Here's and idea... If your financial situation cannot support a $58/ week for travel savings; consider doing $29/ week for a two year period. If you're still not capable of doing that try $15/ week for four years (If you cannot save $15/week you should consider getting a new job)

Mark Dawson or just not go on a 5K trip and do something more plausible to save towards like a 1-2K trip

People are allowed to dream lol, and they're also allowed to criticize an inclusive sentence like "everyone can save" when it doesn't actually include them.
@meliss9536
@meliss9536 6 лет назад
True. I don't think "everyone" can cut that much out a week. A lot of people who budget have already trimmed down so much to save for numerous things.

Google Flights is the main tool you need. No other tool does what we REALLY need it to do and Google Flights does what we actually need. You can easily find a price for any time, anywhere.

Helpful video! :) Pre-trip costs are usually something a lot of people don't factor in while planning a holiday, and more often than not, visa and other travel documents cost a bomb. Glad you mentioned the same in this video.

Book early - about 2 to 3 months for international flight and 1- 2 months for domestic/continental flight. Buy day pass or city pass for discount and perks, and eat local street food instead of dining at sit-in restaurant, though you could occasionally spurge some money on to pamper yourself. Budget!

Really recommend the app, Hopper for watching a flight and grabbing it when it's cheap. You just download the app, watch a particular flight i.e. London to New York or wherever and select your dates and then choose to watch that a particular flight. You get a daily push notification to let you know if it has gone up or down in cost.

As a frequent traveler who travels to more than 10 countries a year, I always book international flights 2 to 3 months before and for domestic flights I generally book 1.5 to 2 months before as prices go up and tickets are snapped very quickly in my experience. For example, when I first checked the flight from a popular destination, AMS to CPH it was 40 USD, the next few days and a week later, the ticket for the flight and time were gone and it costs 70 USD currently.
@crisyorke1328
@crisyorke1328 7 лет назад

If you want to travel and can't set aside that $60 a week, many countries allow you to work there for a few months if you can get the paperwork in order. Language skills key depending on where you are trying to go. I haven't done this but i've seen many other people make videos on it.

The comment regarding how everyone can save x amount is definitely classist, and we can’t forget that travelling is ultimately a privilege. Just a comment for anyone reading this, if travelling abroad is too expensive for you, try travelling domestically or within your city. Save what you can and take a a new activity you’ve always wanted to do (ex: cooking class, painting classes, 2-day hotel stay). Sometimes I think what we really need is to break out of our box of daily experiences and play with some novelty. The answer isn’t always travel if you can’t afford it. (And you can definitely go on decent trips under 5K)

Thanks so much nadine! I live in the US. I am a freshman in high school planning a high school graduation trip to the uk. These trip guides are really helping me think more clearly and understand more about just how expensive things like trips to and from wealthy nations like the US and the UK can be. I am saving up four years in advance so I will have enough money for myself and any of my friends that would like to come with me. I also here recently learned that traveling from country to country in Europe is free! Thanks again nadine! Wish me luck!

here's a few things for spending less on cruises Look for restaurant special deals. Askonboard or keep an eye out for the occasional alternative restaurant deal to save money on a special meal. Do not over tip. Most cruise lines add to your cruise bill a service fee that covers your cabin steward and dining staff. Go on your own on shore trips. Cruise lines offer a variety of shore excursions in every port of call they visit but charge for them. Look for drink specials. If you don't drink enough to make a ackage pay, look for special discounts. Don't waste your wine! If you order a bottle of wine with dinner and can't finish it, ask your waiter to cork it and save it for you for another night. (I learned these and why they work from Arack Ship Tips website )

Um my family is low class and we are going to Europe for 3 weeks with 500 dollar round trip flights and then traveling inside of Europe costs like 500 more including flights and trains and hotels. all you need now is food. It is completely possible for about 1300 or less. That is per person of course.

1,300 USD is like 10,000 HKD, that is more than double my yearly disposable income and I am well paid by my country's standards, I would consider myself and my family middle class. But to be honest they are many cheap holidays to be had for less than 200 USD, her 3000 USD holiday was kind of crazy.

