Hey Nadine, how do you get selected for the contiki tour? And do they pay you or give you the camera equipment you use to film your adventures across the world?

Can you tell us about how much money you spend per week while traveling?
@usroadtripper
@usroadtripper 8 лет назад
The point of a money belt is not to constantly be in and out of it like a wallet. It is for deep storage of cash/cards/passports so no one will know that you have it. When I was in Europe, I started out the trip with almost €2000 in cash. Each day, I would take about €60 and put it in my purse for the day. If I started to run out of money, I could go to the bathroom and get more out of the money belt. Where else would I have put that much cash? In a purse or backpack that could be snatched? In a wallet that could be pick pocketed? I will never travel abroad without my money belt!

You can never look or act like a local, at least not in the time-spans we're talking about here. Even if you're from a country where you physically look almost exactly the same, you stick out. That's reality. All you can do is simply look like more of a local than the next guy. Or otherwise present yourself as being more trouble to bother with than someone else. Or more trouble to bother with than you're worth. But, you'll still stand out, don't worry about that.
@erik111erik
@erik111erik 8 лет назад
+redfish337 Not necessarily. In countries where I physically look like locals (even if I am not) I have been approached quite some times by other tourists asking the way or locals who thought I was one of them. I might have helped I was on my own and was not carrying a large backpack though. :).
@redfish337
@redfish337 8 лет назад
Yeah, not necessarily to everyone, but almost certainly to someone. As I said, all you can do is look like more of a local than the next guy. That's putting the effort in, and should dissuade most people. But the "JOB" of a pickpocket is to pick out marks. As they'll be giving you a good look over first do you think you're going to fool them? I really don't think so. In a which of these is not like the other setup, you'll get picked more often than not, and the longer they get to observe you, the better their odds. But if you're pretty close,, you may be able to slip through the crowd without arousing attention in the first place, and again, someone who is closer to the real deal is going to show more savvy of the culture, and therefore will likely be a harder mark. They're also more likely to be expats, and therefore a less valuable target than a tourist who likely has a lot of money on hand.
@erik111erik
@erik111erik 8 лет назад
You certainly have some good points there. :) But still, knowing how to blend in will make the chance you are picked out a lot smaller.

This ep was a really nice end cap to the series, Nadine. You put a lot of your real personality in to your comments, so it was very personable. My voice instructor always used to say; people remember the beginning and the end most of all ^_^

I appreciate all the advices given in this series - some new ideas to consider for future trips. Thank you, Nadine! Though, I do not agree that it is safer to wear your bag across your body - yes, it is harder for someone to grab the bag, but it is so much easier for another person to get you down on the ground. Instead, I believe, the safest way is to wear the bag on shoulder and hold the bag (on its strap, or keep your hand on the bag).

True that about thieves. I had a friend who had her wallet taken out of her purse while she was dancing last week. When I go out my money and cards go in my bra, and when I take my phone with me it goes in my waistband. Sometimes I don't even take a phone, because my place is in walking distance and also because my phone doesn't even work here. Long story short: good tips.

I like money belts to store extra back up cash and keep the cash I plan to use in the day in small wallet in the inner pocket of my jacket. In terms of safety, I found countries like Japan, Korea and Singapore to be really safe with hardly any theft or scams

Great tips Nadine. For added protection when eating in countries where the water quality is questionable, vaccinate yourself with Twinrix for Hepatitis and Dukoral for stomach bugs.

I put a cork board behind the world map on my wall so i could pin the places i've been to, it always me to see where I haven't been to and plan my next trip, you can buy simple flat corkboards that come with mounting tape

That was really good advice from an experienced traveler. Having said that, you have been caught out badly on one occasion, so I think you should have stressed the importance of good insurance. I know it's easily done because I got mugged in Amsterdam due to making one mistake that I should have known better, that is never carry a wallet. Fortunately it was only $10 because I knew not to carry more money than you need. I would love a video of the bad things that happened to you, and I think there were a few, but I understand that you might not want to do that. The great thing about you is that you don't let anything deter you from your ambition to travel the world, and kudos to you for that.

When i was on a road trip we stopped in New Mexico and stayed at a very cheap motel like $60 a night, there was a bullet hole in our door, hairs in our bed, and illegal things going on at the business across from it. So we decided not to stay anywhere under $70😁

Some seriously good advice. However I disagree about money belts, kind of. I prefer the pouch that hangs around your neck. And, I only take it out when I'm transferring money and only in doors. like in a rest room. I still think it's the safest way. Now money belts are awful. Mostly because they aren't comfortable and they make you sweat. Not to mention they are obvious to pick pockets.

I use a money belt and a wallet. My money belt is for my passport, credit card and debit card and 200$ emergency currency. My wallet is for my daily expenses. It contains max 50 euros in the local currency.

Unless you aren't staying in a hotel. When I toured around Ireland I just stayed at B&B's for the night. So I kept my passport ( and some larger bills ) in a money belt. Otherwise I never touched the darned thing. I kept all the daily money in my wallet.

Cute video. Any chance you'd get rid of the Black racist ad? Specific places in stores are delegated for special needs, like black hair. Instead of seeing it as a nice thing, because it is giving them a place only for them, the company has chosen to make it seem wrong. Typical Obama racism is now even in advertising.
@JasmineShao

I don't think she has control over which ads are shown, you could try contacting the company or RU-vid.
