In this video, we show you how to perform an oil and filter change on the 2UZ-FE 4.7L V8 engine that was available in many Toyota and Lexus models. An engine oil and filter change is as basic as it gets when it comes to Automotive Mechanics, but it's probably the most important maintenance job you can regularly perform to give your engine the longevity you desire.

I grew up in Northern California near Oregon and my dad taught me that when you put your vehicle on stands and before you removed wheels you would do a quick “Earthquake check”. Just shake the vehicle to make sure your stands were solid. Love the comment “Gateway Drug”. Nothing like having the local “Oil Monkey” strip your oil pan. That is why I change my own. Yeah, a good shake isn't a bad idea. Taking your vehicle to the hacks at oil changer places is something I should have mentioned. Big mistakes happen at dealerships as well. The person doing oil changes at a dealership isn't the 30-year Master Technician. It's the new kid more worried about his Instagram profile than what he's doing to your vehicle. Vehicles have left with no engine oil, left with the oil cap off, left with a stripped drain plug, left with a loose oil filter, etc. The best person to work on your vehicle is YOU!

I have the 2UZ-FE in my 2004 Tundra DC. Used mostly synthetic oils through the years changed at 5k intervals. After pulling valve covers to do the gaskets the valve train looked new, super clean. This engine design is "easy" on oil.

The 2UZ-FE has got to be one of the best, if not the best engine Toyota has ever designed. They are known to reach 1 Million Miles.

You are so right.. it is the Gateway to DIY.. do your own oil change, save $50 bucks..then brakes.. save $400... then you are hooked.

Nice!! A few extras are: Oil drains 'better' when it's warm. Might not be an issue with you but I think if you can drain the oil when it's warm (not hot) it will likely get more gunk out if there is any. When removing the drain, loosen it with tools as you did and remove it by hand as you did, but try to keep the plug in until the last minute. This way you're less likely to spill up your arm. You got that spot on, but it's a skill! Complete the paperwork or however you record the change. Some containers of new oil have a removable portion of the label, which you can stick to the vehicle. Fill in the service book or write the mileage and date on the filter and/or reset the service indicator etc. Buy the filter, oil and washer for the next change now. You'll be more likely to do the next one on time if you already have the kit.

Interesting. I didn't know the the 2nd Gen tundra came with a 2UZ. I thought all 2nd gens had the 3UR-FE. Cool!

I have that same harbor freight jack. Makes that same obnoxious squeaking noise too, LOL. Still does the job though.

That replacement drain plug gasket used looks like the ones I bought from aftermarket suppliers......I don't like them. You can properly torque them but they will loosen after a couple hundred miles. It looks to me that the adhesive used to keep the gasket material glued to the metal washer "creeps" due to the heat. If you use these check them later and retorque.

Well, the ones I've used come from Toyota and I've never had issue with them. Any drain pan bolt I've even tightened has not loosened, at least from what I can tell. None of them have leaked or fallen out and they always require force to be removed. But, I never use aftermarket washers, only OEM.

@@TimmyTheToolman The engine sound is softer and more tolerable, especially in hot areas or if the winter is not very cold, below minus 20. From my experience with a Toyota Hilux and a family pickup and four-wheel drive from Toyota, its rating is also excellent.

Your O/M will tell you. 10k is recommended BUT, the O/M states of you drive in dusty condition, stop and go traffic, or tow, it should be changed every 5K ( which is basically everyone), it also states that a higher viscosity may be better for those applications

@@chief1193 Also, Toyota on these vehicles claims their WS ATF for the transmission is "Lifetime" fluid. That is the biggest load of crap that has ever come from Toyota. A video of me renewing the ATF in my brother's truck will be coming out soon.