You really don't need 3000 dollars for a trip. Assuming your not buying premium tickets, are traveling alone, and don't plan on spending more than 2 weeks. A 1 week trip to Spain, round-trip flight, in March is around 400 to 500 dollars pre-ticket. A good hostel is around 17 to 20 dollars a night so 105 to 150 dollars for a week. In total were up to $650-ish and now take in to account food, transportation, smalls items, and luggage that's around $980 to $1,200 dollars needed. I work a $12/Hour job, Bi-weekly, setting aside $150 every paid check so within 4.5 months I have more than enough money for a wonderful trip to Spain. I hoped this help in some kind of way

I just want to let y’all know you don’t have travel via planes, train tickets are way cheaper! Also lots of cities have trams as public transport and free tram zones! You don’t have to travel internationally, there are lots of fun things to do in your own country only a few towns away! Also if you’re catching a train, try and get an overnight pass because then you save a night of accommodation!

I don’t know why everyone is mad at her, £58 a week is okay, especially while planning to travel. And this is probably for backpackers/ long term travelling then holidays or short trips. Obviously everyone has different living situation but she is aiming for backpackers, and if you can’t afford, it’s not her fault. You can get a second job, I met a girl that worked two jobs, hardly slept and saved enough money to travel. Ir you can’t afford it, you can work while traveling, either online jobs or seasonal jobs. Depending on how you get paid, you can weekly or monthly put more or less then 58/ 232 into your savings. Obviously if you are going on a holiday or a short trip, you need to save money and probably not that amount, depending on how you want to spend it. She’s just tying to help

Agree about the thing about "do you want to visit me in my country". You save a lot of money. But also it can be a risk if your friend suddenly change its mind due to some reasons ... so always have some spare money to also live on your own in a hotel or something like that if there is a problem. Happened to me when I wanted to go to Australia once again ... and then I found out about cheap campmobiles ... should have taken that chance. Another friend from Switzerland wanted to do that trip then with me when I already canceled my flight :-((((

Well if you're looking for a pre organised trip there are many sites online that you can look at but if you're looking to organise your own trip I would personally recommend Thailand. I'm not sure how expensive the flights will be but from Scotland (where I live) I got a pretty cheap return flight. Everything in Thailand is relatively cheap but the islands are a little more expensive (Speaking with the experience of a month in Thailand)

Honestly try to find someone to travel with so you can split accommodation costs. If not try staying in hostels, private rooms, couch surfing, etc. I’m going on a one week trip to curaçao and I could have done it for 1K CAD, but I do want to enjoy some luxury so it’s going to cost me about 1.3-1.5K CAD
@TheHikeChoseMe

yes, saving is key to travel. you can find cheaper flights if, IF, you want to make 3 stops and take 24 hrs to get where you are going. And, ha, adults dont sleep on couches, we use hotels or even airbnb. My wife and I went to London for two weeks. We traveled by train to other places, but our hotel was in London. we spent total with flight, hotel and other, about 8 thousand USD. For TWO people for two weeks. There is no way, you can travel to the UK for only 3000 dollars and spend any quality time there. the cheapest plane tickets you'll find are 1300 bucks. Hell, i went to yellowstone, solo for 5 days. i camped. it cost me nearly 1500 dollars, for rental car and flight, food etc. yellowstone, in the US

Its not a matter of how much I need, its a matter of how do you afford to travel all day, everyday of the year? Can you explain what you do to earn income (aside from RU-vid adsense revenue)?
@heynadine
@heynadine 10 лет назад
I don't and I can't afford to travel all day, everyday of the year. RU-vid is a misleading place, and it takes time to edit videos so i space them out and it looks like I am away for longer than normal. But I do travel alot, and that's cause I am at a lucky position now where I''m now able to get sponsors and partnerships with companies to get free travel. But even now I still do FULLY self-funded trips and I first started travel with no partnerships at all. So it's a mix. My income is a variety of freelance positions now to allow freedom to travel. It's taken alot of time to get to this position where I am in now.

it depends if you go couchsurfing, hostel, airbnb or hotel. The accommodation is the biggest money eater when traveling :) Couchsurfing is free and super fun so I always go for that! In Amsterdam you should try to get a bike to move around with, maybe you can find someone to rent it for you cheaply. For food I'd say 10€ per day is more than enough, again it depends on if you want to eat out or cook home. :)

very helpfull video nadine. and the costfull countries is also a problem for some people even living in norway. do not take a taxi or pay for gas in norway. if i remember right it is 2,5 us dollars per litre ( dont know how much that is in gallons) but that is alot for people from america and some places. best is either to have someone you know drive you and if they want to join in on the fun go half n half. or take a train and a bus ( even tho it is still alot) taxi is around (the big cities) 13-15 dollars start price for the first 4 kilometers and then it goes a dollar for around 100 ish meters and the waiting price is around 1-2 dollars per minute. yeah so don't do that! ( don't know if you know this but since the video where nadine was in norway the price went up more)

