Subscribe to watch Mike finish this TREMEC TKO installation into his 1969 Pontiac GTO Restomod, in his home garage! If he can do this at home, so can you! "TREMEC TKO or TKX or T56 Install, Part 9b: How to install a hydraulic throw out bearing aka "Slave Cylinder". can be applied to all TREMEC installs. In this episode, we need to locate and install the slave cylinder, which we frankly need to re-name to something else... like Student, or Kid. The term "slave cylinder" has got to go!

One tip about bleeding the hydraulic clutch is this....: After you hook up the line and the master you fill the master 1/2 way with dot 4 then while under the car you slowly compress the bearing and the hydraulic clutch until you bottom out then there will still about an extra 1/2" of travel in there and thats whare it gets messy if you dont put the cap on loosely but the last 1/2" really powerblasts the air out through the master enough to where you will have to refill the reservoir to 1/2 way again and once the air is out doing this 2-3 times the fluid pressure on the hydraulic bearing stays locked back to make it like it was before adding fluid using the spring to hold the bearing out until you install the trans and push the pedal. I guarantee if you do it my way bleeding becomes a pinch me moment as the hydraulic clutch works instantly...Take care.

Just to confirm, the McLeod clutch came with a couple extra parts. One is a bearing and the other is like a spacer. This is a throw out bearing and maybe a pilot spacer?...that is replaced with the hydraulic green accordion looking thing? "I have NO idea what I'm doing" 😊

@FastMonty

That's a fantastic question. I'm pretty sure there's also a pilot diameter that matches the throw out bearing. Regardless, I would ask the manufacturer of the throw out bearing you're buying to find out if it needs an anti-rotate bar, AND/OR if you can just add it to your current retainer. Let us know!

Just curious, why don't you just leave the bell housing on the trans and put the entire trans/bell housing on the motor, that way the hydraulic throwout bearing isn't bouncing around? I am putting my kit together so I'm curious if my way is wrong for some reason.
@FastMonty
@FastMonty Год назад
Good question, not sure what car you have... but on mine, I don't have the lateral room to move the entire bell house the length of the input shaft to get it into the clutch. (It would hit the tunnel) So, the bell has to go on first, then the transmission. Hope that helps.

@timmay0330

Why would you not leave the bell housing attached to the trans? Seems kinda backwards. Not saying your wrong. Just curious
@FastMonty
@FastMonty 2 года назад
At what point? Measuring the throw out bearing? Or, installing it to the engine? If you're referring to installing it on the engine, you don't have enough room inside the tunnel, to have a direct shot at inserting the input shaft through the clutch, and into the pilot bearing. It's about 8" of throw, where the tunnel might allow you to move it 1". It's impossible. :)

What do i do if it to tight with no spacers yet?
@FastMonty
@FastMonty 3 года назад
Great point, Thordan. I probably didn't mention that. For those curious, if you didn't have enough space when the throw out bearing is fully collapsed, you need to add a spacer between the transmission and bell housing. Reason is you'll need around .200" of play to accommodate for disc wear, because the fingers on the pressure plate start to extend, closer to the throw out bearing. If you don't have enough space, the pressure plate will not fully apply pressure on the disc, and you'll start prematurely slipping. So, contact Silver Sport Transmissions (www.shiftsst.com) and ask for a transmission spacer for your vehicle. They're typically .250" thickness, and around $60. Hope that helps! And, thanks for the comment!

How are you going the bolt down the slave cylinder on the front of the trans? This makes no sense the way you are going about this.
@FastMonty
@FastMonty Год назад
Well, that's because it doesn't. It's meant to "float" in between the trans and pressure plate. Hope that makes sense, let me know, if not. And, yes, this is exactly how you install this system. Works awesome. Thanks
@mechardable
@mechardable Год назад
@@FastMonty i just watched a few videos because I need to replace slave cylinder on 2000 SS and all other videos show bolting it to the front of the trans, your trans has the bolt holes but you are not using them. You would not want your throw out bearing touching the fingers of the pressure plate all the time it not made to do this much wear and tear. Even in my old big block 69 you have a spring that keeps the throw out from touching the pressure plate fingers unless your are using the clutch. Maybe you should check with silver state.
@FastMonty
@FastMonty Год назад
@mechardable I hear you... a 2000 SS does not have a Temec TKO/TKX does it? Point is, not all throwout bearings install the same way. In this case, the throwout bearing does NOT bolt to the transmission and DOES ride on the pressure plate fingers at ALL times. That's the way it was designed. My video is accurate because I had Silver Sport comment on it BEFORE I posted it. They use it now as their install video. So, definitely find a video that's applicable to your make and model car and transmission. Good Luck!
