Was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes back in August. My A1C was at 10.8, blood sugar at 298. Just recently tested and A1C is at 5.6. Blood sugar levels within last 90 days is at 110. This has not been easy. I'm 6'2" and now weigh 160. Was 196 when diagnosed. This channel has helped a lot about learning more about dealing with this condition. Thanks Dr.

Thanks for explaining about the pesticides with celery; I had not idea, and generally washed my veggies before cooking or putting in a salad. I usually eat Red Potatoes instead of white; but still have to watch it, the keyword is moderation.

I've eaten a strict low carb diet for 25 years now. I have several friends who are diabetics and my main issue is that a diabetic diet isn't a really low carb diet. It tends to depend on the glycemic value to level off blood sugar instead of fixing the real issue of too much sugar in their diet. We hear this high carb food is low on the glycemic scale so it's okay to eat. The thing is it still has the same amount of insulin requirements but spread out over time. A strict low carb diet lowers the total amount of insulin required. I eat around 12 carbs total a day. My diet consists of meat, fats, seafoods, eggs, cheese, nuts and seeds and around two dozen low carb vegetables. For low carb, winter squash is out, tomatoes and peppers and onions are limited, no grains, potatoes, corn, rice or beans. All are high carb foods. Blood work done twice a year shows no dietary issues and my triglycerides and blood sugar levels are at the bottom of the recommended range. I'm not suggesting a diabetic suddenly go to a strict low carb diet unless they can work with their diabetic doctor to adjust insulin because the requirements are very likely to change. What I'm saying is doctors need to change how they are treating diabetics to reduce the need for insulin and that's a very low or even no carb diet.

I don't eat the vegetables listed here - after changing my diet and exercising daily, my doctor has reduced my daily meds and I no longer need to inject insulin daily. I'm nearly 75 yrs old.

That's amazing to hear! It’s incredible what changes in diet and exercise can do, especially when it helps reduce medication and even insulin use. At nearly 75, that’s an impressive accomplishment! Keep up the great work, and it’s always inspiring to see how lifestyle changes can have such a positive impact on health.

Recently changed my lifestyle diet to a plant based diet being a type 2 diabetic I watch my blood sugar each day so I know what triggers high readings for me and have removed them from my home and replaced them with better choices and built recipes and substitutes for my favorite things it is working wonderfully for me A1C was 9.5 Now it is 7.2 hopefully it will keep going down and I’m not feeling cheated or hungry also losing weight

For every video telling that certain foods are bad for this or that, you can find sites that say the exact opposite. My doctor told me to test 2 hours after eating a food to see if it was good or bad for you. Everyone has a different reaction to foods.

If you want to find out if your body deals well with a food check your sugar 30 minutes, 60 minutes and 90 minutes after you eat. If your sugar spikes stay away or rarely eat that food. It’s the spikes that do damage.

Exactly. I thought butternut squash was OK, but I had it recently and it really spiked my blood sugar, so no more. Celery was the surprise to me in this video and I'll be buying organic only from now on. It doesn't spike my blood sugar; however, I didn't know that it retained pesticides so much! All the others in this video were known to be bad for diabetics to me.

I agree different vegetables can be good for one person & not good for another. It depends on the individual. I love peas, corn, potato but I have learnt to skip it. Just once in awhile, in moderation. In fact you can eat everything in moderation.

I found out I had diabetes symptoms 2 14 weeks ago, I have lost 13kilos in that 14 weeks thats 28.5 pounds, and I wasnt that fat! Its all carbs and sugar, just cut out carbs and sugars as much as is humanly possible! My blood sugar was 23.5 now 5.2 with max of 6.7 first thing in the morning! I am a 60 year old male. Eat smaller portions cut out carbs sugars and processed foods and you will loose weight and stabilize your glucose levels, its that simple.

My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through Diabets Care She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that

When I heard "nightshades" I immediately thought of Venetian blinds. I've lived in Spain for nearly all my life and there are occasional everyday expressions in English that I'm not familiar with. In Spanish, nightshades is "solanáceas" (I wasn't familiar with that word in Spanish either). Nunca te acostarás sin saber una cosa más. Not a day goes by without learning something new.

The trick with this is ... you’re allowed to eat these vegetables ,all vegetables are healthy for you but you just have to limit your starchy vegetables intake cause these affect your glucose levels ... so eat these but moderately

True about white potatoes but red potatoes work well on a diabetic or carb restricted diet. Also, studies show that if you cook potatoes, then cool them, even if you reheat them, the starch content is far less. Enjoy.

Onion is not a nightshade veggie. From wikipedia: "The onion (Allium cepa L., from Latin cepa "onion"), also known as the bulb onion or common onion, is a vegetable that is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Allium. Its close relatives include the garlic, scallion, shallot, leek, chive,[2] and Chinese onion.[3]" The Culprits: Foods on the Nightshade List Eggplant (Fruit) Tomatoes (Fruit) Tomatillo (Fruit) Potatoes (Vegetable) Goji Berries (Fruit) Pimentos (Fruit) Peppers (Bell, Chili, Paprika, Cayenne) (Fruit) Tobacco (Leaf)4

I grow my own celery and tomatoes I don't each much corn though I eat it raw and plain I make my own French fries with potato skins cooked in olive oil. I give the middles away to my neighbor's kids. You make cooking so difficult when it would be just easier to learn what are simple carbs, versus complex carbs, and learning the diabetic plate method, where it is so easy to figure out portions, so you can still enjoy high starch items such as potatoes, but in smaller, healthier quantities. If pesticides are bad for diabetics, then they are bad FOR EVERYONE! Instead, suggest that diabetics buy ORGANIC produce! Maybe it is time to eliminate harmful pesticides and chemicals from our foods, especially here in the U.S. Other countries have done this.

The title of this video looks like scaremongering clickbait. Everything it lists, it says you actually can have in moderation - but that is the same with all food…I don’t see the point of misleading people like this, except to get clicks.
@ForeverHealthUS

Thank you for your feedback! The intention behind the video is to emphasize the importance of moderation and making informed choices, especially for people managing diabetes. While it's true that many foods can be enjoyed in moderation, some can have a bigger impact on blood sugar, so the goal is to raise awareness. We appreciate your perspective and will keep it in mind to ensure we're clear and helpful in future content!
