Welcome to this much requested video show casing the little Tri-ang Dock Authority diesel shunter.
Probably one of Tri-ang’s best selling locomotives.
This is a long detailed video but hopefully it will be relaxing and interesting.
These little 0-4-0 shunters have a big following, this one arrived with me from Australia back in 2007.
While he has his original wheels they are the smooth kind, but the flanges as deep and thick so she stumbles sometimes on my standard Hornby and Peco track, however she is capable of very slow and controlled running such that I don’t want to do anything to her.
Sit back now and enjoy some old world shunting using mostly venerable models from the now distant past.

What a great , informative and relaxing way to spend sixteen minutes and thirty two seconds . Watching your videos beats most of the crap on telly which i rarely switch on and most other model railway video channels on youtube . I also like not only your camera work but also the added sound effects on the soundtrack . Cheers again and thanks for sharing ! 🙂🙂

I agree, no raucous music, sound effects just right, not over narrated either. The modelling is reminiscent of mine back in the 1970’s, when I was a skint schoolboy, relying on Christmas gifts, shovelling coal for neighbours, and repairing bicycles for money. The Dock shunter was my first running loco, prior to that is was a static Airfix schools class, then my brother bought a mail order Britannia set, then my parents bought me a mainliner J72 set when they appeared. I’d love to recreate this kind of model railway, rather than the intense, focus on detail.

Its amazing how many people would regard these models as junk now days. What a fun sequence and proving that there is still life in these old toys. Great to see such a positive reaction in the comments as well. Seems to be a bit of a cult model and one I only found out about a few years ago!

Loved the dock shunter. My wife, Janet, loves the Jinty. I enjoyed the shunting moves in the yard. Reminds me of my teenage years, mid 1960s to early 1970s watching shunting at the Santa Fe freight yards in Bakersfield, Ca. I love your sound recordings. Bill and Janet from California

I can't believe how smoothly you've got your 50 year old dock shunter to run. My little brother had one - his first engine - and it was a rough growler right from the start and never improved despite lots of running in. It put me off Triang diesels for life!
@ModelRailwaysUnlimited

Thanks very much indeed, sorry to hear about your brothers one, did it have knurled wheels maybe?
@richardhiggins6471
@richardhiggins6471 2 месяца назад
@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited It had the smooth wheels, but looking back now, there must have been an issue with the motor or gears not meshing correctly. I'm pretty sure we flooded the bearings with 3 in 1 to try to improve it, but it was never a good runner. As an adult I would have taken it straight back to the shop, but we were just kids and didn't know any better at the time.

Very nice. Perhaps you might like to add something scary to your rolling stock collection. I've bought a Royal Ordnance Gunpowder Van of Rapido status, from Rails of Sheffield in the pre-owned section. I dare you to buy one if you're brave enough, just make sure you don't couple it up directly behind a steam engine. Trust me, one wrong move and you'll be on the receiving end of a loud explosion.

Another enjoyable running session with some lovely story telling. Thank you. The Dock Shunter runs really well. When regional wagons got mixed up and out of area who controlled their return?
@ModelRailwaysUnlimited
@ModelRailwaysUnlimited 3 месяца назад
Thanks Neil, well wagons usually had a "return to" notice on them, yard supervisors would send them on the next available goods train or if there were lots they'd be made into a train. Lots of complications of course, rented wagons out of season, cripples and some that were just lost lol.
