I have an 05 XC70 with 242k miles and thank God I haven't had any of these issues with my car. And you're incorrect about not trans dipstick. It's yellow tip and sits right below the upper mount. I think you just made this video to trash one the best built vehicles in the world....ridiculous.

OK so point by point: 1. I had a 2001 V70 it had an ATF dipstick. I have a 2005 XC70, it also has an ATF dipstick 1.1 The bad shifting was mostly on 2001-2004 cars as the software would put the car in neutral every time the speedo read ZERO. This wore out the solenoid. All P2 platforms from 2004 had this software updated in the factory. The solenoid can be replaced without a box dismount or disassembly. Solenoid costs about 150 USD 2. The DDM is prone to get wet, as its the same block where all your door buttons are. Its literally right bellow the buttons. Mine failed, but after cleaning and soldering back the corroded joints, works fine. In any case, a rebuild is about 100 bucks, and a new one is 300... 3. The ABS module has less than 1% failure rate on the forums... Yet you don't even talk about the PCV breather box and how that needs changing every 50k miles. 4. The upper engine mount is an expenditure item, just like your wipers or bushings. Its even written in the maintenance manual to check the mount and replace if required. Its like 3 bolts... and the mount is 60 bucks, come on now... 5. The bushings in the control arms ARE replaceable. You can press brand new bushings in the arm. They last 60k miles at least. And replace the ball joint also... Plenty of brands make these, from monroe, sachs and lemforder. The front and rear bushings are 30 bucks each, and the ball joint (OEM) is 50... in total its like 250 bucks for both sides... OR you can just buy BRAND NEW control arms with all the bushings in place FROM VOLVO for 180 bucks each... yeah... Sorry but you have no clue about this car.

ABS module isn’t that bad. Just remove it (get te screws out from the bottom, so you don’t have to drain the brake fluid) cut it open and check solder joints with a magnifying glass. You wil see some cracks; solder them again and you are good to go. Cost: couple of hours of your time👍

You are incredible! I have an 04 XC70 I got very cheap from an older owner but I knew since I saved on the purchase I would be spending on some worthwhile repairs since I plan on keeping the wagon a long time. I've replaced the Motor Mounts, Control Arms + Bushings, Shocks and Coils full Sachs Suspension Kit. Also installed new front + rear sway bars and the difference in handling from before is amazing. I haven't experienced any issues with the transmission because it was worked on previously. Luckily the car was pretty easily driven / garage kept so I dont have any of the ABS or Door locking issues mentioned. Just turned 188K this week!

It has a dip stick for the transmission is read or yellow and is over the transmission. Abs is not only the module sometimes is the abs sensor that is dirty 8 mm socket clean it up and done. Control arm is a weak point in the p2 volvo, still not complex to do in your driveway, also replace the ball join at same time.. Ball joins need to be set, there is a great tool for it expensive but it makes the job really easy. Gasket in the cooling lines in the turbo is a really involve job if you have the awd version... most of the time need to drop down the front awd system to get access to the turbo. Last week point is halex system.. do the oil changes on it to save it.. if is down .. you can still remove the axel and convert it and use the front transmission. I have 3 volvos p2 in the pass. XC70, S60

#6 to your list is the PCV system (not very expensive parts, but a whole lot of labor) #7 the upper struts mounts #8 VVT solenoid #9 throttle body (it's fly by wire and sometimes the TPS inside fails) #10 electric/electronics There, now the list is more complete. :)

We have a 2003 XC70 with 450,000 kilometres and it’s been pretty great. It does have some issues, the AWD doesn’t work, sunroof doesn’t work, and there is a hard shift when going into reverse. We noticed a small oil leak from the turbocharger but with the amount of mileage on it we aren’t shocked. I’d still drive it anywhere.

I've got one of those, except it's RHD, and unless the US ones have a different transmission, there's a little yellow tipped dipstick for the transmission on the front under the airbox. Also, when the doors are locked on mine the little popup stick sits flush with the door trim. Is that a US difference too?

Not sure which year you are featuring in this. The 01-04 we’re problematic because they had the GM transmission. 05-07 to had the aisin warner transmission. Xemodex rebuilds ABS and DIM modules. My 06 XC70 has a tune on it from Hilton Tuning which removes the torque limiter and it’s a much happier car at 208K.
@nickspellman6606
@nickspellman6606 Год назад
01-03 only ones really with hard shifting problem. Also there is a dipstick for the transmission on all P2 chassis xc70's. Door locks are rare to see go bad on P2 cars same with abs module more common to fail on older p80 chassis cars.

I drive a late 2004 Facelift 2.4 D5 163 6sp manual and nearly done 219,000 miles, she's still going strong and never let me down, has impeccable service and maintenance history. I didn't want a problematic as I've read some right horror stories on them seizing up if not serviced. Don't get me wrong, their not all like it I know and the manuals aren't w/o their faults, but until I start losing my clutch control, I'm more than happy to change gear myself instead of a computer doing it :)

It's hard to locate first time. If you have big hands doesn't help. I can only get one finger to flip the clip then pull the tran dip stick. Make sure clip catches when you put dip back in.

I would add brittle plastics, like 1:08 where the little lock bezel has gone missing. There are lots of little interior trim bits that get brittle and break. They're hard to replace because all the ones at the junkyard are broken too. This also extends to brittle degraded wiring loom or electric plugs. I still rather like my V70 though.

There IS a transmission dipstick on my 04. it's just hidden down by the radiator. not real obvious. Also the motor on the ABS module on mine is shot. there is a metal plate over one of the mounting screws but you can drill a hole to access it. then you can swap out the motor (if you can find it) insterad of the whole ABS unit.

LOL you forgot the dreaded electrical gremlins. My 2002 xc70s turn signals and hazard outside lights stopped working. Put in refurbished DIM, CEM. New turn signal stalk, hazard switch, bulbs with sockets. No rodent damage. Not even volvo can tell me why they don't work. The only thing I didn't replace was the SWM. maybe?

Excellent cars, the biggest disappointment now is the lack of availability of some parts, from Volvo or even decent alternatives. Also the electronics modules are ridiculously expensive, so going for a repaired one is far more economical. Look after the engine with oil and belt changes, the engines and transmission are much happier and more durable the auto box. The Aisin auto gearboxes are excellent and if they do have issues are cured by a good specialist.
