It's like what Bruce Lee used to say: ”I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”
I really wish I could give this more than just one "like". It's very refreshing to see a self defense instructor who understands that everybody is different with different physical limitations. Too many so called self defense "experts" have this "My way or the highway" mentality. They believe that just because their style works best for them then by default it must work for everyone else as well. It's that kind of nonsense that fuels those idiotic debates on which style works better on the streets (there's a reason why Bruce Lee hated the concept of styles). I remember there was this girl on another message board who wanted to learn how to defend herself because she was so small. She described herself as around 5 feet tall and only weighing around 90 lbs or so. Anyway some guy responds by telling her she should take up boxing, wrestling, Muay Thai, and so on and I'm thinking DUDE! Didn't you read what she wrote about her tiny size? What good will boxing and wrestling do her? Anyway I chimed in and said that she will never become the next Ronda Rousey and that she should instead focus on eye gouges and throat strikes which don't require a lot of upper body strength .
What's up Nick! Great stuff, I'm a Army veteran and I have lots of experience in hand to hand combat. I myself prefer to hit with palm strikes and hammer fist along with elbows which are the best since I boxed and did muay thai for so long, and like you said sometimes when in a real fight especially when ones adrenaline is high people tend to just swing away and that's when you can break your knuckles without realizing it. Keep up the great work!
I prefer punching but still practice Palm striking depends on the distance and more follow-through to hit your opponent with or attacker and send him backwards to break a structure and escaped I would cut angles laterally side to side and then run and get away if I could
