records is bad because of its bad metalcore roster. At this point, I cannot even tell you what metalcore is anymore. Looking back in hindsight, metalcore bands in the 90s were really great bands such as Merauder, Integrity, (early) Life of Agony, (early) Vision of Disorder, Overcast, Zao, etc. Then in the 2000s, all of a sudden, metalcore became became hit or miss bands like Lamb of God (whose DVDs are infinitely more entertaining than their albums), Shadows Fall (whose singer is Brian Fair, who sang in Overcast, a band I mentioned earlier), Killswitch Engage, Unearth, Chimaira, As I Lay Dying (or, as I like to refer to them as, As I Lay Crying), God Forbid, Trivium, Bullet for My Valentine, Atreyu, Darkest Hour, All That Remains, and many other mostly awful bands. Then, all of a sudden, metalcore became bands that had post-hardcore influences like The Devil Wears Prada, Bring Me the Horizon, Asking Alexandria (just typing that made me cringe), Attack Attack, Emmure, Falling in Reverse, and other abhorrent and offensively shitty bands. I don't even know what bands are considered metalcore anymore these days. All I remember is those early 2000s and late 2000s bands that were on Headbanger's Ball here in America a lot. Even when I was in elementary school around that time, I would get annoyed at the overwhelming amount of awful music that would be played on Headbanger's Ball. Granted, some of the bands they played went on to become some of my absolute favorite bands of all time like Iced Earth, Immolation, Nevermore, Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal, etc., but for every one great video they'd show, they'd show at least three dogshit ones. I specifically remember the Victory Records name coming up a lot during those dogshit videos far too often. A lot of them were just fodder for me to laugh at until an actual metal band came on. So, to reiterate what I hope you didn't too bored reading, Victory Records isn't inherently bad because it has metalcore. It's bad because it has BAD metalcore. Now I'm in the mood to put on Merauder - Master Killer, one of the greatest "metalcore" albums I have ever heard.

Nicolas great and interesting feedback. I mostly agree with you. Metalcore is like post-hardcore. It started out decent but when it started deviating from its hardcore punk roots it got worse. I remember listening to modern metalcore bands Of Mice and Men and Beartooth and being annoyed because of how shitty they were and when I listened to the first album by Converge who are said to have invented metalcore I thought to myself how could a genre go from decent to complete shit so fast?

That Jungle Rot-record has really good riffs, but the vocals are not good, they are very repetetive and lacks power, if they had been better it would surely made my top 20.

Dave's vocals changed and got worse over the years, you should listen to their first 3 albums, he sounds like a fucking monster
