You're back! I've missed your creative and in depth videos so much! Love your unique approach when it comes to styling and how you incorporate modern takes on style principles without being overly restrictive. Like many, I've struggled with combining all of the kibbe/kitchener/color season principles and this video really helps taking a step back to reevaluate what truly brings me joy and confidence when curating my wardrobe. There is no fun in subscribing to strict ''laws'' of styling if they don't reflect our individual personality traits and aesthetic inspirations. Adding that extra sprinkle of originality makes all the difference! Thanks again for taking the time to produce such entertaining and insightful videos! :D

This means so much to me, and is exactly what I hoped to accomplish when making this video. Style systems are fantastic building blocks, but I think true satisfaction in style comes from merging those concepts with our unique point of view and things that truly excite us visually. Thank you for leaving such a meaningful comment, it made my day!

Gaby, thank you so much for this video! I am exactly at phase 1, feeling stuck, cause my life has had so many recent changes thay now I feel so lost when it comes to my style! I have a Kibbe + color consultation soon and I believe that will help me start moving towards my new style. Your video reminded me that regardless of what my future style looks like, my essence and inspiration sources haven't changed, only the message that I want to communicate has. Thanks again, I'm looking forward to your next video!

I have a Pinterest board called ‘Aura dump’ where I pin every single picture that calls me. Then, now and then I download a few of those pictures and make a video with a song that really resonates with me currently, sometimes I feel like my outfits don’t exactly resonate that, but my soul does and it just…shows!

A video on tips for integrating various essense blends would be amazing! For example I'm gamine, natural, romantic and not sure where to start in learning how to express that in outfits/wardrobe.
@Theprincessinyellow
@Theprincessinyellow 4 месяца назад
For some reason the therapeutic part of this really pulls to me, not because I haven't done inner work but because I think there have been parts of my lived experience that are directly about style and get in the way of authenticity. I was once working with a coach who told me how adorable I look in a positive way and then all of her advice was to give me black, white, and brown solid office wear outfits because I "was dressing younger than my age" (I was 24) and to look more sophisticated to achieve my goals. I didn't realize it then but it had an effect on me that maybe looking youthful made me look silly even if it made me happy and is a dominant part of my essence blend.

Weird fashion revelations I’ve had in the past month just from vibing: - a waist belt changed my life. It makes anything look good. It’s magic. It makes my fits look more intentional + distracts from my lumpy lumps without needing to hide. - Most of my closet doesn’t match my mousy hair color. I like changing my hair so i’m going to dye it a deeper color as it would fit all the colors i like. Rip blonde hair, i only kept you because you seemed unachievable and i am toxic like that. Also family pressure. - I bought a pair of pants, immediately tried to style it with my closet at home, noticed it was difficult and the cut made me look off. Returned it and invested in ones with flare instead. Much more confident they will be worn. - i regret not getting a slightly long curtain bang earlier. Frames my face, and my hair is at an awkward length so it needed a distraction. - toning your hair at home (not just a purple shampoo and not a box dye that lasts for months) = the superior option. It’s very mild so you learn as you go how much you need/when, and also super easily removed. I’m enjoying it a lot. - idfc if hair on the darker side might make me look pale, never been into tanning, i am naturally very pale, why am i listening to advice i don’t care about? 😎 I’ve just been watching videos, getting stressed and obsessed, but as soon as i just relaxed i listened to myself qnd respected who i saw. Not using any video as perscriptive, like you noted, just as inspiration or «fun facts»!

I am so glad I found your channel and your content. You don't only give out info, you also give so many examples (especially on putting together entire outfits). I really feel like these are all tools and it's up to me which ones I want to incorporate or not in my own style. My work is research so this approach really speaks to me! I also like how you touched on how exploring style can feel scary or uncomfortable and that it's okay to try on clothes and style just by myself, for myself. Thank you so much!

*What's In My Closet* . Your "DEEP DIVES" are always inspirational. It's finally Autumn in Upstate NY and that is where my soft-natural shines. After watching this, I had to do a quick review of my saved outfit inspo on Pinterest. My color palette and pattern choices haven't changed in two years. They suit "authentic" me. I'll be doing a closet edit, and plan on hanging some outfit combos together. I wear a uniform for work, but I love the idea of having a go to outfit at the ready for days off. I do thrift 90% of my clothing, a thoughtful edit is due. I'm not looking for space to add more, just a concise evaluation. I've experienced that "confidence" boost when I'm wearing that outfit/color combo that suits *ME* . From necklines to hemlines and footwear, your content has upped my style game and I'm grateful. 💎

Gaby i just want to say that i love YOUR personal style! i love you getting more into these chic moody colors (this blue is soooo stunning both on you and in general) and i feel like you've really come a long way to honing your own style. When you show off your outfit photos at the start (the "from here [instagram photo] to here [current outfits]" the outfit are all bangers,and i especially love that collared dress on the far left on you. it conveys so many different things, it's both chic and relaxed (and it makes you look so tall haha). i've been clamoring for a style map video so i'm excited to get a cup of tea and watch this but i just wanted to say that first.

