Autophagy is the natural cellular recycling process that rids our body of old or malfunctional protein. This sets in motion the process of rejuvenation as our body rebuilds new proteins to replace the old ones. Autophagy is a powerful method of healing and is best activated by fasting. That's why 1.3 billion Muslims around the world FAST, from sunrise to sunset, for a month every year. It's prescribed by our Creator. That's why Islam promotes and encourages science as it helps uncover our divine law. I appeal to all the scientists to explore the book of Quran. This book of divine law and signs is untouched and intact in it's original language since 1400 years. Divine laws also came before but unfortunately they are not intact anymore. Quran is the last correction of the divine law. Explore it!

Autophagy cuts into pharmaceutical sales and hospitalizations so they probably don't emphasize it in medical school. The health industry in america is big business. The country is a obesity, heart disease and diabetes factory designed to keep everyone on prescriptions and to keep money flowing into hospitals and clinics.

@Rita 25 y.o - check my vidéó Yes definitely . I had a particular issue with bread . If I bought a loaf - even a wholegrain one , then I could eat the whole thing in one go . Apart from the lovely taste I never got satiety from that !

@michaeldillon3113 2 года назад
@@dingfeldersmurfalot4560 Bread used to play a big part in my life so I thought that it would be hard to reduce or give up . In fact because my chronic sinus / Nasal congestion problem cleared up within a week I had , by chance , found positive reinforcement to help me give up bread . Nearly 18 months on I doubt if I have eaten one loaf of bread in total . When I ate bread I got into the habit of feeding birds with half the loaf because I knew that I could easily finish off a loaf once I had started on it . Oats , which are meant to be satiating , were even more hunger inducing for me . Even when I was eating the first bowl I was thinking of the second bowl ! I think for some people ( and I am definitely one ) carbs cause this extreme insulin response - so you can never reach satiety .

Great explanation thanks . I recently did a 5 day water fast and for last two months have only one meal a day . Was overweight and felt terrible . Now I'm much thinner and my energy level is amazing also noticed my memory is much better. Feel like a new person . Well worth the effort . I stay off alcohol, sugary items and carbs . Eat lots of meats,eggs and vegetables with some fruit and drink lots of water with electrolytes and afew supplement pills like vitamin C , Magnessium and zinc . Living the dream again thank God! Surfing again was a main focus to get me healthy again as I had given it up because of being overweight but I really missed the fun . Yay !

From 2010-2011 i lost 75 kilos doing calorie restriction. Worst years of my life where i ended up needing b12 and iron injections and doc considered me borderline malnourished. Yes i lost the weight, but i was not functioning. Sleeping 10 h a night plus nap during the day. I got praise for losing weight, but when i tried to tell them i didnt feel better, in-fact i felt worse, i was looked at like I was stupid. Losing weight is “good for you”, right? My son told me i had slurred speech and at times i talked in slow motion. I did not notice this myself really. And now we are talking about my maintenance period AFTER i lost weight. I could after a year maintaining that new weight, STILL not eat more than 1300-1400 calories a day, without GAINING weight. I got fed up and started eating 1600-1800 a day, and felt better. But weight slowly came back even tho i still kept an eye on calories. I was convinced my body was trying to get back to my highest weight and sucked up ever calorie i ate. Watching Dr, Fungs videos put words and scientific explanations to what i lived through. 3 years ago when i started keto to try lose weight again, i felt like a new person. OMAD came naturally due to less hunger, and i loved my “keto brain” as i called it when talking about it with others. I felt creative again for first time in years. I had less pain in the surrounding tissue of my hip joint(which is crocked), so i take less pain medication. I always struggled with inflammation in that tissue being irritated when i moved too much. I dont need codeine daily anymore. I now and then take keto-holiday where i dont count carbs, but it doesnt take long before i want my keto-brain back. Its my default “setting” now..living keto lifestyle with OMAD. Carby days are rare, and only for special occasions. After watching most of his videos i am now experimenting with longer fasting, and i have yet to exceed 36 hours. But so far i love how it makes me feel. So for an over-eater, like i have been since childhood..this is amazing. Hard to believe this is ME living like that. Love it.

After discovering intermittent fasting… I’ve lost 24 pounds in six weeks… I’ve noticed positive changes in my skin, eyes, hair, and even my gums… I was already eating a healthy diet. However, I was grazing all day long and even waking up and eating a sandwich at 3 AM… I cut three things from my diet beer, pasta, and bread… I eat 3/4 fruits and vegetables 1/4 lean meat… First meal at 11 AM second meal at 5 PM some healthy snacks in between if I want… I feel 10 years younger… I even noticed I can breathe deeper and I sleep better… Not only is this free medicine… But my grocery bill dropped in half☝️😃

Thankyou Dr. Fung... you clear things up tremendously. My question is how easy is it to inadvertantly drop out of autophagy during a fast? I regularly fast for anywhere from 3 to 4 days up to 11 or 12 days and I feel amazing, have lost loads of weight and have 'cured' my painful wrist, thumb and left knee over the last 6 months. But, I drink one strong coffee in the morning, red-bush (rooibos) tea throughout the day and sip on 2 litres of 'Lo-Salt' water (KCl and NaCl) to stay hydrated. Has the coffee and red-bush (caffeine-free btw) been pushing me out of autophagy? Perhaps someone here might shed some light on this for me... I'd be very grateful.

Dr. Fung, I was having a terrible time with intermittent fasting. Every time I skip breakfast by lunch time my stomach hurts. This happened repeatedly. I figured that I just couldn't skip a meal. It doesn't work for me. Then, I discovered what the problem was. It wasn't the fasting that made my stomach hurt, it was the coffee. Even though I was skipping breakfast, I was still having a cup of coffee with heavy cream and butter. That helped me be full until lunch. But then my stomach would really hurt. I quit the coffee, now, no problem. I have no problem drinking water. Have you ever heard about coffee being an irritant when fasting?

Such an incredible bonus to fasting for weight loss. Would've liked to hear more specifics like how many hours you need to fast to get a good amount of autophagy. The app I use to track my fasting (fastic) says after 16 hours it begins, so I am I right to assume my normal 23:1 regimen is getting me autophagy every day? Lately I've been considering throwing in one or two 48-hour fasts per week since I am not hungry anymore, even at my mealtime. I enjoy eating a lot, but I don't have the physiological need after a 24 hr fast, it's all just for pleasure at this point. So why not try some 48 hour ones? Think I will skip my dinner tonight and see how it goes.

There should be a balance between breaking things down and building things up. That principle is applicable in biology and can be generalized to nearly everything in this world. Going too far to one extreme or another is the root of nearly all forms of dysfunction and unhappiness. Thank you Dr. Fung for being the foremost voice in emphasizing the need for such balance in our dietary habits way BEFORE it became the popular thing for diet gurus to advocate.
