I learned recently that wood is safer than plastic for cutting because wood has a natural compound that resists and possibly kills bacteria. Ironic isn’t it that we think plastic was better for bacteria. I would say 95% of the time I use wood cutting boards, glass storage containers, glass, stainless and vintage cast iron cooking and bakeware. I use small silicone baking mats to cover baking dishes instead of aluminum and later storing the leftover pan in the fridge. Ive said for years that society is literally bathed in chemicals. And people are even using synthetic (plastic) cleaning cloths, kitchen towels and even bath towels because they dry faster. 😮 I believe this societal poisoning is intentional. Death by a thousand cuts. These companies know EXACTLY what they are doing.
@circuses5748

You believe correct. The societal poisoning is intentional. Bill Gates etc & other companies know what they are doing. Lawsuits have occurred over teflon for one example, but it has not stopped them continuing. People from those companies then shuffle about, off to another department or company, one example of this is bayer bought out monsanto; no real punishment to individuals to ensure they don't do it again. No court orders made to stop these harmful products. Money punishments don't stop the already wealthy! Governments are involved in these plans & courts. It is a very deep rabbithole.

You can clean/disinfect wooden cutting boards with a mix of distilled water/vinegar/lemon juice and for real dirty boards you can rub a lemon & some salt on them & let it sit for awhile before scrubbing. Then, every week or so, let it sit in the sun for several hours bc sunlight is the best disinfectant. Then just rinse well before using again.

The other little dirty secret, we were told “use plastic it’s recyclable”. Did you know 99.9% of reusable plastics we dutifully separate and put in the recycling bin ends up in the landfill or the ocean and never gets recycled like we are told? I would say prior to the 1970’s and the switch to the Petro dollar and the push towards the use and development of Petrochemicals, we used paper bags (which had multiple uses after carrying our groceries), waxed paper wrap, wax coated paper straws, glass and tin cans, all truly multi use recyclable products. Instead of throwaway wipes and diapers and various other disposables, things were laundered. The world had less pollution then, now we face environmental disaster.

Just get bamboo chopping boards. Very cheap and they made from sustainable resources. They last very long, strong and the wood doesn’t chip. Best of all, they don’t get grimy like plastics do or have bad scratches Use them, wash with soap and hang. Never soak em, they are made of wood material after all. I have 3 of them of various sizes and have been using them for almost 5 years. Compared to plastic ones that I toss after a year of use as they looked gross and harbouring mold. Glass cutting boards to me are just difficult to handle as you have to be gentle not to break them. And the sound of knife on it just isn’t pleasing to the ear.

Maybe I’ll just have raw fresh produce right off the stem… Oh wait! They all take chemical baths to increase growth and kill pests. SIGH. Think about your back yard gardens in the burbs. How many of your neighbors get their lawns sprayed every quarter? How many get their trees sprayed? Those that live in rural areas have to deal with aquifer pollution. How many live near land fills? How many live near pick and pull auto graveyards? How many live near properties that are illegal dump sites? How many live near neighbors that burn trash constantly? Just because a product touts that it is 'BPA free' doesn't mean it's healthy. In fact nearly all plastic baggies are made of PE (polyethylene), which is usually BPA free. Ziploc and other sandwich bags are often made of low-density polyethylene (LDPE), which has been shown not to contain PFAS, however if exposed to heat or UV rays from the sun the plastic begins to break down. DON'T microwave food in them or risk leaching plastic chemicals into food. I've reduced plastic in my household, with the goal of eliminating plastics. It's very hard, since plastic is both ubiquitous and convenient. I now use silicone or glass storage containers, silicone or metal cooking utensils, and I have my concerns with silicone too.

@bitrudder3792
@bitrudder3792 2 месяца назад
@@justmejo9008 - I think that's going to be an individual process. It depends on the plastic stuff you already have, the stuff you expose yourself to the most. I would ditch personal care products first because not only are they full of toxic chemicals they are generally stored in plastic. Simplify simplify simplify! Changing to a non-toxic bed is a very expensive choice, but you spend eight hours a day in contact with it every day if you have half decent sleep. If you've already started a garden of edibles, you Are already on your way to eliminating some plastic exposure as well as toxic trash. Buying a reasonable number of glass containers to store leftovers in, or prepping ingredients, is a very good choice early on. In those cases I don't worry about a silicone/lid if I don't fill the container all the way to the top. The lid also helps me get a good grip on the container when I'm transporting it so I'm less likely to drop it and break it. Cutting boards should be an early choice because you're literally slicing plastic into your food. Those cuts in the plastic, when crossed a few times at different angles, is releasing plastic into your food. It's not just a contact problem. Clothing is a difficult issue. I hate my synthetic clothing but finding decent 100% cotton/linen/wool is difficult. It's really expensive if it's done well… And those fabrics need to be done properly most of the time unless it's a pajama. Learning to sew would be a good idea and buying one of those retro singers from around 1950 to 1961 is probably the best bet because the newer computerized plastic machines are not made to last. My mom made some amazing clothing for me on those machines. it's important to shop for organic fiber sheets also. But few things are more important than a good attitude, a healthy mindset. Forgiveness. Letting go of resentment. You can be as compulsive as you want staying away from toxic things, but without the mental component, It's really hard to get healthy and stay healthy. We also all need to be looking at the problems with a plant-based diet. They are huge.

All the water out there isn’t plastic and unfortunately most people can’t drink the water from the tap. Even a filter doesn’t take out all the contaminants even they have put so many chemicals in your water that even filters don’t purify it 100% so what’s the solution? There is none you’re going to be exposed to some kind of plastic that is bad for you. What aggravates me more than anything about plastic is that polluting the whole world? Why can’t they just put things back into glass like they used to glass bottles without lead of course. But thank you for your information you’re very informative and I appreciate that.