Another gem of a video, thanks for all the work and insight you put into these. We are so bombarded with input and pressures on a daily basis that we stopped looking at ourselves, so we try to fit into an expectation or an aesthetic. Besides it takes effort to look inside, not just intellectually but also emotionally. Often it's easier to keep chasing a dream and tricking ourselves that we got it covered, than to actually put the work into working with what we have and finding out who we are. What you said about comparison being the thief of joy and the loss of identity reminds me of this wonderful quote by Kurt Cobain "trying to be someone else is a waste of the person you are".
@Gabriellearrudadesign

I loved what you said at the end about being an individual. I see so many copycats in today's world, it's truly boring. It takes all the fun out of making choices and self-expression. Individuality is paramount. And although you are very creative and quirky I see a "serious" side to you, later on in life you'll make a great Professor, but as for now, I think your contribution as a Fashion Designer is key.

Thank you so much, Gabrielle, I adore how you make everything clear and working)) Watching this video I had an idea what you're building in your personal style. It's like Lady Godiva approximately. Sensual but daring and strong; relatively simple ladylike of the Early Middle Ages; long but practical dresses with equestrian boots (they are not equestrian really but I imagine it). Legendary Godiva also had very long hair but for you side volume looks more preferable. Sorry if that sounds imprudent (who asked me?!) but your videos help me and I wish to give some positive feedback))

I love how intentional this approach is. I worked on this a bit when you first introduced it (the intro was very fitting because my history section had a lot of Star Wars costuming on it). I've started doing boards of images that speak to me in two-month chunks, not limited to personal style. It's been really interesting and definitely shows that containing multitudes aspect of style.

Thank you so much for your videos ! As already said it is just precious content. I really love your style map theory and since the first video I already make several of them. I encounter a few obstacles make them : one I can’t seem to synthesize all my ideas and I have to much pictures so I tend to get lost in my board. Second, when I finally manage to resume to 15-20 photos, there isn’t much fashion related content. Which by itself isn’t much of a problem but I don’t know how to create an outfit from it after. Third, when I have a smallish amount of photos that can be more easily made into outfit, I feel like I need to buy clothes because I don’t have the item to do the outfit 😅 But I will not end this quest, and I will finally manage to have a personal functional board of my style ! I also recently started your workbook, but I go through it much slower than I thought I would. I already think it help me to see things I didn’t get before. Also I think I still struggle quite a lot by the fit of the clothes so I can’t get to the next steps. Closet editing seems like a really good idea for the future videos, I would like one on the essence too
@Gabriellearrudadesign
@Gabriellearrudadesign 10 месяцев назад
So I think you should join my free facebook group (if you haven't already). You can see how people's outfits can be translated from boards in a unique way. I don't think the personal style maps need to have fashion content. It's more about the vibe and thought process of the board and trying to match that kind of energy into your looks. And if you're struggling to create just one board, maybe try 2 and then explore outfits (the try on experience) for both boards and see how you can create them moving forward and which elements of your boards you're inspired by frequently. Also you need to think about why you're putting an image on your board and what it means to you. I have music notes on my board but that doens't mean I'm buying a piano necktie, but to me it's a movement and melody/harmony I like to feel in my clothes. These boards end up being very personal in what they mean and how you use them. If you feel the need to buy new pieces then I would pause and start with the workbook evaluations first. Start with those outfits that you're wearing and the common threads. And then from there see how it can be applied to the map. The map isn't until the middle of the workbook anyway so just tackle what is working and slowly evaluate your map. Not every image or question in the maps process will fit for every individual as well. Hope this helps! (And don't worry the workbook is usually a slow process, it took me awhile to get all my answers down too, it's not meant to be an overnight thing!)

I always enjoy the pure pragmatism of your videos and advice, how functional and actionable it is. It is really interesting to examine the relationship between our personal style and our mental health. I feel like a reluctance to examine who i was in the past when i was being traumatized and my depression languor combine to make finding my style history and cleaning my closet out really difficult, to say nothing about the execution portion of personal style. I feel like i accumulate a lot of information but when it comes to acting on it i don't feel like i have the energy to really apply that information. If you do a closet audit video i would appreciate some advice for half-assing it for those of us who don't have easy access to a place to donate clothes or the time/energy to lay everything out Marie Kondo style. I love her advice but the time i tried to do it i lose all my physical energy halfway through and everything i had just taken out of storage just lived out in the open for the next 6 months (!!!). no pressure though! i appreciate all your videos. Re: essence video i would love a video with some concrete examples of how to figure out your essences as recommended in your other videos - like do you start at the shoes, furthest from your face, and work your way to jewelry? I personally think i only have like one and a quarter essences but i might be doing the exercise incorrectly.

Thank you so much! And Yes, I think this is a great idea. Starting huge projects is not always feasible and when they take forever we end up abandoning them. I will try to include a whole section on "half-assing" it (haha) or doing it in small stages (like one easy task a day instead of pulling everything out). And the essence video sounds interesting too. I appreciate all the suggestions!

