The hoop represents the never-ending circle of life. The Hoop Dance is performed by a solo dancer, who begins with a single hoop which represents the circle of life. As the dancer continues, he or she continues to add additional hoops which represent other elements such as humans, animals, wind, water, and seasons.

Grandma, you are right to say heartbeat. The drum of our songs represent the heartbeat of our mother Earth. We call the Earth, our mother because she gives birth to all things on this world along with our father Sky or Thunderbird. We have many similarities in our cultures.

In the USA the tribes have what we call Pow Wows. One or more tribes gather together to dance, eat, sell goods, share their cultures, and have a good time. Some are open to the public. The variety of their regalia, traditional clothing, is amazing.

I looked up Cody Boettner to see what tribe he belonged to. Amazing skill!---I enjoyed watching the faces of the viewers as the dance was on!

Take theseb2 to a Pow Wow and get them some frybread! Or, let them TRY a good fry bread! Simple recipe, 3 cups of flour, 2 tablespoons of baking powder, 1 tablespoon of salt! Deep fry it in 8" rounds. But, I'm not sure it would taste the same without the fresh air, and the drum thunder close enough to feel the vibration in your chest...

I used to enjoy Fry Bread four times a year: The Buckskinners Encampment in Hartford, Wisconsin, where the guy was a master at it, I 'd have two during our visit, first with ham and shredded cheese early in the day, and then with butter, cinnamon and sugar before we left; next was Indian Summer Festival on the shores of Lake Michigan in September in Milwaukee and my lunch or dinner was always turkey & gravy over Fry Bread which was scrumptious; then the New Year's Eve PowWow, and I usually just enjoyed more butter, cinnamon and sugar on Fry Bread; and finally, the Winter Powwow in West Allis, Wisconsin in March (yes, easily still winter!) and they offered the turkey & gravy, the Prairie Dog on Fry Bread (Wisconsin sausage), bison burger on Fry Bread, and butter, cinnamon and sugar. Sadly, the Buckskinners Encampment is the only thing that still goes on in southeast Wisconsin. A real loss for all Wisconsinites but mostly our Native American community. Sure do miss it all. Indian Summer Festival we would go all three days. Just breaks my heart it's all in the past now. Wonderful memories. I took a screen shot of your Fry Bread directions. Maybe someday I'll be brave enough to try it on my own. 😊
