Good explanations. I checked the fuse for continuity and found it was blown. It was a 20 amp fuse. I found replacement fuses at a big box store and replaced it. The microwave works again, so thanks for the advice. Over the years I replaced the turntable motor a few times. I also put this microwave on a surge protector a long time ago. Production date on its label shows it to be a 1998 model.

Good, simple, explanations. Just an FYI for newbies, when checking the door switches for continuity remember to trigger the switch! Mine were a button not too unlike those found on a ball point pen that tangs on the door depress.

Hello, my microwave works timer works light turns on like if it were working. But there's no spinning or I guess 'heat' being emitted what could be the problem

I have a RCA model number on back of unit RMW 1126 cooked 4 baked potatoes 32 minutes high heat it just shut off no power was ready to open the back to check the fuse but decided to wait to cool down I unplugged put a fan on it to cool it down and after 10 minutes would not start waitied another 5 minutes plugged it in and everything working again. It automatically shuts down before it blows fuse.

0:57 - In another video, a commenter explained that one of the thermal fuses (in that video, for that microwave) couldn't be tested for continuity, because it was a normally open (NO) design that would close upon heating up. Thus, simply checking it at room temperature would not yield an accurate result. Have you any comment on that claim? Thanks for the video.

I was cooking lasagna today and right around the time it was set to finish I thought I heard a low growl from it (I was cooking on half power) and when I went to the kitchen, the microwave was dead. There's no lights on. It's like it's unplugged. I unplugged it from the outlet above it in the cabinet and plugged in a small blender to verify the outlet is working. The microwave is 13 years old.

Lights are on and display lights up but microwave will not run. It clicks and time counts down when start button is pushed but does not run.

My fuse was out, I changed the fuse and it blew again. I later found one of the monitoring switch did not have continuity. I changed the switch and still does not power up. In Step 3 the fuse on the left does not have continuity. I checked with local store and he said that is for fan and does not need continuity. Can that fuse be the issue my microwave is not turning on ?

Me 2 I need answer. One day it was working fine and the next day the door switch was broken(it’s still there but the switch did seem to be working as usual) and the microwave lost it power. Know to fix this??

Hi RepairClinic, thanks for this video. I used a multimeter to find out that my main fuse, turntable motor, and one of the thermal cut offs are all bad (magnetron TCO and the other TCO tested fine). The microwave came with the house we just bought and there's kind of a lot of greasy build up behind the control panel. Could the grease cause the fuses to fail prematurely in the future?

@@MultiStar84 I prefer to fix things, but I ended up doing just that. The thing was 14 years old and the new turntable motor I put in shorted out immediately. I picked it up last week and need to install it this weekend or next weekend.

@@MultiStar84 I was able to wait since we had a 2nd microwave and recently I ended up lucking out with the July 4th sales at Lowe's, HD, and Best Buy. All had the JVM7195FLDS for 50% off, so I went with that from Lowe's due to their superior return policy and store pickup. Both microwaves are GE so I'm hoping it's an "easy" swap. In retrospect I can't believe that took a year!

@@MultiStar84 By the way the main fuse replacement had been easy and it turned out that that other fuse was NOT bad. If that was the only problem I wouldnt have gotten a new microwave. Darn turntable motor shorting out was what made me not want to mess with it anymore.

HOOKS STICKING OUT THE DOOR IS A DUMB IDEA! I assume the designer had a warped sense of humor and enjoyed thinking of how many people, removing scalding liquid from the oven, will be splattered when the vessel catches on the hooks.

@coolcat6303 wish you would have responded sooner... I got my daughter a new microwave for her Bday that actually has a working cat carousel. We keep it on defrost so I think it's fine