Maybe essence blends! I am classic, romantic, and dramatic and would love to hear your take on something like that. Also thanks for this video! I was so sad to mourn the loss of my fiery ginger hair as it was so fun for me and now I feel bland with my natural dark hair and I’m finding that I’m discontent with my wardrobe because of it. Hair really does have a huge impact on how I style myself, as odd as it seems.

Gabrielle, I have always been creative and into style and design, and like a lot of us have had hits and misses but never really found my personal style and have struggled with knowing myself and dressing myself. After falling pregnant 2 yrs ago (going up 5 dress sizes) and becoming a first time Mum to my beautiful son then going back down 3 sizes, I have since completely lost my sense of self and my wardrobe has been a confused reflection of that. I knew I needed a change and some help, with so much information out there I was feeling overwhelmed. I discovered Kibbe, colour seasons and few other different style concepts a few years back, over consumed too much information and watched too many RU-vidrs searching for one source that encapsulated everything I already knew I wanted to learn more about, things I didn’t know anything about and more, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was looking for but I knew I would know it when I found it. I started to think what I was looking for just didn’t exist, that was until I found you! All that to say that I think you are so truely brilliant, I can’t thank you enough for existing, the way you structure your information, the way you speak, teach, explain, no shade to others but the thought and detail that goes into all your videos makes every other personal style RU-vidr I’ve ever watched look basic, unenlightened and lazy compared to you, I love your unpretentious demeanour, even with the rich and detailed information you give us in your videos I can tell you know way more than you speak on and the way you subtly break it down in layman’s for us in the most gracious way, mostly I love your attitude toward style in general, honouring freedom and creativity, the way it should be.

I can't tell you how much this comment means to me and how grateful I am that the information has resonated with you. I totally understand the post-pregnancy style hole and then all the overconsumption of style systems that can just lead to analysis paralysis ( I've experienced both personally and boy can it damper one's style enthusiasm!). But, knowing that this helped you make sense of your own style pieces and begin to connect the dots in your personal style expression makes me want to keep making videos. It really gives me purpose, and I'm so grateful you shared it with me!!

@elisa4620 10 месяцев назад
Hello :) Your intro was as fun and surprising as the previous ones XD My comment is long. I hope you don't mind 😅 The learning circle you presented is more or less how I (self)learn everything. So yeah, very true (at least for me). And yeah, just like we are multi-faceted, we likely have more than one style. For the next video I vote for : Clothet auditing. If I may make suggestions, I think a series of videos helping us to critically analyze pieces of clothing so we know if they are going to work for us would be useful for everyone. It would be useful to closet auditing, to shop our closet and when purchasing something new : * Essences : maybe how to critically analyze (real life) pièces of clothing and assess their essences/vibes of so we could more easily know how to incorporate them into our outfits (or know why they aren't working for us) *Body Type/Lines: Learning to critically look at clothes and all of their details (lines, cuts/silhouette, fabric, design details, etc...) to see if they would work or not on our body (or more like, how their lines, fabric and details would affect their visual effect on our bodies) something like that *How To : It would be interesting to take some popular items and see how to find some version that would accommodate our body lines. Like, totally just for exemple : "puffy" sleeves tops&dresses, wide legs pants, leggins/jeggins, slip dresses/skirts, blazers, dusters, kimono vests, etc.... AND maybe also ways to wear them in an outfit that would work in harmony with our IDs/essences. * Likewise, why not something about some fashion styles (boho, grunge, smart casual, athleisure, classic, preppy,...) and how to make them work for different IDs? Maybe even for different events (off day, work, date/party). That would probably help people who don't want to go by stereotypes. :) * Something about how to accessories an outfit so it could incorporate the right amount of something else (like another essence) and/or harmonize with the rest of the outfit. Or clash with it, depending on what one would be going for. I never know how to incorporate jewelry (is it too much? Not enough? Does it goes well with the rest? Is the overall result what I was going for?). PS: would you recommend the book Flow to help for other purposes than fashion style (like creative hobbies)? It seems like an interesting and useful book. Or did you quote the only good part? I'm on a very tight budget so I have to spend every euro mindfully.
@Gabriellearrudadesign
@Gabriellearrudadesign 10 месяцев назад
Thank you for such a thoughtful comment! I think I could definitely incorporate a lot of these ideas in future videos, but I won't be doing any Kibbe-specific videos so it would need to be more generalized. But I appreciate you writing all these ideas out. And I would say the book of Flow is great, but if you're on a tight budget I wouldn't say it's a must buy. The concept is fantastic, but it's a bit of a slow read imo. I'd get it from the library if you're intrigued by it.

@@Gabriellearrudadesign You're welcome. :) Thank you for considering these suggestions. I though/hoped you might be interested and even have fun with these concepts. And of course! Make it your own. It doesn't have to he Kibbe to consider body lines and how clothes and fabric falls on it :) Thank you for your advice on this book. I'll probably do that.