Michael Dowse indeed timing and planning is everything. i think the main reasons for the high rates on taxi is because 1: we tax the heck out of everything and 2: the price of gasoline ( oil. probably should have mentioned that better) however that is not to say to avoid norway. it has rich nature and plenty of sights to see and alot of culture ( also from the viking age and masses where they show how life was like in those times. you can buy bows and arrows and clothes and you can compete and you can even taste the food they ate that time) and plenty more. norway in winter might suprise you as well. skiing and ice skating is fun. however in winter time the weather can range from 5- to almost 30- celcius so dress smart ( there is no bad weather only bad clothing)

The exchange rate that she talked about and money isn't correct. Just because the currency is worth more doesn't mean that the cost of things will be proportionally more expensive. For example you get a mars bar in Scotland and it will cost you about £0.50 whereas in America its about $1. So therefor things will cost less of the currency. Not like your going to get a Mars bar in China for like 1 yen!

Hiya Nadine! Thank you for sharing your dedication and advice for creating and sustaining travel budgets! :) Would you consider making a video about your "rule of threes," especially the food you prepare yourself? As a fellow vegan, I often feel myopic about preparing food for myself while traveling or preparing for the day. I'd love to see your perspective on this. (And if you have already done this and I have not yet come across it, sorry for the redundancy!)

i would say for food take a cheap healthy canned food from your country and snacks with you so that you won't eat much in cousins or etc while traveling. Use cheap good quality hostels, don't mind to walk a lot and have a sporty shoes on. buy nothing but Food when needed or access tickets to needed places and just enjoy sights and places without paying money ;) enjoy nature for example and do hiking etc...

Maybe she should have indicated that most people with sustainable jobs that make efforts to generate money for travel can put away $58 per week. Of course if you don't work you won't be able to afford it. There are tons of ways, however, to generate extra money for travel. Along with working, you can sell your old things, do odd jobs for others, stop getting Starbucks and going out to eat numerous times per week. Also, $58 per week if to afford a $3000 trip in one year. If you were to cut that to a $2000 trip over the course of two years, it would only be $19 a week. Everyone can travel if you manage your money and make travel one of your priorities!

Hey just wanted to ask advice. I had amazing times when I went to Nepal and Morocco but they are places where you get hassled a lot/stared at and it kind of put me off going to places like that. I have only visited western countries since. Do you know which countries maybe hassle least? In 2 minds whether I want to stick to countries where this doesn't happen or just get over it and go to vietnam/china etc xx

Everyone can travel... if you can’t save $58 per week that’s okay, just save what you can, maybe $10 a week, or $30, etc.... it might take a bit longer but you can still travel! Not just for middle class!!!

Mmm, this is great advice for the lower middle class and above, but I kind of had a visceral reaction to the "everybody can cut $58 a week out of their budget." That's just not true. My best friend making $13/hr with a small baby and grandparents to take care of very much needs every last penny. I just think we shouldn't forget that, at its heart, traveling is a privileged activity.

Thanks for the video Nadine :). A week ago I was thinking into making a Euro trip for like 6 countries at least, making my first stop in Germany where I got a couple of friends. I have never been in Europe, and I'm from Panama (we use US dollars). I guess that my budget will need to be a little bit more than $3k. Which me luck :D

Thanks again this is great! In order to research low cost carrier/buses/trains that would mean via internet correct? Is there any good websites in this realm that get right to the point for Western Europe travel? Also, how do I look more into an Around the World ticket? I'm wondering if it would be worth it for destinations in Europe due to the Euro Rail being in plausible equal or better comparison price wise.

I can't cut 58$ a week O.o Maybe I can do that per month, but you know I'm a trainee and earn almost nothing but I have to pay everything. At the end, I have about 300$ a month for food, fun and saving. How the fuck am I supposed to cut 58$ a week? :(

save in smaller amounts like instead of 58$ do 48$ or something smaller, it will take more time but you can do it.:)
