My 24v truck and travel trailer weighed 19k gross weight and towed it from North Carolina to northern Cali and I averaged around 13.5 mph. At the time I had a bone truck with a 6 speed. I’ve made some Mods since but it Towed great! Crazy how much these trucks can handle

I have the same truck but with my livestock/combo all steel construction can hold 6 horses but have only scaled it with 2 and was 20k. Would like to get an aluminum someday so I'm not so heavy fully loaded. Great video nice to see what other trailers weight.

Bit of an old video, but it never *gets* old for me. We have a '98 Deep Emerald Metallic Dodge 12v with a (moderate) lift kit and Hercules 19.5 towing tires. Gets compliments everywhere it goes (had 3 guys offer to buy it in one weekend once lol) but between you and me it could absolutely use a new paint job and a lot of TLC. She served us super well moving out to Texas from California. Gotta say though, the only place it really started to get in trouble was the grade out near...Coachella I think it was. I-10 out there. Last time I took that route was around 15 years ago so the memory is a little fuzzy. 😅 Anyway, this is a seriously good looking truck. You've now sold me on getting a grey dually for my next 2nd Gen. What bumper/rims are you running? Tires are a solid choice though.

Ahh Florida, where Dodge 2nd gens live forever free of rust lol. I had 2 second Gen Dodge Cummins trucks both 2500’s, and both automatics. Miss that ol loud Bulldozer sound lol. Currently in a 5th Gen, and you can’t hardly here the damn thing lol, huge difference. If you want it to last, and be reliable don’t go crazy on the tunes, and if you haven’t already, slip a South Bend dual disc clutch in place of the factory duty clutch, and you’ll have a bullet proof dually for towing. Also if your feeling fancy, later on down the road, swap your front gear case over, to a 2nd Gen 12 valve gear case so you can P-Pump swap it, and you’ll have a bulletproof injection pump, making a bullet proof 24 valve. If you don’t watch your fuel pressures the VP44 is known to lay down on the side of the road on you. Since you have the big fuel pump already on it, it’ll extend the life of the VP44 significantly, but when they start to go, they go in an instant lol. I believed fuel pressure on them if I remember right is no more than 13 psi at idle, and no less than 10 psi under load, as long as you maintain that the VP44 tends to stay pretty happy for its service life. Just a few things I learned during my time of owning the old ones lol. Oh yeah, and the cover panel gasket on the drivers side of the block, is usually the first place they start seeping oil from, then the rear main starts seeping, and then the front main seal usually holds, as long as you don’t get to much junk rapped around the crank shaft pulley. If you do the clutch, it’s the perfect time to do the rear main seal, that keeps you ahead of oil leakage for the most part. Don’t ever get any engine replacement parts from rock auto.com, always get it from Cummins even though it’s pricier, it’s still cheaper, and safer, than a whole other engine. Reason is there’s a story of a guy that got a replacement oil pan for his Dodge Cummins and first run with the new oil pan, the paint on the inside flaked up in big chunks, and got picked up by the oil pump, and clogged it up tight, engine lost oil pressure, and burnt up every main bearing, and scored every cylinder up, and locked it up tighter than a new born ticks ass. New crate engine from Cummins, was priced at 10,000 bucks, but that was more than what the truck was worth by that point, so off to the junk yard that truck went.

I have a 2001 dodge dually with a 373 rear and I pull a 42ft fifh wheel toy hauler. With a bike n golf cart, camper is 13,000 dry loaded I'm around 15,500 just the trailer still get 13 mpg

You need to adjust you coupler up just a toy to get the front of the trailer down for accurate weight distribution and it would probably be either on the horses if the trailer was level not tilted something my husband taught me and our horses were more relaxed and fresher at days end

Stupid question but maybe someone will know the answer. Why is it that almost all horse trailers have the wheels all the way at the back? I’d assume hauling horses must have some sort of “bounce or sway” aspect to them being that they must move and react to the bumps as it moves, so wouldn’t it be better for the weight to be as centered as possible? I may and probably am thinking completely opposite of what’s needed, I usually do so take it easy on me 😂😂😂

The title is a bit misleading. It says you’re towing 17,000 + but that’s a not true. There’s a difference between weight you are towing and combined weight. That said I really like your truck and trailer. Would love to have a set up like that someday.

20,000lbs seems like the limit to be on the safe side for towing.

Mint truck. But a 2015 f150 can tow 10klbs so not that impressive in that aspect. Love the truck tho.
