Trout Fishing Derby - Hot Bite at Lake Cahuilla CA 

What’s up! Started out with powerboat and has slight success. At the time my neighbors were using night crawlers and mice tails with great bite/catch ratio. I switched to night crawlers but actually had less action… lastly I tried mice tails and it was a night and day difference. Just goes to show that you have to be willing to adjust your strategy when you are out on the water. Tight lines! 🤘🏾

Hey Emmanuel, the ball is a bumble strike bobber, but you can use a regular bobber (red and white traditional one) the idea is that when a fish bumps your bait, it causes your bobber to bounce and alerts you of a coming bite. That’s why they are known as strike indicators. For YEARS, I just used a regular bobber with a hook clipped on to my line (barb-less). If you need more of a description of this let me know and I can expand. I would suggest stepping down your line if possible. A quick fix would be to make your leader a 4lb test leader… 2lb test if you feel comfortable fighting a lighter line and can set your drag properly so the fish does not break off on you. I would suggest mice tails, not because that’s my go to … but because that was working very well this past weekend. My go to is typically power bait on a Carolina rig (suggestion - use a smaller treble hook ) and before you cast make sure it floats. The floating past is a MUST!!!! These are little tips and tricks I learned over the years that have honestly changed my hook up and landing ratio. Hope this helps. @@emmanuelromo4869 because I was doing things on the fly, I simply hooked it on to my treble hook I was already using. But you may have success with a slender mosquito hook or a bait hook.
